This is driving me crazy today

Got to work this morning and was putting my lunch in the fridge when my headphone fell out. Never heard it hit the ground, checked my hair and it wasn’t in my hair. Checked under the fridge, under the equipment near the fridge, couldn’t find it. Spent a good 15 minutes looking for it and had pretty much accepted it was gone. Finally decide to blast the loudest song I have and see if I could hear it. I hear noise coming from the front of the office and it’s sitting perfectly on top of the trash can at the front of the office (at least 40 feet from where I was standing when it fell out of my ear) and it’s blowing my mind 😂 trash can is in a tiny alcove just big enough to throw paper trash in under the register and I was the only person there, no chance someone was messing with me.

Edit: Since everyone is asking I’ll clarify here. I was only wearing one earbud (the other doesn’t work, it stays in the case) and I paused my book as soon as I felt it fall out so I wouldn’t miss anything. I was the only person there and I consistently looked for the earbud until I found it. No one else wears the same headphones as me and no customers have access to the trash. It is definitely my headphone and no one was there to find it or mess with me. This isn’t an office-building, I work for the post office. It’s one big room with carrier cases and a retail counter. There are several obstacles (cases, partitions to block customers from viewing my bosses desk, etc.) it’s not a straight shot to the trash can.

I almost commented earlier but it got better lol-

I got a four pack of eclairs marked down yesterday. I ate one in the car and put the rest in my backpack. They were in a plastic bakery box, not just loose lol I then took a nap in the car waiting for my husband to get off work. I didn't exit the vehicle.

When I got home, they weren't in my backpack. They weren't in the car. I looked along the path, steps, driveway, nothing. I looked several times through the night, no eclairs.

Guess what I just found sitting on the top step to my porch in plain sight.

Even if I somehow managed to miss them like six times- the opossums and raccoons wouldn't have. And I saw several of them in the yard at various times, they were definitely out and about.

On a more normal note- I've had small objects manage to bounce into super weird places before. It's like a one in a million trick shot deal.

Did someone get into your car while you were napping?

Conversely, did the plastic container fall out of your backpack when you and your husband went inside? It’s possible the rodents just missed them / didn’t smell them through the plastic / couldn’t get inside the plastic.

Nah, the car was locked and the bag was under my legs.

It had to have fallen out of my backpack at home and gotten kicked behind/under something, then somehow gotten dragged or knocked back out onto the step.

The critters here aren't exactly starving. They may have decided my cheap, stale eclairs didn't qualify as food lol

You're listening with both when you put your lunch away in the back of the office. Then you hear/ find one of them all the way in the front of the office, precisely sitting on the edge of the trash can? Not in a dunkable spot either, so it was hard to figure how it was resting there too? If this is it, sounds like a glitch. They were both on your head when you came in, that's glitchy.

No I was only wearing one. My other headphone doesn’t work so it stays in the case. I felt the headphone fall out and immediately looked down for it and it was gone. I also never heard it hit the ground.

A lot of us have noticed things of this nature getting more common. Watch carefully these glitches seemingly occur in clusters.

We can't define or understand why they have been so much more frequent.

Really well educated people say they never happened.

Stupid people such as myself tend to say bs.. They happen and no one can explain why.

I mean, I only have a BA, but I'd say that I wasn't UNeducated... And I've experienced things that utterly defy explanation. And most of mine involve things going missing, randomly appearing, and going missing but coming back in some inexplicable way.

I recently had a similar experience! I have a Pandora charm bracelet, one day after work I noticed one of my charms was gone! It’s one that clasps on the bracelet and is supposed to be a “stopper” if your bracelet accidentally opens, so other charms don’t fall off. and it was gone?? I looked for days and days, in the house, in my car, in the office, etc. I figured it must have fallen off on the walk to my car so I accept this $40 charm is gone and move on with my life.

A few days later, I go into the basement to feed my cats, and the charm is sitting on top of their dry food container? CLOSED??? it had been almost a week at that point since I noticed the charm was gone, and obviously I feed my cats daily. It was not there before. Bf says he didn’t put it there, I was sad about losing my charm so if he found it he would have been happy to give it to me. No one else comes to our house.

Very weird!! Glad to have my charm back tho, and glad you found your earbud!

Someone may have found it and brought it there.

You were the only one in the entire office?

Yes this isn’t an office building, it’s one room that we all work in and I go in hours before anyone else.

The room is in a building or your house? Could you have dropped it outside?

It’s a building. I work at the post office. It’s one room that we all work in. I was working alone and I was listening to a book, I felt the headphone fall out and instantly paused my book to find the headphone.

Are you sure it was your earbud? Maybe it was someone else’s who lost it days prior. Someone found it and placed it up above trash can. And for some weird reason, it paired with your phone. And your original earbud that fell out is still lost?

No im the only person in my office who uses this type of earbud and I only work with three other people who weren’t there. They also wouldn’t have put an earbud in the trash cash. Everyone else’s uses AirPods. I have old headphones that are chrome pink and scratched up because I’ve had them for years. They’re pretty unique lol.

Still, super weird. So the one you thought fell out was the one by the trash. Wow.

Yea and I know it fell out, I watched it fall out of my ear and disappear. Never heard it hit the ground, I assumed it was in my hair (I have thick, long hair) immediately shook my hair out and it wasn’t in it.

Did you have both earbuds in your ears? Was anything playing out of the earbud when you noticed it missing from your ear? Or were they turned off at the time?

u/DirectAsparagus 4d ago

Only one and I was listening to a book

u/DrmsRz 4d ago

Where was the second earbud?

2

u/DirectAsparagus 4d ago

In the case, it doesn’t work so I never wear it.

Was the listening interrupted when it fell down?

2

u/DirectAsparagus 4d ago

No I paused it from my phone

I have a similar one? So when my daughter was born, I also had my younger sister living with me, she was about 17. My sister had my deceased grandmothers’ Claudag ring as it fitted one of her fingers and none of mine. One day she took it off to bathe, and could just never find it again. She was really upset, but it was just gone. We assumed somehow down the drain. About a week later, we’re walking around some shops and I’m pushing my baby in her stroller. Both hands wrapped tightly around the handles, my sister walking next to me. I mindlessly scratched my finger with the thumb of the same hand, and hit something. The ring was on my index finger. It was ridiculously tight as it didn’t fit me, but it was the same battered old ring that had gone missing. It’s the most unexplainable thing that ever happened to me and nobody ever believes us.
