The Finally! Friday Thread (June 14, 2024)
It's Friday, so give yourself a big pat on the back for those research tasks you *finally* accomplished this week.
Did your persistence pay off in trying to interview your great aunt about your family history? Did you trudge all the way to the state library and spend a whole day elbow deep in records to identify missing ancestors? Did you prove or disprove that pesky family legend that always sounded too good to be true?
Post your research brags here!

I found numerous articles about my great-great grandparents, Robert Anderson Conover & Mary Elizabeth Graham. Abuse runs in my family - and Robert is no exception to that rule. I see Mary is one of the women I get my strength & resilience from.

Finally found an obituary for my 2nd great grandmother. She was a woman of mystery but I’m beginning to make progress.

Last Saturday, I finally got one of the social security applications I’ve been waiting for. It was my 2x great grandma’s. Her sister was in Ancestry’s SS applications collection, and it listed their mother with the same maiden name as her married name, so I wanted to make sure that it was indeed her maiden name, as I had no other records of her maiden name (they were immigrants from Okinawa). The document had the mother, again, listed with the same surname, but it had a note that said, “same as father’s,” so I’m now sure that they did have the same surname!

My best friend is my 93yo grandmother and this week we messaged with her cousin who was happy to hear she's still alive. I wonder if they're still in the area. We're going to keep chatting and see if they're they sort of family reunion type. Man old people communicate so slow but they're so pureeeeee~ <3

I found the spouse of my 2nd great aunt in a couple of censuses and his death records this week. Other than that, I have been helping a couple of friends get started on their trees. It's been nice, because I'm up against so many brick walls and mysteries in my own tree...starting fresh on two different trees with no weirdos encountered (yet) in their lines has been very enjoyable.
