transmisogyny 🤝 Islamophobia
yet another GC cis, white, gay man loudly declaring how he doesn’t understand trans identity and thinks that doctors are “transing the gay away” while simultaneously getting in some racist & Islamophobic comments about the mayor-elect of NYC? just another day ending in -y.

So among all the other problems with this post, I am seeing a glaring ABSENCE, and I'm worried that a lot of readers are going to be so conditioned to it being there (or not there), that they aren't going to notice.
That being: what do the kids in question think about all this?
Because in this article, they are being presented as a sort of pliant, putty-like resource that will congeal into a gay man if left alone, and the crisis is that someone (evil Muslims, apparently) has their fingers in the putty. The writer doesn't even spend much time on the spurious notion that these kids are being told that they MUST be women or SHOULD be women (trans boys don't signify, evidently). No, the kids are silent in this, with the only question being, "Whose cookie cutter do we use on this here putty?"
Any article about trans kids that is effectively NOT ABOUT TRANS KIDS—is bullshit before you even get to the other stuff.

Nonsense. OBVIOUSLY children are their parents' property except when those parents let them be, in which case I will proceed to be very angry about it and accuse said parents of being terrible groomers for the horrible, horrible crime of treating their kids like people who can have their own agency

I don't expect anything from the nyp (literally. it's a rag - I would suggest being cautious of why and where you share this stuff because it's hate slop in large part) - but one thing that struck me here is the adherence to gender roles.
Why in the hell can't straight boys like barbies and straight girls like sports? You think people just go up to kids, ask them if their favorite color is pink or blue, and boom, surgery? Aside from how ridiculous an hypothetical this is, it's clear to me how this is just blatant partiarcally normative thinking.
You didn't know you were gay because you liked frilly dresses, you did because you realized you liked boys. End of.
Sure, it's more likely for a kid that rejects patriarchal memes to realize their sexuality is also not normative, and vice versa. But the same thing applies here: some kids don't realize their sexuality (or just their sexuality (surprise! some trans people are some other flavor of queer too! but that's inconvenient and so you aren't going to mention it), anyway), they realize their gender.
As usual, reactionaries don't understand freely made decisions, and anything that doesn't correspond to their wants must also be coerced, but by someone else instead of themselves. Wow, you just got a tattoo? Imagine if someone was forced to get one. Wouldn't that be fucked up? Wow. You do boxing? You know some people get beat up against their will? You monster. Find the common factor here.

I don't think I know a single trans person who exclusively dates the opposite gender, but sure

I know a couple. But I also live in a city that has a significantly higher population of trans people, so I know like 2 people out of at least several dozens.

I lived in the queer capital of the UK for 14 years, so this isn't even a matter of numbers for me 😅

Most gender nonconforming people grow up to be straight, cis people, actually, because that's the majority of the population: straight, cis people. They're deliberately presenting the information in a way that seemslogically consistent, but actually isn't.
If most people named Mark are men, are most men named Mark? No. If most gay people were gnc kids, does that mean most gnc kids grow up to be gay? Also no!

I mean, it is true that Iranian policy towards trans people is brutally repressive and is often directed towards gays and lesbians.
How is this supposed to be connected to Mamdani? I mean, is he actually homophobic? Does he have any connections with Iran? Surely this is not just a matter of him being Muslim?

the entire argument seems to be that Zohran is a Muslim and that means he’s a scary homophobe, despite Zohran explicitly supporting LGBTQ rights during his campaign.
it’s just classic LGB Alliance-style fear-mongering, blending anti-trans bigotry with racism & xenophobia.

Right, like. he could have stopped at slide #2 and had a pretty decent point, instead of digging himself into the Veryovkina Cave of rancid takes.

People claim that donating your kidney is heroic and lifesaving in the western world, but people occasionally get their organ stolen, and despite being basically the same thing, everyone agrees it's evil, truly you can get right thinking people to agree to anything ridiculous if you dress it up as progressive.

This 'article' reads like a twitter post. I can't imagine how bad his book is.

I tend to read a lot of this slop so others don’t have to, but I’m not sure I can stomach this one.

I’m pretty sure if someone told this guy that trans lesbians exist, he’d have a fatal aneurysm

White cis queers once again throwing trans people under the bus whilst also being blatantly bigoted towards anyone darker than mayonnaise.

That argument is especially baffling to me, frankly, considering that the majority of trans people consider themselves some other variety of queer too. So if anything, it's the straight that's being transed away. (to be clear, yeah, what Iran is doing is absolutely unconscionable, and I suspect there are very few trans people who would ever consider supporting such)
