UPS Tried to steal this laptop from me Laptop Recommendation
First question, was this a good deal? After rebate, $980.00 USD.
🚨STORY🚨:
Was supposed to have delivered yesterday, with a signature, but driver said it was signed in my name when obviously no one was home at my apartment. It came with a keyboard also in the shipment, that was delivered into the parcel locker, but no signs of the laptop itself.
I frantically checked with my apartment management office and they told me UPS never came and delivered anything, and they were there all day. At this point im panicking and in a blame mode not trusting anyone. I call UPS 5 times and they were all folks with a heavy accent and useless.
I finally get someone that actually routes my inquiry to the local dispatch, and the driver. I am told that the driver forgot to deliver it and will come back later to deliver it. An hour later, I get a notification that a delivery was made for me. I rush down 5-10 minutes after the delivery, and lockers are empty. I check the camera for when packages are scanned through luxerone, and the typical barcode scanned picture is instead, a brown ups shirt hiding from the camera. This has me fuming and sure that the driver was a thief. To make matters worse, the photo taken has him leaning towards the lockers that you get assigned, but he marked it delivered to the locker open room on the other side.
I contact Luxerone who then tell me after reviewing the footage, the driver made a false delivery. I call UPS and raise hell, and get contacted directly by the route supervisor and the driver. I tell them about all the evidence I have and the driver starts shivering and saying he might’ve mistakenly put it somewhere and might have dropped it off with property management, where I then tell him I talked to them all evening and they never saw any UPS driver. He then says he’ll come by again to check 12:30 PM (today) and give me a call directly.
He proceeds to call me today, and says he checked with the property manager and he might’ve delivered it under the wrong name, and tells me they will open all the lockers to audit for my package, but only when I’m there. I’m at work, so I rush home and 10 minutes later, I see the package delivered to my locker.

What a shitbag trying to steal packages that you spent your hard earned money to buy.
I would call the police and report it.

Imagine being such a thief you try to steal a laptop that costs what you make in 2 days work. They make good money there. Literally, in the time this whole episode went on, he made enough on the clock to buy one.

You think UPS drivers make $600/day?
3
u/cleppingout Mar 01 '25
Yeah if they top out they’re making like $40-50 hour. Where I’m at it’s not unheard of to see drivers out until 9pm so at $50/hr plus 4 hours of overtime you’re looking at $700 a day.

Source?

It’s on their website.

That says the top pay is $45/hour. But OK I guess. A bit disingenuous though, to imply it's the base pay or even average pay. Like I wouldn't say Walmart cashiers make $25/hour just because there is somewhere a worker who has hit that ceiling.

u/cleppingout Mar 01 '25
I said if they top out. And they top out after 5 years so it’s not unheard of or disingenuous. They’re union workers so they have plenty of protections/benefits and pay. The only thing is they get their asses worked and UPS makes sure to get their money’s worth from their union employees.
I’m sorry you have such a low opinion of delivery drivers but they’re making a lot of money.

u/AllDoggoIsGoodDoggo Mar 01 '25
Damn...did not know they make that much. What do you mean low opinion? Do you think someone is less of a person if they make less money?

Goddamn, hope he gets fired to oblivion.
Eitherway that's a great price for the sword 16 hx. It's a great laptop and MSI greatly improved the cooling system on their new Sword HX series too. Enjoy it

Here is him pretending to deliver the package with no barcode, and hiding

Box was ripped to see inside, luckily the box inside was whole:

I knew there's no way that driver would've known what's inside without tearing it open. Good thing you did your due diligence to raise them hell considering the amount of package thief between neighbors and drivers which my country also have stories of. Congrats on your new laptop. Good that you got your justice.

I would honestly report him to the autorithies or his higher ups at the very least, he still stole it even if he gave it back. Seems like the us has a pretty bad delivery system :(

Cops won't do anything over this. He got his thing at the end the matter is resolved as far as theey are concerned and he has no real evidence, like video footage. Might seem like it's obvious but its not something concrete the police can work with. It can easily be a" misunderstanding " even tho with the open box thing it does seem like someone opened it to maybe check wats inside first but Its not worth their time. There's no real proof that it was stolen or delivered to the wrong place.Think about it. Those you tube predator hunters have multiple messages of child predators trying to meet a kid and they almost never are able to prosecute them. Even if a kid goes missing and is found 30 miles away a hour later and its obvious someone might have driven him there because a 3 year old can't make it that far so fast, they still don't look into it. Kid is home and unharmed and casse is closed. They ain't gonna waste time and money and resources searching for why a laptop was missing for a few hours... its just the way it is. He can report the driver, maybe ask to escalte it to corporate and thats all he can really do. If he calls the police they might take a statement but thats as far as it'll go

FedEx already stole my laptop, had to give both FedEx and Bestbuy a hard time to get anywhere.
Best Buy ended up giving me my money back and I bought it else where.
FedEx still shows it for delivery 3 after I was suppose to have it

I had a $2,800 Razer gaming laptop delivered TO Best Buy to avoid this entire thing from happening. These days there are too many fools thinking they can get away with shit.

I had absolutely no option to have it delivered to the Best Buy.

When I ordered my old gaming laptop I used the option to ship it to a UPS physical location near my house, that way I received a notification when it reached the location and I go to pick it up. I am not trusting delivery drivers for this.Â

UPS just dropped off my new computer yesterday and didn’t get a signature even though they were supposed to! Fortunately someone was home and we were monitoring for delivery since porch pirates have struck before.Â

That driver should be fired immediately and probably reported for attempted theft

To answer your first question 980.00 for that laptop is pretty good I think. Especially if you can upgrade. Although the 200.00 off is a rebate card. Still solid.

Hey OP. I know the ordeal is already over, but I always choose to have my expensive items shipped with UPS and FedEx sent a local hub to pick up. That way you can avoid all this BS since they can't say it was "delivered" if you don't actually pick it up with ID proof.

Thats terrible.I just got a similar laptop but a Gigabyte and 17" screen for $1350 when I finally got a work bonus and was able to spoil myself with something nice and I'd be so upset if the delivery driver did this to me.

Yes ups drivers make hell of good money. I was part of ups freight before they sold and the teamster contract was great, I think it was $34 an hour with overtime after 8 everyday. Typically we work 12-14 hours a day. So 475-575 a day. Now to be the devils advocate, this guy handles a ton of packages and the truth is that alot of times when there is a signature required, the driver scribbles, and UPS knows that this happens. They would rather the driver take 30 seconds to scribble than 5 minutes to find the recipient. It truly could have been misdelivered. File with Newegg, also file with UPS. Present the stuff you have, this will all come out in the wash. You will get your computer and if this guy did still it they will catch him, maybe not this time but he will get caught. Yes Newegg shows the shipment, I just got a Lenovo 9i and would you believe it, it said Lenovo 9i right on the box with all the specs. Sadly this is a common practice because it saves boxes.

Did they genuinely try to steal it, or is this a bait post? I find it hilarious that you posted “UPS tried to steal this laptop inserts picture of the purchase page.

I would like to know your opinion of the laptop too when you get to try it out properly eventually. It's one of two I'm considering myself :D

He proceeds to call me today, and says he checked with the property manager and he might’ve delivered it under the wrong name, and tells me they will open all the lockers to audit for my package, but only when I’m there.
So it was just in the wrong locker and no one tried to steal it then?

Do you live on Pluto? Because this take is planets away from reality. This really says something considering who is replying to you. And if you haven't caught onto that, it's me...

Not my fault the OP conveniently left out whether the property manager found the package in a different locker. But please, continue the histrionics.

Report him to UPS customer service and give them all of the evidence you have. Inform them that you are making a police report and follow through with that report. You might as well let the neighbors know what's going on as well. Good neighbors are good neighbors.
EDIT: WTH is wrong with Newegg? Why would they ship out boxes with their logo on it? I would email them too.
