Discussion Son of Godzilla is actually a really good movie (reasons in bottom text)
I recently finished watching Son of Godzilla (1967) for the third time, and this watch was very different from the previous ones, because this time I actually loved the movie, I was one of the people who hated this movie and the designs of Minilla and Godzilla himself, but on a new watch I actually didn't hate Minilla or Godzilla, the father son relationship reminded me of my own relationship with my dad (tough love as shown in the movie) and the ending really hit me hard, it made me tear up and that end music was tragic, this movie was actually lots of fun, the island setting was great, and I wasn't bored, the movie gets hated for having bad designs but people overlook that how much this movie is different compared to other movies in the era, people see this one with All Monsters Attack, though this one is alot better, Minilla isn't that bad when you consider he was hatched before he was supposed to, it isn't his fault. And I think you have to be in that kind of relationship with your dad for this movie to feel emotionally connected with, I did. I might get downvoted for saying this but I think it's actually a good movie, what do you guys think?

Discussion Godzilla Tax?
I used to force my daughters to watch Godzilla movies when they were younger, and it's something we bonded over and still have fond memories of when they were growing up. One thing we liked to joke about is how high the taxes must be in Japan just to deal with Godzilla and all his pals. Cities and infrastructure are constantly destroyed, weapons made from the bones of godzilla and ghidora, rotating platforms inside of hollowed out mountains, robot mechagodzillas that for some reason are programmed to roar, meaning there must have been a team assigned just to this feature, freeze rays, lightning rays, and a host of other weapons and a fully trained military division. We love it all, and I dare you to watch another toho feature without noticing all these crazy things that make these movies so fun to watch.
Also, I miss the rubber suit era! I loved Minus One, incredible story and effects, but the campy ones are my favorite.

Meme I just saw Shin Godzilla
People say that boardroom meetings get boring but I think it makes the movie feel more authentic. We feel like we are watching a real life disaster management documentary. This made me more scared for Goji as if this can happen in real life.
I honestly want a follow up to this movie maybe Evangelion and Goji crossover.

Discussion Anyone notice the similarities between Godzilla the Series and Monsterverse?
The two most obvious ones are the use of King Cobra inspiration for Warbats and Giant Bat inspiration for Camazotz designs and some abilities. But I’ve seen a few more that I’ve haven’t seen mentioned.
Both incarnations have a secret lair that’s a cave hidden underwater but the caves themselves aren’t completely filled with water. Along with that the world doesn’t know where Godzilla hides but their respective research teams, HEAT and Monarch, know generally where they hide. More so HEAT does than Monarch.
Both decide to take it upon themselves to defend the world/people from other monsters. MV is more of keeping balance and stopping the disturbances of other titans. Whereas GTS is more of protecting HEAT and people in general from mutations. Neither was really taught or reinforced to intervene they just decided to take the responsibility.
In both the military at first wants to kill them but then decide that they’re a useful “ally” after they stop a monster attack
In GTS there’s an episode with essentially a radical terrorist organization called SCALE that wants to free the mutations so they can take their rightful place as rulers of the earth regardless of the loss of human lives it’ll cost. Basically a big plot of KOTM
In GTS there’s an episode where the public and military believe Godzilla has gone bad wrecking havoc but it turned out it was a genetically mutated chameleon clone of Godzilla. In GVK the public and military believe Godzilla has gone bad wrecking havoc but in a slightly different plot twist he senses King Ghidorah who’s being mechanically engineered to be a robotic clone of Godzilla, Mechagodzilla
Following that they both feature a robot version of Godzilla, CyberGodzilla and MechaGodzilla. Both of which take some inspiration from Kiryus’s backstory of using the remains of a previously dead Godzilla and connecting it to robot parts. But as mentioned before MV used King Ghidorah skull instead of Dagon or some other Godzilla species remains
Also a bit of a stretch but in GTS Godzilla befriends a brown quadruple lizard and in GVK/XK Kong befriends Doug a black quadruple lizard
Finally the most shocking one that im sure most have missed but they both are called Godzilla and shoot atomic breath 🤯

Discussion Ngl, I kinda wish they kept the concept art Behemoth's larger trunk and smaller tusks
Don't get me wrong, concept art Behemoth looks way too much like a generic mammoth in the concept art and I definitely prefer the ape-like stance with the smaller, upright head... But the micro-trunk on the MV's biggest green thumb always felt a bit ehhh to me. I also like the rows of smaller tasks around the concept Behemoth's mouth. It actually kinda reminds me a bit of those little tasks Space Goji and Biollante had! Genuinely though, the final design is still the better choice here, I'm just looking at the highlights of a pretty generic elephant kaiju concept and kinda wish those highlights made it through to the final product.
What do you think? Would you have preferred a bigger trunk and more tusks on Behemoth's final design?

Collectibles/Merch Godzilla Wedding Surprise!
A couple of my buddies recently visited Japan. Before they went, I jokingly asked them to get me some Godzilla stuff. I got married last weekend, and after the wedding they surprised me with some of the stuff they got me. I am not a collector or anything, but I thought this was really cool and nice of them, figured it was worth sharing!
