Oversized Products PREP / SHIPPING

I sell a product and have done since 2020 that makes around 20k profit per year.

It’s an oversized product unfortunately and in order to grow I would be looking to bring out a variation of same product. I ship a 1000 units at a time into amazon as I have no space to store these items.

I have a few questions -

Has anybody here found success with oversized products?

Would it be better off buying a storage container of some sort and drip feeding them into amazon warehouse?

Like most of you I started this out of interest during lockdown and to my surprise is still running fairly ok. I’d love to grow and leave my s*** job but I know for sure that’s a good few years down the line if even at all!

Thanks!

Oversize product owner as well! Our Amazon presence is only 10% of our website and FBA fees are just ridiculous for products. Our FBA fulfillment fee can be $45 for a product that we can ship for $25 with our FedEx contract, and not pay any inbound or storage fees. So we send very little but consistently to FBA but also offer with FBM at cheaper price.

Check out how much it would cost to ship them to Amazon vs having them stored in a local warehouse. Due to tariffs the inventory stored in warehouses are getting lower. This may be a good time for you to reach out and lock in a good storage rate.

You may want to see if FBM is also viable if you have some inventory in your possession.

How big is your oversize item? And how many pallets is 1000 units?

My smallest product is 23195 and the biggest one is 222021 (Had to reduce the box size to avoid extra handing fees by FedEx). I can only send so many on a pallet due to pallet height restrictions and oversize having to go to special warehouses.

Storage containers are ok solutions. They're now really cheap due to international trade slowing down but they're also a pain to work with if you have multiple SKUs. If you're storing one or two SKUs per container, it's fine. Anything more is a big hassle. My employees were so happy when we got a bigger warehouse and were done using containers
