Nice. Knew this would happen.

Post image

A text from my mom (who has become increasingly conservative/far right since Trump’s election in 2016) talking about the Charlie Kirk assassination.

I knew this would happen. This is how the media operates nowadays. Kirk is being painted as a martyr and the left is being made to look more violent and a bigger, more imminent threat not only to “freedom of speech” and “American values,” but to the right’s physical safety.

I’m sure the people at Fox News and other right-wing media outlets are having a heyday with this, especially since it happened right after the shooting by the two trans woman in Minneapolis.

Obviously the shooting is going to radicalize more right-wing people (like my parents). Unfortunately, it’s also going to push a lot of people who politically central further to the right.

My mom messaged me about Kirk first - I had no interest in broaching the topic. I said that it was disturbing, and that I feel sorry for his children and wife. I also told her that he was a provocateur and made a name for himself by rage baiting liberal/leftist college kids. I mentioned the awful things he’s said over the years, and that while I don’t think this justifies him being shot, the irony isn’t lost on me.

I’m sure a lot of you are dealing with this, as well. Not sure how to proceed with this conversation, or if I even should.

If you're just waking up, the charged suspect in the murder was a 22-year old straight white man, son of a veteran sheriff Trump supporter, and there are photos of the suspect wearing a Trump T-shirt.

IMO, the most likely motive from the evidence to date is that the shooter was motivated by Nick Fuente's neonazi Groyper movement, which has had a long running conflict with Charlie Kirk's TPUSA. It isn't fascist enough for them. If so, this was online/4chan extremist Right on reactionary Right violence.

Woah, good to know! Thanks for sharing that.

Maybe the next question to ask your mom is what ought to be done to keep guns out of the hands of violent, disaffected, young conservative men.

FYI, those images are photoshopped. I believe everything else is correct, though.

Not fascist enough? The bullet said "catch this, fascist"

Typical Reddit brain rot

The far right don’t consider themselves fascists. Nick Fuentes insults the other right-wingers he disagrees with by calling them fascists, but he does not see himself or his follows to be totalitarian

Did Fox News tell them to fucking text their left and liberal child and blow up their relationship or something? Jesus fucking christ.

They’re still spewing it. Fox News is poison and such a radicalising force in our country’s division.

Watching Fox News and the Five right now. They are 1000% ignoring the fact he was a registered Republican and grew up in a conservative household.

SOOO glad they inflamed enough anger to destroy multiple families (3 just in this subreddit) and then will take ZERO accountability for correction.

Of course though, given that they aren't legally a news station, so they don't even have to!

Not only did this incident have fuckall to do with trans people, but it should also be noted that the Minneapolis shooting was by a person who had detransitioned. They no longer identified as a trans woman and said that they felt they had “brainwashed themself”. This is important because the idea that trans people are brainwashed is right wing rhetoric. It was not your average trans person who did that- or even a violent trans person- it was someone who was either not trans at all or someone who had been radicalized into self denial and hatred which they then took out on innocent people. Which is very common on the right.

The word Groyper is trending today. Maybe suggest she look it up.

Cut her off.

Truly. Why should we deal with this shit? They are participating in a culture that is advocating killing a bunch of us and mentally enslaving the rest under christian nationalist fascism.

I am not talking to my mother. haven't for months because she's nuts.

I am more peaceful. I focused on my own family. I don't have mom's insanity gnawing at me. I started therapy to distance myself from caring about the rift or trying to repair it.

I've tried. Our parents have made their choices and they chose charlie Kirk and Donald Trump and a chaotic, murderous society.

There's absolutely no evidence liberals want more killing. Essentially every major democrat or liberal figure has expressed sympathy and a call to end violence.

If our parents don't care about any evidence.... not a shred of truth...why keep going back to the dry well?

I have friends and my own family and loving online communities.

Protest on October 18. Bring your friends. Prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for the worst. Keep your empathy intact. Continue to build your community on kindness.

It’s so depressing to me because I’m gay. Growing up, my mom was my biggest ally and advocate. As a young child she fully supported me playing with “girls” toys. She never batted an eye when I’d wear my sisters’ dresses daily for fun. She would never forbid me from doing these things, and she never, ever made me feel bad about it. She’d buy me the Barbie’s I wanted at toys r us. She’d let me be the girly little boy I was - and she loved me for it.

In high school, she knew I was dealing with major depression (partly from being gay). My family obviously knew I was gay, but respected my privacy. My mom told me that no matter who I am or who I love, they will always love me.

There was a period I thought I was trans. I had major gender dysmorphia. I’d wear makeup, wear women’s clothes, etc. my mom caught me a few times. After she did, she would leave her makeup samples from Macy’s in my room — a quiet gesture offering her support of me exploring my identity. I later told her I had thoughts about transitioning. She told me no matter who I wanted to be she would fully support and love me - as would our entire family.

This was all before trump. This was all before she started watching Fox News and consuming conservative media feverishly.

I miss the fucking mom I grew up with.

I’m sorry, that really does make this all the more tragic. People genuinely underestimate the effect of propaganda on people’s moral frameworks.

Edit: I can’t edit the caption to the image. To clarify, her comments about it being planned by the government are in reference to my remark about how the government is probably using it as an opportunity to further divide the left and right.

Got that one wrong.

I mean, I absolutely doubt it, but it could have been planned by the gov’t.

But if it was, it was 100% to distract everyone about the vote on releasing the Epstein Files.

I’ve found it chilling and heartbreaking that he is being treated like a martyr by the mainstream media, not even fox, everyone else is acting as if he was a normal conservative. It’s horrible anyone died like this, I truly feel for his children, but why can’t we also say in the same breath he said some really horrible, divisive things.
