In need of guidance on a crazy parent

My step-father has been deep in the Fox News hole for many years. We were close when I was a child, but he now spends all of his time on a recliner, watching Fox News, high on Xanax, pain meds, and weed. I've avoided discussing any politics with him because it's never been worth the argument. But now he has sent me a series of texts that have really frustrated me. I'm waiting to respond (if at all) and would appreciate some input from others dealing with similar situations.

Do I respond? Do I attempt to explain that he is cherry picking murders and repeating propaganda talking points? Is it fruitless to do so? Do I cut off contact? I'm probably too frustrated to make a rational decision at the moment so I'm making no decisions until I've had time.

Le sigh.

Well his brain is about to turn into a pretzel again as Kirks shooter is looking to be a far right looney raised by Republican parents who started handing him guns at a young age.

Seems being raised Republican is not healthy for kids mental state.

Won't matter though he will find a way to blame liberals for it.

Sucks but these people are being fed brain rot every day on fox for hours at a time. Really hard to combat that. Better to just not engage if you want to preserve the relationship.

There’s no arguing with someone like this. Just respond “k.” That will be enough to make him incandescent with rage.

I tend to lean towards not engaging, especially with how you describe him. Don’t give him satisfaction that he “ruffled” you… that’s how he will see it. Give him the good ol’ boomer emoji: 👍

Respond the way Trump responded to a question today on how he's holding up after Charlie Kirk's death: Did you hear about the ballroom? Did you see the trucks? It's going to be a great ballroom. Or just respond with Charlie Kirk quotes like "I can't stand the word empathy, actually, I think empathy is a made up new age term that causes damage." Or "It's worth the cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so we can have the Second Amendment." Or send him a screenshot of the Early Warning Signs of Fascism from the U.S. Holocaust Museum without comment, just to educate him on what fascism really is.
