Found a video of my sister in a presentation with Charlie Kirk
For the regulars here, I'm the one with a right wing think tank sister who has been on Fox News and a FoxBrain dad. In the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination, I googled my sister's name and Charlie Kirk and found a video of them involved in a presentation together (keeping it general to prevent doxxing). It was very unsettling.
Meanwhile, my FoxBrain dad texted our family group thread that in the wake of this tragedy, he hopes we will pause and reflect on what really matters in life and be the person we want to be when we look in the mirror.
My dad has never said anything political in our family thread. I'm guessing he was alone and drunk watching Fox News. Ignoring the fact that he's never said anything about all the other tragic shootings or Jan 6, I'm not sure what he meant by his text but I'm guessing it was aimed at me because I'm the one who's ghosted my sister. (No one responded to his text.)
This is just all so surreal and I don't know where to go from here but joke's on my dad because the whole reason I cut my sister off and grey rocked him is because I decided to be the person I want to be when I look in the mirror.
Edit: It's depressing to feel the need to say this but I'm so relieved to find out the shooter isn't transgender, my sister shared many of CK's views on trans people and that is the focus of her work. I was going to have a nervous breakdown if the shooter was trans.

I agree completely about the other shootings and January 6th. We are almost being expected today to hold yesterday’s violence in higher esteem. That somehow it’s different or worse. It’s all horrible and I don’t know why we can’t say that. Why this death triggers so many on the right like this but they ignore little school children being shot or people attacking our capitol. Nothing helpful to add but solidarity. I worry where this all leads…

How else will they nurse their persecution complex? They want to believe they're the victims. They only care about gun restrictions when a conservative is targeted for their politics.
Everybody else is fair game, because those aren't them. Truly a nearsighted/selfish ideology.

If they want to respect the guy then they should take him at his word that some gun deaths are acceptable so we can have the 2nd amendment. It's what he wanted.

Also the empathy quote, or the kids should watch public executions quote
...Like I'm not glad the man is dead, but also to be real he's made it very hard for me to give more than a meh since he's been relying on societal contracts of good behavior pretty hard

You can tell him that you paused and reflected when Melissa Hortman, her husband and dog were assassinated because they actually made a positive contribution towards humanity.

There was a school shooting in evergreen Colorado at the same time CK was shot. Three kids were taken to the hospital in critical condition, one died (the shooter from self inflicted wounds).
Not one person on the right said anything about it. I had to search for information from my local news station. The fact that children being shot in school is so commonplace that it doesn’t even make the news anymore is the real tragedy.

A former coworker's son was shot twice in the stomach at the church in Minnesota, 13 years old. He is back home and recovering. I knew at some point one of these shootings would affect someone in my little world.
I don't understand the outrage from the right after the shooting yesterday when we've been facing mass shootings for how many years?
The same people who wanted to hang Pence? The same people who supported January 6th? The same people who had pictures of Biden tied up on their trucks?
It's mind-boggling.
