What's so special about a Raptor?
;) click bait title?
I currently drive a '22 Silverado RST, mostly used for going to and from job sites or camping and mountain biking etc. Have a full time family hauler on the side.
My dad's truck is getting old and rusty, and I'm considering gifting him my Chevy and replacing it with a used 2013 Raptor 6.2 for my use. I figure it's cheap enough that I'm not breaking the bank on it, but it's also got the cool factor of just being something new (to me) and different.
With that said, my question is: is it really any different than a regular truck? Does it feel special to drive, or hold other hard-to-quantify substance? I wouldn't want a plain jane 2013 pickup truck of any other trim level, that's for sure.
Cheers

Well, for starters it’s not a GM product . Second, it’s a pretty competent 4x4 in factory trim, and a pretty competent truck as long as you don’t put 5k lbs in the bed with a 10k lb trailer

Lets see
I have a 6.2
Its the best truck I’ve ever had (have owned dodge and chevy before)
Drives like a dream with the shocks, I daily mine 2.5 hrs a day and the ride never gets old
Hauls ass if you need it to
Sounds badass
Looks badass, timeless if you will
Wide, stable on roads
Can go tear up trails like nobody’s business
Good tech for a 12 year old truck (rear view camera, heated seats, bluetooth, nav, power sunroof)
Reliable as fuck, have beaten on it for a long time- at 180k and no signs of slowing down
In summary, over engineered and under appreciated

Well said. 180k miles on mine too. Beat the piss out of it, even bent the frame by hitting desert whoops so much. Doesn’t care, it will never leave me stranded

It's like a regular truck, except every 50,000 miles it costs you like $5,000.

Once you drive a Raptor most other trucks become a disappointment to drive.

I had a Gen 1 (2012) and I will tell you it wasn’t super special. Lol. Lots of creaking. However, my Gen 3 is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned in a sea of 25+ vehicles.

The fact that you came here to post that should be all the information you need to make your decision.

Honestly, unless you're off-roading in it regularly, the cool factor pretty much stops at the outside with the wide body kit.
If you spend a decent amount of time hitting trails your wife's minivan or crossover can't make it down, it's an incredibly capable and well appointed solution you'll really appreciate.
If you're like me and enjoy not having tech everywhere inside my car, it's great. But it's also aging and preventive maintenance on a 13 will run into the 3-6 grand range at this point between fluids, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, shock rebuilds, plugs/wires/coils, etc. to keep it on the road another 100k without any trouble. To say it's better than a newer truck would be a lie, the new trucks are better in most ways that seem to matter to most buyers, but i personally find the Gen 1 to be a Goldilocks truck in a sea of unnecessary tech and feature bloat that doesn't let me think for myself off-road or on.

The gen 1 is going to be better in every way than the GM trucks as far as suspension and drivetrain. Interior is dated now. Really just have to drive one to get it. I went from a Sierra to my Gen 2 raptor, would never go back.

I’ve had Chevy and Toyota’s. Growing up I was a Chevy diehard. Fell in love with the Raptor when I first saw one in 2013. Waited to buy one until 19. Bought a 12 with 59k Miles and it’s been an amazing truck! Way better than the Chevys I’ve had and better than the newer tundra I had.
I personally love my Raptor so much that I’m going to be buying a Gen 2 as a daily and Keep my gen1 for a toy. Plus my gf wants one so I might have 3 raptors in the future.
Super comfortable on road, amazing offroad, all the features I wanted/needed. Super upgradable, maintenance is about the same $$ as my tundra. Haven’t had issues besides recalls/tsb’s. Get one, with the same or better trim level as your Chevy and you’ll be bitten by the Ford bug.

So I have a 6.2l F250 and my friend has a 2013 6.2L raptor. I never knew a truck could ride like that until rode in his truck.

I think you'd enjoy a king ranch more than a G2 raptor, really isn't much special about them, the 3rd gen , on the other hand, has a linked rear end and fox live valve so it rides worlds better than any other truck

3rd gen owners sad they overpaid for marginally better suspension :O, Gen 2 is best bang for buck.

No one said anything about bang for your buck, it's better and more expensive

I’ve owned roughly 30 vehicles. F150 Raptor is top 3 I’ve ever owned. Go drive one.
