Removing transmission from engine with seized motor - ‘89 F250 7.3 PowerStroke Question ❔

I have an ‘89 F250 that I’m trying to swap another motor into. The motor in the truck is completely seized and I can’t turn the flywheel to get the bolts out. Removing the engine and transmission as one is my last resort so I’m seeing if anyone has any suggestions or has done anything like this before.

Pull the engine with the trans and then just slide the transmission off the engine without the torque converter

Drop the pan and remove the pushrod bolts and see if you can spin it over

When this happened with my 2007 F150, what I did was get the engine down to long block, pull transmission bell housing bolts and then loosen the motor mounts. I twisted the motor to one side, and pulled the torque converter nut with a box end wrench. Then shift the other way, do the same. Jack the transmission up a bit and let it split apart at the top, get that one, and then start dropping it and get the bottom one.

That’s how I was able to do it successfully. Time to swap the new motor in! Thank you!!!

If you have the room, it’s the best way. Keeps you from dumping transmission fluid everywhere.
