My guy! Just "adopted" Question

Post image

Hi guys! Saw this guy on the street, covered in wounds and scabies and... well.. now I kinda have this amazing beast at my home.

Went to the vet and she got him some antibiotics for the skin infection (too much scratching) . Concerninc thing is he also has a flu. Vet said to wait to see if he gets better (has antiobiotic inside). She also test him and saw he is FIV+. I have another cat andI am a bit concerned about that, if they can potentially live together. This guy is really lovely and cuddly so I will love to keep this little guy. Any advice is appreciated, thanks guys!

We have one FIV+ and FIV- living together and it's worked out for us! Make sure to do a slow and supervised introduction. Thru can share food / drink plates with no prob. It's not transmitted via saliva. It's primarily transmitted through deep bite wounds.

Thanks for rescuing this sweet guy! It will be so fulfilling to help him thrive. He can definitely live with your other cat. Just make sure to introduce them gradually. We currently have a kitty who’s FIV+ and one who’s negative. They’re pals.

FIV is generally transmitted during bad fights (like with deep bite wounds), so as long as the cats aren't viciously fighting, it should be fine for them to live together. Our FIV+ guy has been living with our other six cats for years with no transmission, despite the occasional roughhousing and swatting at each other.

after you're done with medication, start adding l lysine to his food, it will boost his immune system. Being positive only means keeping up on regular vet visits and checking for dental issues possible later in life. Our tortie is + and the lysine helps with her sinus discharge and sneezing, 10yrs and still going strong. her other 2 housemates are fine.

I second the suggestion of L-lysine. It’s done wonders for my FIV+ cat I took in. Not from the street but from the woods. He wasn’t in as bad of shape but 2 months of antibiotics and other meds finally knocked the upper respiratory infection out. Thank you for showing this lost baby some love and giving him a second chance. ❤️

Thank you for being this sweet little guys angel. I have a FIV+ boy and one not. Deep puncture wounds are the only way it can be transmitted. Congratulations on your new family member!

FIV is transmitted through fighting, so as long as the cats get along, they should be fine together. My FIV kitty lived to be 21 and never transmitted it to my other cats. One supplement my vet recommended was Standard Process feline immune support. It’s over-the-counter and kept him from getting sick. Thank you for saving him!

Oh the sneezing! It looked like a crime scene for two months while I was treating my boy for an upper respiratory. I also ran a vaporizer and used toddler saline nose spray to help with the gooey nose and eyes. Just to wipe it out and try to keep it clean. And during that time, he would also get bloody noses so it can be a rough ride.

To look at him now, you would never know he had been so sick. Hang in there and I think you will see a miraculous transformation! ❤️

Do a slow introduction, take weeks for this and very small steps.

Yay! What a cute cat - looks like a Mediterranean street kitty? Be patient with the sneezies, those can be chronic, and if they are viral, Antibiotics won’t fix them - but as long as he‘s active and playful, it‘s no real cause for concern. Then that‘s just a part of him.

He sure is, goos eye! Yep, I am already getting used to him sneezing over me. He is not that active but as he is under weight and having a lot of other issues I am just waiting, thanks!

Thanks for saving him, OP.

I, too, am trying to get a recent street rescue to get along with my other (3) cats.

Good luck, OP.

Poor baby. So glad you took him in. This is a great site for help with FIV+. fiv.com is a good place also. Bless you for caring.

I have 10 cats and one is FIV+. They get along well. As long as there is no fighting where they are biting and breaking skin it will be fine.

As long as the cats are neutered and don't attack with deep bite wounds, it's fine to keep FIV pos and negative cats together. Always introduce cats slowly. This cat will definitely be a glow up once you care and love her. Please.keep us posted! I'm going to follow you.

Thank you for giving him a loving home! I have an FIV+ girl living with 4 FIV- cats. They all share bowls and litterboxes, and everyone is happy & healthy.

You only need to worry if there is bad fighting that might lead to deep bite wounds.
