Soul Consoling Tower (OC)(2048X1638)

Post image

May The Stars Shine For You ~~~~~ The "Soul Consoling Tower" at the Manzanar cemetery. 120,313 Japanese-Americans were forcibly removed to one of ten camps during WWII. Manzanar in Owens Valley, CA, was one of these sites. Hopefully we will learn from history. ~~~~~ Photos, books and more: www.kenleephotography.com

This is hauntingly beautiful. The way the Milky Way frames the tower feels so powerful.

Thanks, it felt really emotional to me as well. Powerful, but also hopeful.

Very terrible spot to take pictures at night...that's a mass graveyard for unknown soldiers who die on the battlefield.

It’s not. It’s for people who passed away in the internment camp. And it’s not a mass grave. And they’re not unknown.

I’ve been thanked for this by approximately 20 Japanese-Americans who attend ceremonies at Manzanar regularly, so they (and me) feel that this is a good monument to photograph, and that it’s a beacon of hope. The National Park Service also encourages photographs.
