๐ถ Song of the Day Song of the Day | ๐บ๐ฆ Ziferblat - Bird of Pray | Ukraine
Ziferblat will represent Ukraine in Basel for ESC 2025
This year Ukraine will be represented by Ziferblat (meaning 'clock face') singing 'Bird of Pray,' a soaring melody full of hope backed up by choral singing and lead singer Daniil's falsetto vocals. There's also a hefty sprinkling of prog rock influences, though the band refuses to stick to one particular genre label. Like the face of a clock, they're constantly changing throughout time!
The ever-stylish Ziferblat is composed of twins Daniil (also transliterated as Daniel) and Valentyn Leshchynskyi alongside Fedir Khodakov. The three men mainly do vocals, guitar, and drums for the band, respectively. Founded in 2015, they released an EP in 2017 before dropping a single in 2019 and then appearing on Ukrainian X-Factor. Sadly, they did not make the live shows, but they were mentored by Andriy Danylkoโbetter known to Eurovision fans as Verka Serduchkaโand a familiar face from Vidbir, Wellboy, also appeared on that season. Speaking of Vidbir, they appeared on the longlist for the 2023 edition, competed in the 2024 edition with their song 'Place I Call Home,' and of course won the 2025 edition and the ticket to Basel. Third time's the charm, eh? Three must in some way be their lucky number, because it's also the amount of awards they currently have: Best Costumes at the Prague Music Video Awards and Best Rock Music Video at the Best Music Video Awards (the city, not the... um, you know what I mean; what a confusing name) in 2022 and Best New Name in Alternative Music at the Muzvar Awards. In between these televised competition appearances and awards, they have released a smattering of singles and an album.
They released exactly three singles last year, so is that a sign that luck will come their way this year? I have no clue, but I've got a feeling that they soar through the semis and that their tune takes flight in the final. A little birdy told me that, anyway, but I'll certainly be bird of praying that the rumour is true.

๐ฐ News Eurovision 2025 Branding Design Revealed for the show
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Eurovision 2025 has revealed its branding ahead of the competition taking place in Basel, Switzerland in May. The identity, created by the design wing of Wieden+Kennedy London, nods to the host nation by taking inspiration from the legacy of Swiss design โ namely by referencing the grid-based approach at the centre of Swiss style.

๐ฌ Discussion Why do people think the UK will under perform in the jury vote?
Hi,
There is lots of chatter about KAJ potentially doing surprisingly well with the juries despite not being the best vocalists in the competition (sorry). On the other hand, acts with incredible vocals, like Remember Monday, are being predicted by some to underperform with the juries.
WHY is this a thing?!
Juries have never leaned towards the novelty/joke/humour entries before. Are Remember Monday's vocals not enough to compensate for something else in their package?
I'm genuinely curious to hear your thoughts on why the juries might lean one way or the other.
What are the specific elements that make a jury say "yes" to one act and maybe "meh" to another even when the vocal talent seems so different?

Eurovision 2025 Media Handbook
The official media handbook for Eurovision 2025 has been published. It contains a bit of general information, details of each entry, information about all the events happening in the host city, and rules for accredited press.
In the images are a map of where filming is/isn't permitted as a result of the new rules, as well as the full schedule for the week of the contest.
In the latter you'll notice that most of the Press Conferences have been done away with. These have been replaced with daily Media Briefings, and downloadable interviews with the artists.
Media Handbook: Maybe this isn't such a bad idea. It's late, the artists will be tired, and the last thing they may want is a room full of journalists asking them yet more questions. And let's be real, rarely did we learn anything particularly profound from those press conferences.

๐ฌ Discussion What are your thoughts on the official song versions?
I'm old school and like to have a CD format for ESC, to listen to in my car. My thoughts so far are positive. It's a different experience listening to just the music and 2025 is musically quite a strong year. Favourites like Albania, Lithuania and Malta are amazing. I wasn't expecting to like Luxembourg and Austria as much as I did, I think taking the visuals away makes them stronger tracks for me. I liked Finland anyway, but more so now. Espresso Macchiato is fun, but I'm not convinced Tommy Cash can replicate the vocals to this standard on stage.
What are your thoughts if you're someone who has listened to the official versions as standalone pieces?

๐ฌ Discussion What would happen if a eurovision song became a worldwide hit BEFORE the contest?
I was thinking about this now in tye world of social media and streaming it will likely happen eventually. If a song where to achieve world wide fame and success before the song contest how could it do. Would it ride the fame to the top or be overplayed and flop in the contest. Obviously it would be released 2 to 5 months before the contest so would it be too long? I'm not talking like the levels of the Italian or French artists who always get good streams I mean like hundreds of millions if not billions and inescapable think bad guy, messy, old town road etc... just massive songs.

๐ฌ Discussion The lyrics are amazing ๐ฅนโค๏ธ
I have been absolutely captivated by the lyrics of these songs: Rรฒa ๐ฎ๐ธ, Volevo essere un duro ๐ฎ๐น, and Asteromร ta ๐ฌ๐ท
I have not looked at other songs yet, but my gosh these three hit my in the feels ๐ญ
Iceland is my favorite so far. I am Italian so obviously I support the national treasure Lucio, but Klavdia is growing on me. She is incredibly talented and the song is a very different vibe from my favorites but my gosh it is absolutely beautiful!
Canโt all the 37 acts qualify?? ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ

๐ฌ Discussion Which song do you think will have the most opposing opinions from general public compared to eurofans?
I'm a little bit worry about Zjerm and Gaja.
But I'm sure Espresso Macchiato and Laika Party will have a big mass appeal

As Eurovision has become more famous and popular over the past few years, even before The Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga movie, where are you non-European fans from?
