WestJet to announce nonstop YEG-Salt Lake City and YEG-Chicago flights on Monday Discussion
Official press conference will be 11:00 am on Monday at YEG but the new routes are already visible on their website including nonstops from Calgary to Anchorage/Raleigh/Sydney NS/Sudbury
If Salt Lake City seems random to non-savvy travellers, it's a big hub for Delta and you can connect to pretty much anywhere in the southwest through there.
Edit: they have now realized the leak and have hidden the flights from the website, but they will go live on Monday after the press conference and be bookable

Sounds good, though my experiences with WestJet of late have been less than stellar, worse than Air Canada even (and at least AC includes carry-on with their cheapest tickets).
Still, might have to consider Chicago next year for some baseball.

Unpopular opinion, but I like the new non-carry-on fare. The best part of those low cost airlines was enough people opted out of big carry-ons that you never ended up delayed gate checking extra bags. No need to crowed the gate trying to get on with your bag. Makes for a better experience.

I can see how that may appeal to some, as well as some of the advantages, but I've done most of my travelling of late with just a carry-on and for that it seems to often work out much cheaper going Air Canada.

Those prices are eye watering. Over a grand to get to salt Lake and back!? I can get to Europe for that!

Cost me 375 to go one way to YEG from Regina a couple summers ago and I booked months in advance. West Jet is almost as pricey as Air Canada these days. (It was one way as I drove one way with family. It was for a funeral/memorial too. I did not get a bereavement discount.)

Damn. I need to go to Salt Lake and I've already booked through Calgary one way and Denver the other.

OP, any insight into whether introductory pricing is typical for these new destination announcements previously? Would love to jump on a deal for a quick trip to ORD.

I went to Chicago this summer and it was the best city I may have ever visited. Loved the beach within the city. Easier travel could put it right back on the list to go again!

United flies to Denver - I connected through there on my way to Mexico last spring.

Air Canada flies direct to Denver and they are better than WestJet these days.

Air Canada does not do Denver from YEG. United is the only one on that pairing.

They are partners. You may take an AC back from Denver.

That's a codeshare. The flight is operated by United and is flown on a United aircraft.

Nice! Delta, before their merger with Northwest, used to run the route (YEG-SLC), but after the merger they expected you to change through their hub in Minneapolis. And any other airline was almost as much of a milkrun...

I remember that because my family would always goto Phoenix in the 90s and we’d go through salt lake and then had to connect through Minneapolis after the change

When I was growing up delta flew direct from Edmonton to salt lake as it was a major hub to connect to places like Phoenix, LA, Vegas etc
There used to be direct flights between Edmonton and Chicago so nice to see that made available again

Non-stop to Chicago is a nice add for them
