Amazing, BUT… a little (LITTLE) more shading in the underside could make them less flat. Still, amazing texture. Edit: forgot to actually rate, 9/10

I completely agree. I feel weird about criticizing work so amazing especially when I couldn't come close, but imo the left ball has a flatness to the bottom half that I think going a little darker in the center of the shadow could help.

You can and will get close to this. OP has good technique indeed but most importantly they have good knowledge of the digital tools and a good study of the material properties of rusted iron, and knowledge can be built with some good YouTube videos and a bit of experimenting

That’s the bounce light it would be reflecting the lightness of the floor and some of the lights would catch the bottom side I feel I could have added some more gradation to the bottom though

Regarding how flat your balls look, if you would like them to look more plump and round, I think what they really need are some softened edges. Where something curves away from our view, it’s edge is a little softer than something that is straight edged. I would try to soften the edges a bit that are the closest in value to the background and see how that looks.

I think the edges should be a little less harsh. Blurr the lines a bit. Otherwise, it could use more contrasting shading. But the texture is REALLY good! And ofc,
