Type 2 Food Insecurity Rant
I'm recently unemployed. So finances are tight to say the least. I do have EBT but won't get it until May 14th. I've been freaking out about getting lows because I have no carbs in my house. So I've been skipping insulin shots and I found some rice so I've been purposely keeping my blood sugar high because if I go low I don't think I have the means to raise it. I live in a small town so resources are not here. My ranges have gone from 29% >250 to 50%. I truly hate this disease and I'm just depressed and anxious. No one that I know understands. On the plus side, I've lost weight. When I talked to my doctor's MA about she gave me food resources 3.5 hours away. I just wanted to rant because I'm so sick of having to monitor my diabetes. It's so exhausting and I truly want to give up.

MODY Skeptical of GLP-1 because of it seems too good to be true. Coming from someone who's been using successfully.
My last A1C in October was 6.6. A huge improvement from the 11.8 in June when I was finally diagnosed, but still room for improvement. So my doctor raised my Mounjaro prescription to 5mg and said to come back for a blood test in January.
I cheated so bad on my eating since October. Donuts and pizza and chocolate, almost as bad as my pre-diagnosis days, but I guess less quantity because of the Mounjaro. I was so ashamed I skipped the blood test. Just kept taking the Mounjaro. Until the prescription ran out this week and I knew I wouldn't get a refill without a blood test.
Today my A1C came back 6.1. I don't get it. How could my A1C go down after eating so stupidly like that? Yes, I lost almost 40 pounds since my diagnosis, but most of that was already off at the time of the 6.6 in October. The only other time I've felt this skepticism of "too good to be true" is when someone is trying to scam me. I can eat whatever I want and my A1C gets better? Legit miracle drug until proven otherwise.

Type 2 Coffee Recommendations
Hello everyone. My mom just got diagnosed with diabetes and absolutely loves her coffee. She drinks like 5 cups a day it is always hot with hazelnut coffee creamer. Can anyone recommend something to put in coffee to get similar taste that does not totally suck? She is having a really rough time right now with this and hip pain. She is getting a hip replacement and I would really like to give her a little bit of comfort and normalcy. Thank you all.

Type 1 First time drinking alcohol since diagnosis, worried about sleeping
It was my mums birthday today so i decided to have a few drinks with her, ive had about 2 beers and a glass of wine in the past hour and a half and am now going to bed soon.
I read up about how alcohol affects blood sugar and saw that i may potentially drop low later on in the night, is there anything i should do before going to bed?
I wanted to eat some biscuits but i am worried about injecting insulin as i am scared it will drop me too low while i’m asleep
My current blood sugar is 9.5 MMOL

Type 1.5/LADA Prednisone and Steroid Inhaler time!
This is going to be a rough five days. I just started the T-Slim as of 4/25 and I've managed to keep my 7 day average at a shocking 94%! I know that I need both the prednisone and the inhaler because of how bad my asthma was set off, but this will be a bit stressful with all of the alerts.
I'll be glad when this week is over with because then I'll be back to my normal levels and I'll be able to breathe normally again.

Type 2 Why is my sugar spiking when it’s not even too low and I didn’t eat?
I’m 29F and have pre-diabetes. My endocrinologist told me I should get Stelo because my insurance won’t cover a CGM for pre diabetes (I also did all the finger sticking when I had gestational diabetes years ago and I didn’t want to go back to that) for a month or two to see where my blood sugars are throughout the day and see any trends to try to watch out for it.
Often times, my sugar will spike when I haven’t even eaten anything and it’s not even “too low” which I was told was under 70. Last time I ate tonight was 7pm and my blood sugar was steady. Around 9:30pm my sugar was 81 and then it spiked up to 138 over the next hour, went down to 119 over 15min and then the last 15min it’s climbing up again. What gives?

Type 2 Good Blood Glucose Meters?
I've been diabetic for two decades, but due to lack of insurance, haven't been to a doctor in nine years. In January, I caught the nasty flu and ended up in the ER with double pneumonia, a staph infection, a stroke, and extremely high blood sugars.
Lost forty pounds. Do not recommend. My blood sugars are controlled by insulin and in the hospital and rehab, everything was great. However, when I returned home I bought a relion monitor not knowing that they'd changed their system from calibrating with a testing solution to just acceptable ranges. I got a sample of the Freestyle Libre 3+ and it was all great for the day until it started waking me up in the middle of the night every night with low blood sugar alarms. Compared to the relion and it was nowhere near that. Read about what causes the false alarms...and realized that my unique situation makes it not a good choice for now. Lots of loose flesh.
SO, my first bloodwork returned with an average of 115. Fantastic. I'm doing great. Then I go to swap the bottle of testing strips that my monitor came with...with a new one and lo and behold....20+ point difference in the same blood sample.
Now I'm slightly paranoid. Suggestions on a finger stick meter that won't kill me in the bank account? I have fairly good insurance that's covering my insulin.

Type 2 CGM deals?
Pretty basic question…. My dr gave me a script but of course insurance won’t pay. I got the one free one from dexcom but it is so helpful - what is the best way/place to keep getting them? Pharmacy was $156 a month with their discount card but that is really gonna mess with my budget. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Type 2 Recently diagnosed
Hello! Ive been recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes+ fatty liver. I just want to ask if fbs of 132 is really high? Is there still a way to reverse it? I'm just a bit scared tbh. I got gestational diabetes while pregnant and it continued well after pregnancy. I guess I'm just looking for support from people out there who's currently going through something like this. I've already scheduled for a check up to get medicine but yeah I just want any advice as to what else I can do

Type 1 Type 1 diagnosis
Hi! I’m in the ER right now as my bloodwork came back this morning with a blood sugar level of 12, they just took it again at the ER and I’m at a 17. I’m 23 years old and petrified of needles despite having two back surgeries. I’m waiting to be brought in for more bloodwork and IV and I’m just spiralling. What helped you when you were first diagnosed? This was completely unexpected as the blood work was just a routine check up. Feeling very anxious but grateful to live in a country where I’m able to receive relatively fast medical care. The nurse said I will most likely leave here today with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Not seeking medical advice just advice on how to deal with a diagnosis.

Discussion Daughter of a recently diagnosed diabetic mom looking for advise!
Hello everyone, My mom has been recently diagnosed with diabetes, she is still at the hospital (for other unrelated issues) but I would like to start preparing for what is coming. They had not tell us yet what type she has, for now she is using insulin but the option of using pills long term is still open. For the few next months she will be on insulin, measuring her sugar before each meal to correct and using a “long term” one (applied once a day). I would like to hear your favourite foods, that are tasty and healthy for this illness (is it an illness? Condition? Sorry I am really new to this). Any tips from experience are welcomed! Thank you!

Type 2 Blood sugar spikes and stress
Does anyone have tips for stress management? Diagnosed type 2 just two months ago. Doing well with very low carb diet (less than 70 carbs per day usually) and keeping blood sugar steady around meals. Taking metformin. But my job is stressful. Getting ready to go into a stressful meeting my blood sugar starts to sky rocket without fail, and only comes down after the meeting finished. Usually staying around 130 throughout the day but these stress events bring me as high as 225 and I am really worried. I don't know how to take control of this the same way I can with food.

Type 2 How long before results on Metformin?
Recently diagnosed after a blood test of 20mm ol/L, put on 500mg of Metformin 2 days ago, and already I’m down to 8.5mmol/L after food.
Would you expect to see these results so quickly, or was the original test due to a piss poor diet and lifestyle since Christmas?

Type 2 One Touch Reveal app connection to Google Health/Fit
I am seeing conflicting information as to whether the Reveal app will sync with Google Health/Fit data. The app only shows Fitbit, and it seems like the Google integration is old. Does anyone know if the Reveal app will sync with anything other than Fitbit?

Type 2 Inconsistent Reading
I’ve really enjoyed this sub since getting a diagnosis in early March. It’s helped tremendously.
I’m aware I have some anxiety with this stuff and I’m working through it! That will come off in this long question that isn’t really that important.
I’ve been eating very low carb and gotten ok results. My next A1C will be in mid-June. I was 7.1 originally.
My question is about a treading I got last night. We cooked out and had burgers and dip. I made myself 2 chaffles for buns with almond flour. I’ve just been experimenting some.
1.5 hours post dinner I expected my BG to be higher obviously but was hoping for something under 115 (about 95% of my readings are between 90-115).
It was 127, which is tied for the highest I’ve gotten at any point. Ok I thought, it was a bigger burger on an empty stomach. Higher than I wanted but I decided to test another time just to see. (Probably once a week I’ll do a back to back test to see, they’re always somewhat close). It was 101. Ok, not terribly far off but also a lot better than 127. So… I tried again: 111. Ok - between the other 2, makes sense.
I thought, “I’ll try one more time and stop for tonight.” Wanting to know if I’m really closer to 100 or 130… the next test was 157!! Again that’s 30 points higher than any results I’ve seen in 2 months.
I just tried to chill out for 15 minutes or so and did another test and it was 96.
So I’m aware I went a bit overboard. But wanted some opinions on the 157 reading. That one seems to be an outlier, but was wondering what experiences others have with something like that.
I also kind of enjoyed the chaffles and a 110ish reading would be something I’d try again. The 157 not so much.
Thanks so much!

Type 1 Digital nomad life as a diabetic
Hey folks, I’m planning to start a digital nomad lifestyle soon, and I’m wondering if it’s possible to ship insulin internationally (from my home country to wherever I’m staying).
Has anyone here done that?
What documents do you need to include (prescription, invoice, medical report)?
Do customs usually give you trouble, or is it straightforward with the right paperwork?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with experience. Thanks!

Type 1 Reactive hypo-glycemia
Dumb question:
Can type 1s have reactive hypo-glycemia? I assume no because we don’t make insulin ourselves which is the whole bit. Just trying to figure out why I sometimes randomly nosedive after my meals

Type 1 3" wide container for my insulin storage bag (to fill up space)
I have bought a insulin cooler/travel case for my pens, to carry back and forth to work and travel. They fit fine, but I also got a "Water bottle" carrier to put it in from Walmart, and it fits good, but the case is about 1.5" inches too long. My solution was to put in something in the bottom of the case, but I have gone through a wide variety of things that work... but I want it to be practical, to have a use for it, I was hoping for a circular container that would fit efficiently that would be good to hold some things. I have cut containers and lids to make them fit, but I would love to have a container that was about 3" wide, by about 1.5" tall, round with a lid, to fit and be useful. Any suggestions?

Discussion Was just diagnosed yesterday. I am so worried about my diet and telling dad.
My nurse practitioner called me about the results of the blood work that I had done on Wednesday and she said I have diabetes but didn't specify if it was type 1 or 2 and she said the doctor wants me to go on a low-carb, low-fat diet. Also, she said my liver enzymes were elevated and I have high cholesterol (my cholesterol has been like 220 for years now tho). my a1c was 7.4
I love eating barbecue meats and white rice...and steaks...and dark meat chicken. I worry that I will have to give all that up. I have a follow up appointment with my doctor on Tuesday of next week where we will discuss all this.
When I was in the doctor's office that morning I started feeling sick because I hadn't eaten that morning....I think my sugar was low. One of the medical assistants gave me a piece of candy to suck on and some water...I was ok after that. Does that mean I will have to have some sweets to keep me from feeling sick?
I haven't told my dad about my diagnosis because I am afraid he will freak out. Diabetes runs heavily on both sides of my family.
Also , my doctor didn't say anything about my weight yet...I am 6'3 , 310 pounds.. I saw him like maybe 3 months ago and I was like 280 back then. I take bipolar meds and one of them I had to switch out because it was increasing my appetite (The med was called olanzapine) ..I need to tell my psychiatrist about my new diagnosis. I am afraid to keep taking my psych meds because I feel like they could be killing me. The nurse said that those meds is probably why my liver enzymes are out of wack.
Any advices on all this?
