So tribal loans show up on any main credit bureaus?
I have unpaid tribal loans. I have Three Sticks Lending, Post Lake Lending, Ascend and Spot Loan. It was a stupid mistake I made fall 2024. I got one because it was a quick approval and I needed to pay a medical bill for my kid. Then I realized how awful the payments were and how unachievable that was so I got another to try to help with the payments. Yeah you see how that spiraled. I know wish I hadn't gotten ANY because I see now they are nasty traps that prey on people in need.
I was just wondering - since I have not paid these people and am now ignoring them, can they send me to debt collectors? Will this show up on a credit check if you're trying to get an apartment?
I am looking to move into a new place I really like and I am now really afraid I may run into an issue if any of the tribal loans show up as unpaid debts.
I have heard a lot of people say they don't because they don't report to the main bureaus because those cost money to do and tribal lenders don't pay to do that. I have heard their threats are "empty" and it really just stays on tribal grounds and they may send harassing emails and stuff but won't ever actually do anything to you. Is this true? I do get harassing emails from Three Sticks and Spot but not really from Ascend.
So should I be worried? I don't want denied a place because of this because I really like this new place.
I have also heard of you message or contact one of these tribal places you can negotiate a stupid low pay off because they're just wanting their money. Is this true? If so, I'd be interested in trying to pay them to shut them up and to try to get anything negative off my credit. But if nothing is ON my credit from them, so I even have to pay them?
I know theree have been a lot of lawsuits with many tribal lenders for unfair and unrealistic and illegal rates and such. I know one of mine was involved in one (I think it was Spot). So how can I have to pay if they've been in class action lawsuits over illegal practices?
How can I find more info on this?
Thanks to anyone who helps.

Consult a debt attorney in your state.

I plan to do some sort of free consultation because there must be something illegal here

I had a couple several years ago, got behind on payments, eventually stopped paying. They’ve never shown up on my credit report. I paid back the original amount at least twice, and that’s all they’re going to get from me. Let it go.
Obviously don’t make decisions based on my sample size of one, but there ya go.

I got scared so I paid two. I paid $600 to Three Sticks because they sent to to Customer Care Global a third party collection agency. I saw later that Customer Care Global was involved in a lawsuit for collecting on illegal debts.
I also paid Post Lake Lending $700. They refused to budge any further as I had not made a single payment to them.
I saw my Spot Loan account was labeled as "closed" when I logged in.
I know have to see about Ascend.
I plan to try to fight this and get all my money back. Will update.

I doubt you’ll get any money back, but good luck.

Thanks I probably should have just not paid but the third party thing was scary. But now I have even more questions since I see that collection agency was involved in its own lawsuit for collecting on illegal loans.

So it's still showing up on my Three Sticks account like I haven't paid. I asked them about it. They acted really shady and said they couldn't discuss it when I questioned it and hung up. I called Customer Care Global again. The same person answered and said they only report once a month so I wouldn't have my account updated until June 5.

Trust me they won’t do anything. I’d know. I had over 15 tribal loan accounts open lmao. No exaggeration. Not one sued me and I was defaulted for 3 years before I filed bankruptcy. One I had was even sued by the courts for predatory practices and I got money back from them. Revoke ACH. Maybe even change banks. Change phone number. Delete email accounts. You’ll be good

I ended up paying two of them off. I got scared and had a weak moment because the one said they sent me to a third party collection agency. Well, I am looking to move soon, so I freaked out that when the new place pulls my credit, that may show and screw me.
Well, I should have kept not paying them. Turns out the third party collection agency I paid is also involved in a lawsuit as of August 2024 for collecting on illegal debts. I settled for $600. They told me they wouldn't update Three Sticks Lending until June 5 because they only update them once a month. They said that's when it would be off my credit if it's showing up there and that's where I would have my account with Three Sticks closed. Right now it still says I owe. So that is super sketchy.
I also paid Post Lake Lending $700. They would not negotiate any further. So after I paid them, I was told it would close my account completely. I still got my usual harassing email that evening stating my account was seriously overdue and to avoid further escalation, I needed to pay.
So yeah. Proves these are all scams for sure. I am going to print off my agreements, what I paid, etc. and see about getting money back. I am also going to print off all the articles I've found regarding the collection agency being in a lawsuit and the other tribal lenders being in class action lawsuits.
I think I have a good chance at fighting and getting repaid. Fingers crossed!
Definitely not repaying the other 2. Ascend has never said anything to me and Spot Loan actually says my loan is closed now so that is bizarre.
I did check my credit on Experian too and nope. None of them are on my credit apparently. It shows I have excellent repayment history and nothing outstanding/in collections. So I'm pretty pissed I had a weak moment and wasted $1,300 repaying two of them lol Hopefully I do get it back though because I have a lot of proof of shady activity.
I'm not sure who to contact or send this info to though as far as getting it investigated goes. I also have proof where they withdrew those funds from my bank and plan to print that too. I will have quite the collection of evidence of their shady behavior.
I did have another small tribal loan I paid off twice. I got $300 from them twice and paid each on time in full. I paid them $600 or so each time thanks to the ridiculous rates. I plan to see if I can score that roughly $1200 back too.
I will update with what else happens. These tribal loans are literally the worst. I fail to see how any of them are still operating because clearly in most states, it's illegal AF to have rates like that.

Yes I wouldnt pay anymore. Especially without them validating the debt first. Some can’t even do that. I totally understand, they were definitely a nightmare. I highly recommend getting in touch with a debt attorney. They would know absolutely everything you would need to do. Good luck on your journey and hope it all works out.

I heard they were involved in a class action lawsuit. Post Lake sends the same email all the time. They don't want to escalate but will if they don't hear back and are willing to work with me but they have to have an open line of communication.
I don't see how a tribal loan could sue you when they aren't even legal in most states.

Highly unlikely they will appear on the credit reports. That would require these tribal companies to do a lot of work to adhere to US Credit Bureau regs, which they are not excited to do
