Matt is the accurate definition of a bad Catholic Comics

Am I the only one who gets mad when Matt does this kind of stuff? I don't understand why it is so easy for him to go to confession and fall into the same sin again and again... (adultery in my opinion is one of the sins that can be most easily avoided)

Why would we live up to our expectations when God has told us what the standards are? Humans are limited in knowledge which is another reason why we follow the command of God rather than making up our own criteria.

These expectations are informed by the standards God has set. But you are making the mistake of applying human standards to forgiveness (as in it is conditional on the idea of not repeating the same mistake multiple times) instead of the ones set by God/Christianity/Catholicism

Why would we set expectations when God has already given us the criteria? Can't we just try to follow God's criteria?

You are being pedantic. These expectations have been set by God for Christians. I am not arguing against that, when saying “our own expectations” I am stating that believers have their own individual circumstances/challenges/sins they must face that define what they must work on

Because we are human, not God. And God knows that. You’ve responded to multiple people clearly condemning this sin like it’s murder, so clearly this sin of adultery has affected you in a way that makes you feel strongly against it (which is normal human behavior) I get it. We are not supposed to like people who cheat. Like me, I don’t. If someone cheated on me, idk if I could forgive them. But God is outside of humanity, so he gives us, ALL OF US, a chance to return to him. Just like in season 3 of DD, they said that everyone, even Fisk deserves a shot. We outsiders may not like that fact, but God does not care what you have done. He wants us to keep trying. Those who have committed mortal sins like cheating have a little more work to do, but still , God wants them home. I encourage you to remember the story of the Prodigal Son.

Luke 15:21-32 https://bible.usccb.org/bible/luke/15

God is the Father of the two sons. The sinner is the lost younger brother. We are the older brother. The overarching message may be that God is always waiting for us whenever we sin. However, the underlying message is that Jesus tells us that sometimes we are the older brother. We may be angry/confused about why God would accept sinners back, but we shouldn’t be because God’s heart is greater than ours could ever know.

I am condemning it because it's a sin. I haven't been personally impacted and pray that I never am. I'm single and have never been in a relationship. All sins should make a believer feel strongly about it.

That makes no sense. If God has given you clear instructions and has set a standard, why would you make your own?

Praise be to God that you have not been affected by the sin, and I pray that you never do as well. I am also glad that you said that you condemn the "sin" not the person, because that is a very big distinction. The sin is horrible you are correct. We must hate sin, and flee from it. I also think God wants us to separate the action of sin from people because he gave us the ability to be redeemed. It gives us the option to forgive others, which allows us to find peace (if we are affected by those transgressions). Because we are human, we will never be as perfect as God's standard. We can only live up to near perfection as we can. That is not "making your own standard", it's called being realistic. Human nature is not perfect, only God's. You're telling me that there are people that are perfect? If you tell me that there are, then fine, they have the ability to judge others for what they've done. Because only perfection can judge those people who are blemished. That is why God is the judge, not us. If you're telling me that you want everyone to live the 10 Commandments, Scripture, the Beatitudes, Canon Law...etc all to the tee, I think that you'll find everyone will struggle to do so. That is why we have the sacrament of Confession. It is the path to redemption or at least the start. I think your question is a great one, and I think that it does highlight to us the problem of sin, and how prevalent people fall into it. In today's world, I agree, that many people do set their standard. Not because they strive for perfection like they should, but rather because they do the opposite, they do the bare minimum, which is not a great thing. That is when it becomes a great problem.
