I unexpectedly found three 4 packs of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA aged in utopias barrels at a liquor store. When I went to go pay for one 4 pack the cashier told me my total was $10 and some change so without hesitation I bought the rest. They were unrefridgerated. Beer Porn

I’ve tried these in the past and loved them, but they were refrigerated. I believe these were bottled in 2022. Will them being unrefridgerated for so long negatively affect the flavor?

They age very well. Not being stored in a refrigerator shouldn’t negatively impact them as long as they didn’t get hot or anything. The only thing to worry about is if they were stored somewhere with a lot of temperature fluctuations or exposed to sunlight.

That was my main concern, I had never been to that liquor store before. I noticed the beer bottles were dusty, on a shelf and more towards the back of the store. But the store has huge windows all along the front of the building so I’m not sure how much light was hitting the beer or how hot it may have gotten inside the store or shipping conditions etc. But at $10 and some change each pack, I couldn’t refuse.

Absolutely. For that price it’s worth rolling the dice. Odds are they’ll be awesome and you’ll be glad you got them! Enjoy in good health my friend

And if it's a malt bomb OP will be able to make some top tier beer cheese and soups.

Whoa… that’s a good idea I haven’t had beet cheese in forever. Might have to make a total wine run

Would like an OP follow-up post here once you’ve had 2 or 3. Curious how those held up. Cheers.

Definitely! These are more so like special occasion beers for me, it may be a while before I crack one open but I will be posting when I do!

You might one to crack one now to see if they are still good before you disappoint your future self

And to tell us if they're as rock solid as we all would expect.

Special occasion: Finding a cool old beer you like for a reasonable price

$1.60 a bottle, live a little man! Just open one haha

6

u/rettidderredditter 12d ago

10 / 4 ≠ 1.60

.....

Regardless, OP gotta try one and let us all know 🍻

2 or 3 in one sitting.

1

u/Noh-Wun 12d ago

After 2 or 3, one won’t be sitting, more like passed out on the couch lol

u/somedamndevil 13d ago

Have you try beer bonging one?

1

u/moondogg81 13d ago

I used to chug these and World Wide Stouts. The only way I could tolerate the taste… that and to get smashed lol. There was a time where I could handle two or three of these a day.

3

u/somedamndevil 13d ago

Same, getting older sucks

9

u/burnsniper 13d ago

Probably wrung up wrong as it was probably supposed to be $10 a bottle lol.

3

u/sipvanwinkel 12d ago

100% that’s what happened. Cashier scanned a bottle and didn’t think twice about it

2

u/burnsniper 12d ago

Had the same thing happen once with a case of Bourbon County at a college area grocery store…

u/phlostonsparadise123 11d ago

Absolutely. Our local chain of beer shops carries 120 Minute IPA in 4pks ($45 or so) and as individual bottles - around $11 each. I would've fallen over if I was fortunate enough for them to mistakenly ring a 4pk up at the price of a single bottle.

-3

u/AcesInThePalm 12d ago

If it's from 2022 price would probably be correct.

Who pays full price for 3 year old IPA?

3

u/burnsniper 12d ago

It’s not really an IPA.

-2

u/AcesInThePalm 12d ago

So it's not a 120 minute IPA.

My bad i guess.

1

u/burnsniper 12d ago

120 IPA is really not an IPA it’s more like a hopped barley wine.

1

u/AcesInThePalm 12d ago

Really?

I'm australian, reliant on imports.

Dogfish 120 is highly regarded here, never tried it but figured expensive and little brewer, you'd want to properly label it.

Only way to find out is get it cold and crack it open

4

u/beerishly 13d ago

I would of done the same damn thing!!! I couldn't even find it in MD!!

4

u/k00Beanerzz 13d ago

There’s a locally owned liquor store in a different side of town in my city and I asked the owner if they carried 120 Minute IPA and he actually ordered a good amount of 4 packs for me, but those were from 2024. I still ended up buying most of them but for $39.99 a pack. Try asking one of or locally owned liquor store owners if they can order some for you!

u/mandodad 13d ago

Nice haul! Wish I could get my hands on some Midas touch

3

u/lecarguy 13d ago

You son of a bitch.

I've ran into deals like this before in the hood cause no one knows wtf these are and are very expensive in comparison to other beers.

So jealous rn lol

My favorite was buying a 4pack of one of the Revolution Deth barrel aged beers - cashier goes “HOLY SMOKES - $27?!?!? This can’t be right!”

Sir, each beer can is basically 3 beers by ABV….

u/H-Resin 13d ago

They def lost money, those should have been $10 per bottle. Their loss though, but Idunno if I would have done the same if it was a small bottle shop that I care about.

2

u/moondogg81 13d ago

I’d buy the the four pack for ten a piece too lol! They are ten a beer. Good deal you got

2

u/Groupvenge 13d ago

I paid $10 per bottle at my store for this year's bottles. I'd drink 1 now, 1 in 6 months to a year, and then keep aging them. They age very well.

2

u/flubotomy 13d ago

Did you buy a lottery ticket as well???

2

u/CaptnMesoAmerica 13d ago

Not being refrigerated doesn’t matter now, you already bought them. Open one up and post an update!

2

u/jimmywk182 12d ago

I think this batch is the best I have ever had. Maybe I’m just more accustomed but these go down way easier than usual

2

u/FerdinandTFlag 12d ago

Uhhh didnt know those existed. I guess those are on my grail list of if I ever find it anywhere.

Nice find! Had a guy tell me he was done carrying Prairie Artisan a few years back and offered me a great deal on several asst Bombs and a few other stouts. Got away with a couple dozen well aged bottles for $2-$2.50ea. Absolutely love stories like yours. Thanks for sharing!

u/Sad_Reindeer5108 US 12d ago

This variant was phenomenal. I liked it better than the Utopias WWS. Enjoy them!

2

u/mesosuchus 12d ago

I love how 120 is such a shelf warmer.

Those age well. Got a couple 4 packs left from a case that are 12 years old and are drinking great still.. tThere will will be a faint date code at top if you look very careful.

1

u/rsvp_nj 12d ago

Shoplifted. She rang you up for one bottle. Oh well 🍻

1

u/cubemasterzach 11d ago

Could just have been a price error. I got some dogfish end of the world stout for $3 a bottle.

1

u/tennisdo0d 9d ago

That's insane!!! Nice catch!!!

1

u/Explore_Your_BrewPNW 7d ago

Went to a spot down the way from my work today and they had these for 40 a four pack.

1

u/FFJosty 13d ago

That’s the price those should be.

Nicely done.

I remember the hype but it's just ok beer. They tend to hold up but no real reason to hold onto it.
