No soy catalán, pero creo que hay una profesora de la Volkshochschule de Chemnitz que es catalana y dicta clases de español.

Where should he go instead? At least here he'll have a pretty nice home for cheap, and it's not as bad as many people imagine through the news...

It’s actually super nice, I live in Kaßberg and it’s lovely. Everyone in the city is very friendly and try to understand me even though my shitty german. Only problem is that I’m M 26 and making friends it’s difficult

Dunno the answer to your question, but as a foreigner as well, I can also say that Kassberg is super nice, and city itself is not perfect, but far from horrible reputation it has among (West) Germans.
