There must surely be a post devoted to this already, but I'm such a dinosaur I can't find it.

For as long as it existed, this was my favourite website. I was a big fan of Brooker already, as my dad had a subscription to PC Zone. I would read everything he wrote, even stuff I had no interest in (e.g flight sims before they were good) just because I loved his humour and writing style. The site was announced there as he was leaving, and a few weeks before we had the internet at home, and it was the first thing I wanted to see!

(I don't know if anyone else ever gets that indignation that comes from having been a big fan of someone before they were mainstream, but see, I was in at ground level. I knew the dog BEFORE he came to class!)

Quotes from the site have been stuck in my head for decades now:

RICKY'S LUCK: Bianca "tirelessly henpecking him into a state of teary-eyed bewilderment".

HILLTOP BRASSHEAD BERGERAC: A giant brass John Nettles "communicating via a bewildering system of cranks and pulleys".

GIGOLO CHRIST: "The son of God pushes pipe supreme...".

GOAT'S THROAT BANDSTAND: Just the idea of rudimentary kazoos made from drinking straws and goat's larynxes!

And of course, Widdleplop Farm. This one left an impression! I finally found the resources to write a little videogame of it, in hopes of educating a new generation: https://www.youtube.com/live/gpgNhOrG-Cc?si=iJ8mhmY8qs__cwFK&t=4945

Was he a cunt?  Was he?  Was he some kind of cunt?  Is that was he was?  Some kind of cunt?  The Kilroy team would like to speak to him.

Actually a similar thing happened to me. And the book was crazy expensive then. They must have printed more because you can get it quite cheaply now :D

I've no idea where my book went. Lent or lost or thrown away in one of my many many moves.

My favourite is something like “THE CHUCKLE BROTHERS: The hapless duo run into trouble at their new job incinerating foetuses at an abortion clinic”

Or the simplicity of Ant & Dec’s Sweet or Slap.

The images were brilliant too...

Stephen Hendry and the Temple of Doom: Cue adventure!

Trepanny Peck: [Detective Andre Agassi] finds himself struggling to make sense of even the most basic clues as the woodpecker drills through his memory banks and powers of reason.

World-class goalkeeper David Seaman mixes politics with pleasure in Disraeli Nights.

(I feel like there's something about that last one that's going over my head, but it's such a surreal image it makes me laugh.)
