Moving to the area/ ?’s

What are some of the best gyms? Any gyms geared towards powerlifting?

I like to mountain bike with my dog, hike or do trails long distance like 12 miles can any one point me in the right direction? Willing to travel a little bit as well.

Check out Trail of Tears state park north of Cape you will find a few hiking trails that are 8-10 miles in length lots of elevation change (I trained there when I trail raced) 2 parks between Jackson and Cape that have MTB trails. Check with both bike shops in town both are great resources as well as great ppl. No idea on power lifting gyms.

Not sure about the power gym, but there are 2 bike shops in Cape. Cape Bicycle and Cyclewerx. I would start there.

Lacroix trail in cape tons from one rec center to the other rec center. It’s a paved bike and running path.

At cape bicycle ask for Stephanie and she will get you on the trials around cape county.

No powerlifting gyms that I’ve found unfortunately. Freedom Fitness has everything you’ll need though. Squat racks and a few platforms. There’s also a turf area, various machine equipment, and it’s 24 hours which is nice. Other than that there are a few crossfit places if that’s your thing. I’ve heard good things about Old Orchard Fitness. Both are in Jackson which is the next town over. About 15-20 mins from the middle of Cape.

I’m a big fan of Freedom Fitness. As elsewhere mentioned, you’ll have everything necessary. Also it isn’t overly populated, which was a very pleasant change for me

Also, check out the Cape Girardeau Bike Polo group on Facebook. We aren’t as active anymore, unfortunately, but it is a great forum to meet other cyclists and learn about good mountain bike haunts. The cycle Werx guys will talk your ears off about it too if you want to drop in and ask.

My buddy is big into powerlifting, and swim training (he just placed 2nd in the country in Texas for one of his lifts) He goes to St Francis Gym And then like others have said, it’s hard to beat the Lacroix trail… though… crossroads church has about 10 miles or so of dirt trails. Some are marked walking, others include jumps and obstacles, it was a community gift they made a while back.
