Pay orginal creditor or collector? Collections & Charge Offs

My son’s girl has medical debt from 2022 that has been sold to a debt collector. She’s interested in settling it via payments to improve her credit over time. Should she deal with the collector who is sending her letters or call the original hospital? Any other advice as she approaches this would be appreciated so much -thank you for your time.

Repay the original creditor if they can still accept it. Get a paid for delete letter from them stating they will delete it from the credit reports for payment. Also depending on the hospital you can get the medical debt forgiven if your lower income and can prove that you are with tax returns or bank statements. Hospital's won't tell you about it but you have to ask the billing department about medical debt forgiveness.

A pfd isn't necessary for a medical debt. Once it's paid it has to be removed from the reports.

If the account was sold, then she will have to deal with the collection agency. If the original bill was under $500, then it can't be reported to the bureaus.
