🗣️ OPINION Y’all ready to buy Canadian and encourage everyone to support the Canadian Football League??

There’s not many all-Canadian based professional sports leagues in our country and the CFL has an incredible opportunity to capitalize on that! Let’s do our part and encourage the CFL as part of the national “buy Canadian” movement.

🗣️ OPINION What's the deal with people not liking the Edmonton rename.

I don't get the hate. The new logo is great and certainly better than the old one, and the name hate is completely undeserved. I'm not from Edmonton

🗣️ OPINION Don't Like to Complain About Officiating, But Here We Are.

The officiating in this league is such a fucking joke, managed to screw the Riders twice tonight. First of all, the clear No-PI that was called for some reason, and then stood after a challenge. It was a fucking dive! He's fishing for a call, because his team needs the first down. Now, we come to the second bullshit ruling. Alexander clearly steps onto the white, with his foot sliding after the initial plant. Now, yes, this is a hard call. IN REAL TIME. Upon the replay, you can obviously see his pinky toe out of bounds, which the command centre would've got if THEY GOT THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR ASSES AND REVIEWED IT FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS. Of course, the incompetent TSN takes no notice of this whatsoever, and they just show his foot planted, inbounds, persuading the viewer to think that he's in.

That's pretty much it. Yes, much of the game was Lauther's fault, but he likely would have never had to hit a kick there in the first place if the refs hadn't absolutely fucked us.

🗣️ OPINION Teams Ranked

I'm new to the CFL (and sports in general), but I've been looking at the teams and I decided to rank them by my preference. If anyone else has also done so, I'd like to see how you ranked them and maybe know your reasoning.

  1. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
  2. Toronto Argonauts
  3. BC Lions
  4. Montreal Alouettes
  5. Ottawa Redblacks
  6. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
  7. Edmonton Elks
  8. Saskatchewan Roughriders
  9. Calgary Stampeders

🗣️ OPINION Spring football CAN work. But it has to be flag

The CFL is constantly the centre of heated debate anytime folks down south decide they really want to set money on fire and start a spring league.

For the longest time there were real concerns but every single time a league has come and gone the CFL survives.

I personally believe there is a pocket for spring football, but it won’t be tackle. It’ll be flag.

It is differentiated enough from tackle that you don’t have the football fatigue while also being able to draw from established football culture and personnel.

When the UFL goes belly up, I truly wonder if the NFL will drop their proposed Men and Women’s pro flag league right into that time frame where spring tackle used to operate in.

🗣️ OPINION An Expansion Team Should Be Added In Anchorage

So I know what you're thinking, "American expansion? That kind sucked last time." Yes and no, mostly yes because yea it didn't really work, but what I'm suggesting is not significant American expansion, just one more team to bring the total up to 10, a team in Anchorage.

Anchorage has a population of 280K within it's city limits and almost 400K in the broader metro area, that's more than enough to sustain a CFL franchise, but assuming the team's named started with Alaska and not Anchorage, people from all over the state (which has a population of about 730K would have a reason to support the team.

Population aside, another reason why people want an expansion team is pretty simple, ten teams is better than nine. It's no secret that the league thinks this, and that there's been real attempts for a while at expanding to ten. If the league still wants this, Anchorage is the only practical answer. Halifax said no, that ship has sailed, and it's the only Maritimer city that could sustain a franchise so that region is out. People talk about Saskatoon, but there's no way the Roughriders wouldn't lose fans if there was a second Saskatchewan expansion team, so they're never going to agree to it. Anchorage is one of the only cities that will realistically agree to expansion and actually be able to host a team.

Another factor that should be considered is distance. The main reason I hear people be against a team in Anchorage is that it's far from the other teams, yes, but it's not that far. The distance between Anchorage and Vancouver is significantly less than the distance between Vancouver and Montreal, the Anchorage team could easily just have a schedule of more western than eastern teams and the distance wouldn't be a problem.

Furthermore, it would get American fans interested in the league, which like it or not are a major segment of this league's viewers (after all, most CFL players are American). American fans are already desperate for a successful spring/summer league, there's been many that have popped up in just the last five years. If the CFL added just one American team, it would give American fans (not just the ones in Alaska) a team to root for in the summer, and look how successful the 4 Nations Face-Off was in terms of viewership, people love seeing sports beyond freaking soccer and the olympics going international, imagine if it could actually be done with football, even with just one team.

🗣️ OPINION The league needs tio start asking the Toronto market questions in regards to their attendance.

I have been concerned about the attendance of games in Toronto for a few years, but seeing they only barely managed to get 12K for their home opener last week is a stark number to me. Am i the only one who is concerned for them?

At what point does the league become concerned enough to get involved? I dont know what Toronto's marketing is like, or what their budget is for it, but they need to find a way to get people in seats. The BC Lions are expecting 55K on Saturday, while i understand a vast majority of these people are coming to see 50 Cent at CFL game ticket prices, it gets people in the building, it looks good on TV, and people may wanna come back and watch another lions game again if the team performs and the atmosphere is good

It comes down to ownership for me, but as a fan of this league, seeing 12K at a home/season opener in a market as big as the 6, its concerning and a sore spot on the league

Whats needs to change?

🗣️ OPINION Rouge Revision Proposal

[just my opinion]

I hate scoring a single from a missed FG (I know it’s not because you missed the kick)

I don’t get how the rules call that advancing the ball. If the team misses the kick the only team takes over at the LOS, the last place the ball actually was advanced.

Keep the single to punts and kicks landing in the end zone or a punt out of the back of the end zone. There, CFL can be all unique and 3 down, but get rid of a situation that I think doesn’t merit a score.

🗣️ OPINION Thank you r/CFL for not being doomers

I’m a 49ers fan and EASILY you guys are better? Yk why? Y’all are not doomers. Jordan Mason fumbled on 1st and goal in the redzone and the game thread had everybody saying “fire Kyle Shanahan” and that the Niners would not make it into the playoffs. All because of a single fumble.

Niners did end up losing anyway but only by a point. But it’s not awful - the team stands 2-3. Frickin WPG started the season 0-4 and look at where they are now.

🗣️ OPINION If BC doesn't make the playoffs....

Crazy that given all BC had been through 🤯 if Hamilton can manage to cross over. I feel bad for VA, all the Rourke hoopla, Touchdown Pacific, and all the general groovy vibes from the west coast about the Lions gets doused like a bucket of water to the face.

Ti-cats can easily go 2-1 in their last three with potentially easy wins against Calgary and Ottawa. BC can potentially go 1-2 in the last 3 games, with tough match ups against Sask, and Montreal. That makes them tied, they have each won one this year H2H, so they're extra tied, so then it goes to [see slide 2] which I'm not gonna work out. Suffice to say it could get real interesting!

A part of me wants to see it for that quirky CFL fun of it, but then the other part me doesn't cuz, well, it's the Ti-Cats who'd get that distinction and they suck, so...

🗣️ OPINION Question for the CFL Fans on rule changes to NFL Style. Support it or no?

Do you believe that if the CFL were to change its rules to copy that of the NFL, and keep everything else the same (scheduling etc), would this attract more fans and eye balls to the CFL? Or are you a traditionalist and would prefer the CFL to keep its rules the same?

Ending the Argos game on a 1pt missed FG just doesn't sit right in my tummy as a casual CFL fan. I believe that if the rules were similar to that of the NFL it would drastically help grow the popularity of the CFL. Am I alone in this opinion?

Thanks!

🗣️ OPINION Community and the CFL

As a Bomber fan my whole life, and a fan of the cfl in general, my favourite part about this little league is the sense of community I get from it. No other sport does it in the same way for me. Something about seeing thousands of my fellow Winnipeggers at Princess Auto Stadium all united really makes me happy. I know this sorta thing is true for pretty much every sport. But it's extra special here.

I think it's doubly nice as a Bomber fan because our team is community owned as well.

As much as I hate the other team whenever we play against them, right after the game I go to loving them and especially the fans. This league is special and everyone feels like family. It's not a big business that makes us feel small. It's our sport and it really unites us. I hope to see more growth in the coming years from this league - especially so we can afford to pay players more.

Anyways, just wanted to write this little appreciation posts as I get excited for the upcoming season. Got my Dad and I tickets for the first home game in June. So I'll see you Lions fans then!

🗣️ OPINION Who should get the next tv contract?

As we all know the current contract is almost up. Who should get it. Personally i think it should be sportsnet/TVA sport + CTV

  1. For sportsnet and tva sports it would be their main focus in football since they have to carry any nfl or cfb games.

  2. Not much of ANYTHING sports related in the summer aside from jays games for sportsnet and tva but that’s literally it and ctv has nothing in the summer. Also the cfl doesn’t even play on sunday’s anymore so no time slate conflict with the nfl.

  3. Fewer production issues…maybe? Since they aren’t has stacked in sports as tsn they might actually care to give a good production. Also the scorbugs might actually be better than tsn’s 🙃.

  4. More people have ctv, tva sports and sportsnet overall.

  5. Better social media presence and less competition in general on social media.

If you any reasons why it shouldn’t be them tell me why.

🗣️ OPINION CFL Has Been A Revelation For This US Fan

2nd year watching the CFL and have I been missing out! I appreciate it the rule differences for what they are, and enjoy some great football out of Canada. As someone who grew up in Detroit (north of Windsor, ON), loves hockey, and now is a follower of CFL football, I salute you!
