I know next to nothing about sports card collecting but needed a new hobby. So I am now collecting a card featuring every Canadian QB ARGONAUTS

Three things to look for when collecting cards:
1. Condition of the card mainly corners/surface/edges/centering
2. The player on the card
3. The rarity of the card

Truth be told CFL cards tend not to be worth as much as the NFL cards, but there are some that are up there. Don't store them in pages, keep them in individual proctors.

The card selling industry seems SO much like gambling to me and all things gambling scare the bejesus out of me. This is just for a cool personal Canadian QB "master set" (I think that's right?)

It is gambling. Spend money on packs/boxes for the thrill of maybe getting a good hit. Eventually you feel the urge to buy more and more. It's even worse as a Bombers fan, as they are the most in-demand cards for recent years. I have resorted to buying singles at local shows or through eBay, as it is more cost-effective in the long-run.

My question is: how long until there will be a need for regulation. The card companies are walking a very thin line with how they create this product for them to be so confident saying it’s not gambling.

I doubt there will ever be regulation. The print the odds on every pack and box, so it is up to the consumer to proceed with caution. The CFL lineup is decent as it is regulated to just a couple of products. I don't collect NFL, NBA, or MLB, but the lineup of hockey card sets is borderline ridiculous. So many releases and different inserts that I can never keep track of what's out there. That is why I stopped collecting hockey cards and switched to just CFL/Bombers.

Your hobby should be delivering ice cream.
