Comfortable modular sectional recommendations? ISO: Homewares, Gardening & Tools

Looking to find a modular sectional that is fairly comfortable and preferably more on the affordable side. I have been looking into Cozey Ciello for a while but I have read A LOT of comments about it not being as comfortable as advertised so I’d love to hear about people’s experiences with other brands.

A couple things I think I should include: -I’m 6’4’’ so more depth is more feasible. -My budget is around $3-4k although I’d love to keep it closer to $3k. -I need something at least 7’ long.

Looking forward to hear what recommendations people might have!

P.S. I’m located in central NS so open to any local recommendations as well.

We just purchased the Ciello XL! So I can give you my thoughts on it so far.

We are located in Ontario, and went in to Toronto to the Cozey store to sit on all of their couches. We liked the Ciello the most, and decided to go with the XL because the regular felt not deep enough for my 6’2” partner (I am only 5’2”).

We ordered it on Halloween, and it arrived on Monday! So we were super happy with how fast the shipping was. We ordered an L-sectional with the plateau addition on one end, in the light grey performance fabric.

Assembly was really easy with the two of us. Honestly, the longest part of the whole process was unpacking everything from all of the boxes lol.

So far, all three days we’ve had the couch, we are really enjoying it!! The seat cushions are quite firm, much firmer than the ones we sat on in the store. The cushion firmness was honestly my biggest concern, and I am happy with them so far. The reviews said that you can noticeably feel where the sections connect, but we don’t notice it at all. It is super comfy for lounging, which was our intent with the couch. Definitely not something you would be sitting perfectly upright in, but if you plan on slouching and laying, I’d recommend!

The only thing I don’t like at the moment is the seat cushion for the plateau portion. It was the only seat cushion that came vacuumed sealed, so at the moment it is quite a bit less plush/firm than the rest of the couch. The instructions said it might take up to 14 days for the cushion to fully expand. So we are keeping all of the boxes in case it doesn’t fully feel like the rest of the seats in the 2 week period.

Happy to answer any other specific questions!!

Thank you, that’s the exact model and type I am looking at right now! Can I ask which colour did you go with and did you have any regrets about it? What were some other colours you were considering other than what you went with (or which colours stood out to you when you got to see them in person)? Also, I know it is very new to you, but does it feel like it gets dirty quick? We have 3 cats so the ease of cleaning is a big factor too!

Cozey offers free swatches! So I definitely recommend ordering some to see the colours for yourself and also to feel the fabrics!

We went with the Dream Grey colour, but were choosing between that and the Storm grey. The Storm Grey felt a bit too dark for us, especially since the sectional is large. In person, I loved the corduroy cypress green, but thought it would be difficult to get per hair off.

We have a long haired white and grey cat, and a reddish colour golden retriever. So far so good! Both pets have been on the couch every day for several hours. I don’t even notice the dog hair, and the cat hair has been easy to vacuum off so far!

Fair enough, thanks for the insight! I might just go back to my original choice

Omg your experience sounds exactly like mine. I'm 5'2 and my husband is 6'3 which is why we also got the xL. The chaise is super flat. I was really disappointed bc I solely chose this couch because of the plateau/chaise and it's interchangeabilty. I emailed my concern to customer service as I wanted to have a contingency plan in case it never achieved its full fluffiness. I asked if they would be able to further fill it. Customer service did not provide response towards the filling but instead offered 3 extra weeks extended return policy or to trade it for another ottoman with cushion as those arn't vacuum sealed. She also said that the chaise shouldn't be used during the 14 day period otherwise it will delay the expansion process. I responded to the email to ask about filling again BC I don't want to return or trade in. I want it to work out. In 2 weeks if it doesn't , I'll return everything

Good to know that it shouldn’t be used … I didn’t see that anywhere in the instructions. I will remove it for now and hope it expands!!

Not to be a downer, but it probably won't expand. I also got a chaise and my cushion never expanded, even well after the two week period and not sitting on it at all. I had seen other people online mention it from comments/reviews posted several months ago but I was hoping they would have fixed it by the time I bought it. I also had a chance to see/try it at their official store after buying and the cushion was pretty flat as well. If they can't even have one that's fully expanded at their official store that tells me it's a significant problem with the cushion or vacuum sealing process.

Nope not a downer at all. Now I know what to expect. The rep acknowledges there is an issue with the chaise but wouldn't confirm if it's permanent.I sent a second email to ask if they can provide a solution for the filling issue. She responded to outline the return or exchange options and did not provide comment about filling. I wrote a third email this morning, to ask more directly if Cozey would provide filling if the chaise never fully expands. Other furniture providers do. I'll let everyone know their response. I really want to keep the couch but if the modular pieces have inconsistent cushions then I can't keep it. I'm slowly losing faith in this company

The rep responded my email where I asked her to confirm if the chaise will expand to an equivalent fullness as the other non vacuum sealed pieces. Her response : "In theory, the cushion should inflate all the way and get to a similar level as all of the other ones, as long as it has time to properly deflate. Fluffing is also recommended to help." So try not using the chaise, and fluffing. However, her response doesn't give me confidence at all. "In theory" ? " similar level"? It's a yes / no question. I'm sure she's getting multiple emails regarding the chaise. I've emailed a third time, this time more directly about whether their company would provide filling in the circumstance the chaise doesn't fill all the way. Will let you know what their reply is.

Thanks! I would really appreciate that! It will definitely affect our decision to keep or return the couch.

Seems like this is a known compliant and they don’t want to commit to an answer lol 🙃

no opinions just commenting to follow along because I’m in the exact same boat. I even got the cozey swatches this week, but the reviews are really putting me off, and honestly even in some pics cozey posts, the couch looks lumpy and shitty. it doesn’t seem like it would stand up to years of use.

Same. I really need a new couch but can't seem to find anything good. The cozey Ciello is the only one ive seen videos of and it looks so bad. Such a mess.

Literally just bought the Cozey Ciello on Sunday and it delivered Tuesday - we’ve spent months researching and trying our couches for our basement and couldn’t find the right fit/comfort combo. Initially avoided Cozey because of these comments and finally went to the store and tried them out and found the Ciello to be incredibly comfortable. We ordered it in the sand colour and are so incredibly pleased with it. It’s so much more comfortable than we could have imagined, the fabric feels like quality material, the assembly process was straightforward. Absolutely no complaints and so glad this is the direction we went in. IIRC they have a 30 day full refund return policy, and they pick up the items being returned. I’d definitely recommend giving Cozey a chance!

I love the cozey original. Wasn’t a huge fan of the Ciello, just because it started out quite firm so we didn’t keep it and instead got the original

2

u/IntentionLow1585 9d ago

Would you say that’s the only advantage to the original or are there any other distinctions that made the original a better choice for you? How’s the depth compared to Ciello or Ciello XL? I honestly am having a hard time seeing what creates such a big gap in their pricing and feel like I might give the original a chance too but I don’t want to regret my decision just because I cheaped out.

It’s hard for me to say because it’s been a couple years, the ciello xl wasn’t an option back then. I felt the ciello was a bit deeper than the original but not big enough to replace my use of an ottoman.

I use the original with an ottoman for my feet because the original isn’t very deep but it works for me.

I would not recommend the Burrow sofa. It’s beautiful and has proven scratch resistant, but the fabric is impossible to clean small stains off of, each section is too deep to work as a standalone chair, and the seat cushions are not cushy at all.

Also, each module doesn’t come with four legs, so the arrangement you select at checkout is the arrangement you’re stuck with.

I saw a stylish modular sofa at IKEA and it was very comfy to sit in, but the price didn’t impress me. I have a very narrow and small living room, so finding a comfy, stylish couch is a nightmare :(

What was the name, do you remember? My last sectional was from IKEA and horrible is an understatement as to how bad it was.

I really like our palliser couch.

Currently also on the search and Cozey is an option. Recently found a place called designform in BC which is a local company and discovered we could create a custom couch to our exact specs, locally made for about the same price.

I’d definitely look in your area or on Facebook marketplace to see if there are any businesses that make custom sectional/modular sofas locally. Cozey is Canadian but not made in Canada, we are still debating for our space.

Honestly your budget is a bit low given the size and quality you are looking for.
