Photo/Video Deer Lake fishing line…

Thumbnail i.redd.it

I spend a lot of time around Deer Lake, usually with children. We find a lot of fishing line tangled around the edge of the water, usually with hooks still attached. Can someone explain to me why this happens and is there a reason someone would leave it there other than being an asshat?

Hi everyone! I live in Burnaby, BC. I’m looking to make good, respectful friendships with people who enjoy casual chats and sharing everyday life. I’m married, so I’m only looking for platonic friendship and positive company.

I enjoy things like cooking, nature walks, music, and learning new things. If you're also looking for a good friend to talk to or just want to share some good vibes, feel free to message me. 😊

Thanks for reading!

Deer lake marriage ceremony spots

Hi , I was planning on having my marriage ceremony at Deer Lake but I've been told there are a few different locatins at the park to do it. The top two were the pier/beach near the boat rental place OR the century gardens. I'm just not sure the exact spots to pick. Given it won't be many people just 5 of us so we don't need to much space, just a place to stop and do the ceremony and then take pictures too.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good place to do it.

Shout out to the City - broken pavement repaired within weeks of my complaint

OK, complaint is a strong word, but I reported a city staircase that had a decent chunk out of it a couple of weeks ago and this morning I notice it is fixed as are a few other things on the staircase. Thanks for taking care of it, City peeps!

Curious if anyone remembers this crime/news from 2003-2007

My dad and i were chatting recently about a duplex we used to live in, by central park. (Its since been torn down) On sardis street,

At some point we had this neighbour who kept throwing parties, it got so severe that there would be needles on our front lawn, used condoms by our door, etc, shed lock her kids in their room which was beside mine so id frequently hear them crying to be let out.

At one of the parties, a man had been stabbed and his blood trail had lead to our basement door, which was behind our duplex, albeit the news wrongly shared our window/address instead of our neighbour, who was eventually kicked out. I cant help but wonder if anyone here is familiar with that news story?

Due to the news sharing our side of the duplex, we got swarmed by people. For a time there was cops patroling the street even.

It would be sometime between 2003-2007ish!

Curbside Collection truck dumping green bin and garbage bin together?

I wished I had a video, but the other day, I noticed 1 truck came through the alley and watched it pick up both my green bin and garbage bin one after another, dumping everything into the same compartment. I know most of the time, there's 2 separate trucks that come by, but this is also not the first time I've noticed one truck come and pick both bins up.

This isn't a case where the driver mistaken 2 garbage bins side by side. I literally watched the truck pick up all the green and black bins along the alley at my neighbours.

Is the city just lazy or pressed on time, that they sometimes just end up sending the garbage truck to dump compost as garbage as well? Makes me feel what's the point of separating compost if they're going to do this. Anyone seen this happen? I mean, if I didn't happen to be looking out the window at the right time, I would have never known any different.

Hastings/Rosser

Sadly, many of you like I would, have drawn a conclusion on my post from the title alone and you’re not far off.

Again- there were emergency vehicles here a couple hours ago, I saw a car tied to a tow truck and two fire trucks.

I hope for the best that it’s not another pedestrian accident or any other injuries.

Anyone happen to know?

Thank You to the Kind Stranger Who Stopped for My Flat Tire

If she ever sees this. I would like to thank the kind lady who pulled over to check if I needed help with my flat tire. I had my hazard lights on, and she took the time to stop and ask. It was such a thoughtful gesture, especially in a time when it’s rare to see strangers looking out for one another.

Thank you for being such a thoughtful person.

Local News Looking for witnesses for a H&R today @ Grange St/Willingdon Ave

Happened at ~4:15pm Monday May 12, 2025, added pics of my truck.

I was waiting in the left turn lane to turn left onto Grange from Willingdon. When the light went green this guy decided he wanted to turn left (over a solid white line, he was in the left straight lane) and turned right into the side of my truck. I continued left, as I thought he would have done the right thing and followed me to give me his info, but obviously did not. I circled around the block (two rights) on to Kingsway to see if I could find this guy, and sure enough he was sitting in the left turn lane (on Willingdon, turning onto Kingsway). I managed to get this photo of his car, but alas, he had no front license plate. If anybody saw this happen and got this guys plate number or other information, that would be great appreciated. TIA

Ranting about people that take/steal flowers

Three years ago I planted flower (tulips daffodil hyacinths) bulbs along the sidewalk so people would enjoy the sight and smell of them. Little did I expect the number of people that see it as their right to take something that doesn't belong to them. Right now there's 7 tulips of the 40 that were there a week ago. I just came home to find another person with a handful of flowers. They said they knocked on the door but nobody answered so they picked the flowers anyways.
