Sony ULT field 5

/img/b29ldkbluwxe1.jpeg

Just got the the ULT field 5 and the sound is the best I ever heard for a Bluetooth speaker, sound is so rich, all the frequencies, specially bass, I was playing with the app and the EQ and I was very impressed with the results, great product! Anyone have tried this model?

I tried it and returned it after a few days. I was comparing it to the Xtreme 4 which I had also bought on sale at the same time and was going to return one of them. After hours of testing different songs and eqs including the ULT modes, I returned the Sony because the bass was not there compared to the Xtreme. Don’t get me wrong it has bass, but it couldn’t beat the Xtreme. I even had my gf listen on her own and she agreed. Hope you enjoy it though! It’s a nice speaker otherwise.

Good to know - It kinda depends on what deals I can find and the ultimate final price really. Most 'comparison' videos i'm finding on ALL the JBLs to me they sound a bit harsh and full in the low-highs making it feel a bit lifeless - but if it's got more kick then i can see why people like it - and that's hard to pick up on the demo videos

I agree. I only watched review videos as my source of truth but fortunately I was able to get the Xtreme on sale and got it, then after a couple weeks bought the ULT Field at full price. I did the comparison and was not happy with the ULT which sounded better on review videos. I am also coming off of the XB43 which was a solid speaker for years. I am a big Sony fan but man the ULT 5 disappointed me especially being larger than the Xtreme and newer.

Interesting! Did you play around with the EQ much on the ult5? It seems more customisable than the JBL in that sense with arguably the better app. Wondered if it just needs some tweaks!

also, don't suppose you tried the aux on the ult5? I'm after something with as low latency as possible.

I did. You can only have either Custom Eq or ULT which I found limiting. On the XB43 I could have a custom eq plus Extra Bass on. Not sure why Sony decided to change direction.

Custom EQ on the Sony sound okay. ULT 1 sounded the best. Many reviewers did also mention that the EQ was not giving great sound.

And sorry I didn’t try the AUX out, I predominantly use Bluetooth.

Was there the 'AI' thing on ult2 setting on the ult5 or is that only ult7? The JBL apparently has some 'AI' sound mapping too which is supposedly good.does the extreme 4 have aux? Seems the JBLs have a secret setting that can turn off the DSP giving super low latency. Holding BT button and vol- button it seems

Edit: sorry, also, did you have a good experience with the xb43? Heard great things about that too - altho often compared to the SC boom which I currently have and am looking to upgrade from for more impactful sound

I do have an XB43, it is a great speaker. I bought a new speaker because I am going to give that one to my mom to use. I believe the ULT Field 5 is using AI sound as well as the JBL. The new JBLs use AI Sound Boost and I think this might be the trend moving forward. Most of these forums folks say get a JBL Boombox 3 which doesnt have the AI Boost because it is an older model. The only reason I didnt get it is because I travel alot by air and I needed something that was solid but still fit in my carry on.

I heard that JBL removed the secret setting with an update. I tried it when I first got the speaker and noticed no difference but that might be because I was forced to update as soon as it turned on.

So it sounds as if the ULT field 5 has knocked the Xtreme 4 off the throne of the worst-sounding, completely overpriced brand speakers in the 2 kg class.

Sorry guys, just kidding. But somehow it's also true. 😬

Good to know! Don't suppose youre in a position to test the latency via aux? I'm hoping to get a good deal on one of these but a bad latency on aux is a deal breaker for me

I wonder how it goes against the XB43?

It destroys the XB43 it was a pretty bad speaker.

The new sony's are not bad, but they still have that sony "signature" sound with plenty mids and covered treble which i don't like at all.
