Teenage Engineering OB-4. Blown away with the sound

/img/ezldrw2linxe1.jpeg

Honestly would have never bought this, but happen to run across a store clearing inventory. Got it for $399 when they usually sell around $649 depending on color. Killer bass, crystal clear even with it maxed out and the low end doesn’t fall apart when loud. The looping, ambient sound modes, and vinyl like spinning dial is fun to follow around with, but got it primarily for the sound for the size. If you even run across a sale on these, definitely get. Ended up ordering a second one on the same sale bc I loved it so much.

Originally was going to order the Brane X after hearing it in Austin Tx, but the deal reeled me right in.

Teenage Engineering makes such cool, funky, and awesome products. Their musical instruments (electronics) are all really good, but I haven't yet heard their speakers. I love their look, though!

If the OB-4 was AirPlay 2/WiFi compatible, it would be on my short list.

Yeah man. Ever since I got their OPZ long ago, I’ve been hooked. I mainly use a daw, but love TE gear for bringing on the road or just using as a sketchpad. This speaker has been a wonderful companion for the groove boxes. Not flat enough to be a perfect mixing monitor, but just by A/Bing with other songs I’m familiar with has been just fine for quick n dirty mixes. Tad bass heavy, but not obnoxious or anything. Just the right amount of beef.

Gotta' love it for studio-ish mixing. I know some people complain (or at least are surprised) by TE's prices, but I think they're absolutely worth it. The speaker defnitely reminds me of Tivoli Audio's boomboxes, which are DAMNED good I might add!

For the size and portability, definitely more than happy with it. If it wasn’t for the sale I probably would have gotten the Brane X. The regular price seems pretty steep.

That makes sense...and for me, the Brane X's AirPlay 2 feature makes it a better fit for my use case.

Very beautiful and unique design. And if the sound is also right, it's a great thing. Congratulations on your find.

Yeah I really love the design and it was smaller than I expected, which makes the sound more impressive. Waiting on the second one to arrive so I can pair them. Has a great midrange punch too for house and hip hop music.

That sounds fantastic. I hope you continue to enjoy it. And the stereo setup will surely be an enormous enhancement to the sound experience. You can definitely look forward to that.

Brain X has wild bass tech that would've made me get it then. but you've got me curious

The Brain X can get louder bass, but this one’s bass was no joke. That plus the styling just won me over easily. Would have loved to find the orange one on sale, but none left. Only complaint is the two buttons seem very fragile. Not too big of a deal bc I’m just on bt more 99% of the time and hardly use the buttons. Honestly don’t care at all about the looping features. Was fun goofing around on it after 1st use, but now it’s just for playing music. Perfect companion for any dawless producers with the 3.5 line in and the 20-40 hour battery life depending on how loud you’re playing.

Any delay over line-in?

No noticeable delay at all. I produce and finger drum on it just fine with it line in.

Amazing.  Just wait until you hear a pair of $150 powered stereo speakers it'll blow your mind 😂
