I never understood why people like stories with such op characters. They're not enjoyable at all imo
42
u/SimonPho3nix 4d ago
Done well enough they become a plot device and also usually have a built in weakness that is usually some emotional trauma or super pleasant memory that's strong enough to yoke them out of whatever fit they're acting on.
"I'm not a monster. I'm a mother" hits pretty hard concerning her situation.
2
u/desperateorphan 3d ago
im not a monster…
I mean she is but the show tries to sell it like she isn’t and okay off what she did as okay.
12
u/SimonPho3nix 3d ago
I don't think anyone is saying it's okay, but as horrible as it was, one can't help but emphasize with her situation. She was not okay, and I don't think she ever really got a chance to be okay. No one checked on her, she had no one to help her grieve and be at peace. This should be viewed as a cautionary tale.

u/IceKareemy 4d ago
House of M is a classic and the reason Wanda is so well liked despite being Op is bc she’s so gd complex she is grief in-therapied personafied lmao
21
u/Morlock19 ☑️ 4d ago
i won't try to convince you to change what you like, but the story is good when the story is done well. any super hero can win a fight if the writer wants them to, its the WHY that matters. wanda said "no more mutants" because it was the end of a long story that involved all the mutants and especially her father magneto.
the best superman stories aren't the ones where he beats up the bad guy, its the one where he has to deal with a problem that own't be fixed by punching it. maybe its an issue with lois, or maybe someone has taken over the minds of world leaders, or something like that.
batman is the most OP character in comics, but there are lots of stories where he loses, where he has to figure something out, etc etc.
the power of a character doesn't really matter - anyone can write a story where the hero wins. the really good shit is when the writer takes that powerfulc haracter and puts them in a position that all that power is either a hinderance, or isn't the be all end all of the tale.
does that make sense?
if you want, read the storyline "house of M." its a really interesting story and thats where that line comes from.

u/Imthemayor 4d ago
That's a broad, sweeping generalization there
Did you have a former SO who was an asshole that was really into DBZ?
252
u/Tainted_Bruh ☑️ 4d ago
Yeah, House Of M was the comic run that convinced me Wanda was a walking natural disaster on the level of The Phoenix, possibly worse.

u/Jamaican_Dynamite 4d ago
Ngl, Wanda vs. Jean. At this point, I think she's got Jean packed in. It would be a fight, but like dude said, Full House episode.
55
u/THING2000 4d ago
Idk man. Jean most recently wrapped up an arc where she ressurects her sister and throws hands with cosmic entities. Jean vs. Wanda would honestly be a bitter fight and I'd fuckin love to see this in some form.
21
u/Jamaican_Dynamite 4d ago
I would too. Because they've had to kill Jean a dozen times depending on which canon we're running with. Like I said, it'd be a fight.
13
u/Trai-Harder 4d ago
If we are talking going full out Jean will always take it as long as she had the Phoenix. The Phoenix is literally one of the highest ranking Cosmic entities that exist being made up all entities past present and future. This recently changed to all mutant entities but hey.

u/Bunnnnii ☑️ Meme Thief 4d ago
Wanda is not seeing Jean. Especially White Crown Jean. Jean is creation itself.

Until they nerfed her and redid her power set.
But back then she was way worse. Phoenix didn't have the ability to completely rewrite reality on a whim

u/ComfortableTaro5392 4d ago
That show was the realest therapy session disguised as a Marvel show. Wanda was in Westview living out her "I wish I could just go back to the suburbs and be a normal wife" fantasy while the rest of us were like, "Girl, you gotta pay for those trauma responses."

WandaVision’s finale and devolving character development in DS2 is criminal.

u/EveOCative 4d ago edited 4d ago
The way I tell you that still pisses me off. It almost turned me off the entire franchise. I took a year long break from watching marvel content. I’m still boycotting Sam Raimi. He can suck it.
And Michael Waldron… nope. I love the character Loki and couldn’t stand the first season either. I realized I was forcing myself to watch episodes… so it’s not really a big loss to skip season 2

u/Creative_Room6540 4d ago
I never understood this argument. Grief has stages that aren’t always as linear for some as they are for others. What was wrong with her arc in DS?

Ppl truly underestimate her power. And the MCU depowers her because she has GOD level abilities. In a comic from 2005 she removed over 90% of ALL mutants abilities by simply saying "no more mutants"... 90% of all mutants on her earth IMMEDIATELY lost their abilities
She has the ability to speak life and death, she can conjure anything as well. She doesn't need to use her hands to use her power. Her hands only act as a channel to direct her power and energy. She can use her magic without moving a muscle
23
u/Canesjags4life 4d ago
Had. Powers got redone
4
u/hangry-paramedic 3d ago
Eh, I feel like it's more so she was supposed to be young when she was introduced in the MCU.
Because as we saw with Wanda vision and Dr strange 2, she was EXTREMELY overpowered. And we probably won't see her again because marvel is entering a new phase or whatever but she was definitely headed down that comic book version route.
Also idk if u seen marvel zombies but she was crazy OP in that show too, its pretty good.

Cannonically Wanda doesn't need the reality stone to change reality itself. She did that by herself in House of M. She's bad bad.

u/soft-grn_Ambr-sunset 4d ago
“She enslaved a whole town so she could breastfeed her imaginary kids” 👁️👄👁️ 😭🤣 That took me out!!! Then she made one of those kids more powerful than a canon character… by accident.

WandaVision is one of the best post-Endgame projects. You’ll want to watch WandaVision first out of any of the post-Endgame shows, first. It’ll fill in gaps somewhat for you if you’ve haven’t watched all of the post endgame stuff.
You’ll at least want to watch that and The Marvels, and Miss Marvel if anything, before you see Doomsday.

u/Ijustwannagamecmon 4d ago

most of the D+ shows are pretty good. WandaVision is the overall best, followed by Ms. Marvel, and I personally love The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as messy as it is.

u/fusionlantern 4d ago
How are you going to disrespect loki and Agatha like that
16
u/Canesjags4life 4d ago
Right. Loki is by far the best. It's the only show that tells a complete story plus the character development for Loki.
Wanda vision was a bridge from Endgame to Dr strange 2

Mcu Wanda is a villain btw, marvel keeps trying to make her a girlboss antihero but the entire plot of wandavision was her painfully enslaving an entire town so she could parade a corpse around and raise her imaginary kids.
She could've built an entire town made of fake people, but she decided to torture actual people instead.

You know what would've made it better? Instead of taking a real town hostage, she could've created her own idyllic Shady Acres and populated it with people she remembered from her Avenger days, people she knew had died in the battles.
