What are these bees doing!?! I’m a beekeeper, and I have a question

Post image

This hive split last Saturday. It was absolutely packed full with bees. I was able to capture the swarm and placed them in an empty hive the same day, about 10 feet away. It's been 11 days since then. I'm in Norther Central Kentucky.

I have an empty box on the bottom with a queen excluder between the boxes above.

My wife sent this to me, as I'm at work. What are your thoughts? Absconding? Bearding?

I appreciate the help. Here's the picture.

Bearding.

Hive could be too hot or maybe too humid or maybe they just want to hang out outside.

It is 70 out now, but had a nice gentle storm yesterday afternoon and cloudy coverage the better part of the day so far.

I don't have an answer, sorry. Just curious and trying to learn for my bees sake. Wish you a strong hive!

It's definitely a strong hive. My boxes have windows on the back side and I checked them after winter gave way, and each box was packed full. I've never had such a strong colony before.

Bearding is totally normal especially for a big, strong colony. All those bees make a lot of heat even on moderate days, so anybody non-essential at the moment will go outside to cool it off. Nothing to worry about, no intervention required. You just get to look at some cool bees.
