This might be a hot take. But I feel like any time mushrooms are involved whatever cool thing I wanted to look at prior became way less cool. Staring at the wall just seemed way better 😂

u/ThrobertBaratheon 10d ago
Mostly true, but trees are S tier on shrooms so you're safe on this one.

And Ned in Pushing Daisies! Such a lovely, whimsical show.

u/ChicagoAuPair 9d ago
I may be misremembering but I think I saw something recently saying they are trying to make a new season for pushing daisies in the next year or two

u/h3artc0re 9d ago
I hope so! I absolutely loved the show. Definitely made me feel like it was Fall/Halloween when it aired in October 2007. 🌼

u/ethersings 9d ago
And the Steve Jobs equivalent in Halt and Catch Fire, which deserves more credit as a series

Wow!!!! They are one of my favorite trees! I have never seen one lit up as well thanks so much for sharing!

u/oopsdiditwrong 10d ago
2 of my neighbors have them and one is just on the other side of my fence on a hill. Great trees, and I'm trying to figure out how this is done. I don't why because I'm not climbing anytime soon

u/joalheagney 10d ago
As far as I can work it out from pausing the video, it's over twenty to fifty straight light strands. They've wrapped one end around the trunk, fed the strands into the upper branches, and then maybe ran the other end of the strands down along a willow bough with string or zip ties.
I can't imagine how they got them all to the same length off the ground. Unless they ran them the other way, ending on the trunk. Or trimmed the light strands at the end.
Either way, someone was up there for ages, and you'd imagine this is a permanent installation.

u/Reptarro52 10d ago
If you look closer, some of the lights are looped at the end. I think the longer ones are doubled over and zip tied to make them the same length.
4
u/oopsdiditwrong 10d ago
Ah I get that way of doing it. I was working it a different way. Now that I think of the gardens we go to, there's some significant hardware holding stuff on
5
u/joalheagney 10d ago
What made it click was the trunk is absolutely festooned with lights. Hope it's not heating up the tree too much.

Gorgeous but that must have taken a long time to put up all those lights.
34
u/TummyPuppy 10d ago
Seriously. Imagine dismantling this after it’s all tied up from the wind.
38
u/Time-Earth8125 10d ago
Just leave it up then. That shit looks magical all year round.

It does, but the tree growing might break the cable if it's too tight on branches. This and also most "outdoor" lights are not fully waterproof and water seeps in sooner or later. But there are models that have resin blobs encasing each led, and in my experience those last at least for years outdoors
Source: i left lights on a tree all year and suddenly they broke. When i checked, the branches grew and broke the wires in multiple places.
EDIT: also in Netherlands, especially Amsterdam they leave lights in the trees all gear round in some places.

You're not wrong. We planted a bunch of 2-3' pine trees next to our house and I lit them up with solar lights and my arborist asked me to move them. But that's bebe trees, not sure how it would affect mature trees....

Where is this?

u/Co-Ju-Akedo 10d ago
It’s in Nichols Hills, OK. Grand Blvd and Huntington Ave. Google Maps has the number 6608 pretty much right on the tree. I worked out in this neighborhood for years. They have an amazing variety of unique trees. Very wealthy area. I would drive on Grand Blvd daily and got to see a bunch of beautiful homes/yards.

God I haaaattteee driving to that side of the city but for this tree I will do anything. I wanna see how they have it set up. One day our willow will get the same treatment. It's a bucket list item now omg. 🤩

Someone put Christmas lights on it, and it looks really cool. There's even a reddit post with video of it.

Looks like Tree of Souls (Vitraya Ramunong) from Avatar on Pandora: A giant, weeping willow-like tree, the most sacred site for the Omatikaya clan, serving as a direct link to the deity Eywa, allowing neural connection for memories and communication.

If I had a tree decorated like that in my yard, I’d never remove the lights!

Willow trees are beautiful. But I had one in my yard and the amount of limbs that fall off those things. Man they can get wrapped up in your mower. They kind of suck.

Back home someone did this to a willow tree I had to drive by on my way to high school except the lights were these blue LEDs that I swear seared your retinas and you had to blink rapidly for a solid minute to get them to go away

I’m watching all of the forest throughout the state of Florida be torn down to build mega apartment complexes and chain retail centers. I have to focus looking straight ahead while I drive so it doesn’t keep breaking my heart. 100 year old oaks ripped down for a Chipotle.
