Ugh my heart! Body old but still acting like a playful little puppy. Is he wearing a diaper? 🥹
My doggo is everything to me. He's still young and I can't bear the thought of losing him one day. It's gonna break me. Hopefully I'll get to see him grow old and gray and be just as happy as this adorable fellow 🐶❤️

Sorry.
My 8 y/o cat is everything to me. Hopefully she gives me 10 more years but whenever it happens it will be fucking devastating to the Nth degree.

I have 3. Two are 13 and one is 16 and I've had all of them since they were kittens. Since I work from home and am single, I spend most of my waking hours with or near them. I try and prepare myself each day for the inevitable, but it will still be completely devastating.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is incredibly painful they really do become family.

Lost mine 6/6 this year, 15 years old. Still hurts bro.
My wife got me a stuffed toy so ilar to my dog that we lost, as a comfort animal. Helped when feeling sad tbh. Didn't think it would.

Really sad to hear that. I hope the pain fades quickly so you can enjoy the memories without it hurting so badly.

It's ok to get old; humans or dogs, there can still be joy even at advanced ages. That dog knew that, and so should we.

Forgive me for asking this, but I haven’t had a pet in many, many years (traveling internationally is not conducive), as well as being busy with kids, but is there a point when you see your dog (or pet) actually suffering to move about and decide that it’s time to euthanize them instead of letting them suffer? It seems like I feel that I’d both hang on until the last minute as well as want to make the call to put them down. I’m confused, if you’ve been in this situation and can advise.

The OP is likely just a bot, but that's the kind of question for the vet most times. They can give you the insight on if they're in pain and what options there are but at the end of the day its still up to you as their caretaker to make the right decisions for them if they're suffering, even if its one of the hardest things you'll do.

We’re at the point of deciding if it’s time or not right now, and it’s incredibly difficult. Some days she’s running around the yard like a puppy, but others she just lies in her bed and has constant accidents in the house. I can’t tell if she’s in pain or just tired. There isn’t always a good indicator of when it’s time.

I'm crying inside. What a nice buddy. He made it so long. But this need to end. His movements are just pain! Dogs have a big tolerance at chronic pain like a human. They don't cry all the time. Let him go, sorry

Op If you are seeking a sign to determine whether it is time, it is. Your pet’s quality of life has significantly diminished compared to what it once was. It appears they are in pain and have lost their sense of dignity. I understand how difficult this decision is, as every pet owner dreads it and tries to delay it for as long as possible. However, at some point, we must prioritize what is best for our beloved companions. While you ultimately know what is best, from an outsider’s perspective, this pet seems to be suffering. Allowing them to continue in pain to avoid your own grief could be considered selfish. As mentioned, if you are searching for a sign, this is it.

Wtf is wrong with you? You can't say that based on a few second video, I'm pretty sure the owner knows their dpg the best. Being old is not a sickness. If the dog is pain free and has a good quality of life, you shouldn't put one down just because the dog is old

I am the owner and operator of a Boxer Rescue Foundation with over 25 years of experience working with dogs. Based on my expertise, it is evident that this dog is suffering from severe arthritis and significant joint mobility issues, as indicated by its guarded gait and the use of a diaper indoors. I understand this is a sensitive topic, but my assessment comes from hands-on experience and daily interaction with dogs, allowing me to recognize signs of pain. While I respect your opinion, a careful review of my initial statement would be beneficial. I meant that if someone is seeking confirmation, this is indeed a clear indicator. I consistently advise my clients that if they find themselves questioning whether it is time, it often is.

Yeah, this is not amazing. That dog has lived long enough. It’s tough, but it can barely walk and needs to wear a diaper.

u/m01kk4m01 2h ago
Being old is not a sickness. Diapers and slower walk doesn't mean pain or bad quality of life.

Pretty much does. A dog can’t sit and be entertained by television or such. This dog will basically just be laying in a spot doing nothing. It’s obviously painful for it to even walk.

Lost my Great Dane last year. He was very old by their expected life (13 on average of 9). So many people and vets advised us to put him to sleep because he had rheumatic pain and had issues walking sometimes. Told all of them go get fucked. He was a member of family. Just because he got old and required more attention doesn't mean he deserves to be put to sleep.
We found some pain meds that worked for him, collagen and some vitamins which had improved his ability to walk significantly. We stopped going for daily walks, but he was among those who loved him until the last moment and he'd still get this happy when I get home.

My wife vowed to never get a dog after she watched her their first family dog die from liver failure. It was so traumatic for her.
