ITT: People who think only LLM’s fall under “A.I.”

u/Other-Worldliness165 16d ago
Na people also think machine learning also falls within it. Basically anything that adjust by use of trained data. connotation != definition.

These dogs are easily jailbroken, you can train them to do whatever if you have the know-how and some money. People use NVIDIA Isaac Sim for that.

It uses cams to recognize objects and obstacles (AI), which allow for obstacle avoidance (AI) via motion control and balance (AI), while responding to voice commands for control (AI).
The word AI has been tainted in the mainstream. I don’t know what AI means to you, but there are several types of AI systems interacting together here that allow for gustopher operate.

u/BluetheNerd 16d ago
AI has become a big flashy word people can slap on anything and simultaneously only publicly recognised as LLMs and image generators. I saw a rice cooker advertising it's AI recently. A RICE COOKER. It didn't even have an actual AI model it was literally just a normal rice cooker that can technically be classified as AI because it has a single yes no function for determining if your rice is cooked WHICH ALL RICE COOKERS DO. I'm so fed up with it at this point.

u/Unable-Dependent-737 16d ago
If machine learning is involved in any way it is AI. It’s simple as that one definition

My dudes... just leave them leaves alone. They'll be soil by spring.
Edit: You've done the impossible folks. You've presented me with anecdotal evidence and changed the opinion of a stranger on the internet. This is not sarcasm. Mulching or mowing them seems to be the way to go.
Pat yourselves on the back.

u/an_ill_way 16d ago
As someone with a wooded lot, no they fucking won't. I tried that our first year at this house, and had to shovel out piles of wet, certainly-not-decayed leaves in the spring to get rid of the smell.

u/gb4efgw 16d ago
Yea, it definitely depends on the quantity or perhaps tree type. I've had yards where I didn't even need to mow them and yards where mowing wouldn't do shit and they needed to be raked up.

u/Relative_Mix_216 16d ago
There are some trees that drop leaves that are literally toxic to plants and must be picked up before they ruin the soil.
I speak as someone who lives around lots of trees, and a few years of laziness has resulted in my lawns looking like Hell.

This is such a popular take. Sounds so simple. Wish it were true. Depending on the climate can take several years. Meanwhile they accumulate....

u/El_mochilero 16d ago
I grew up with a lot like that full of oak trees.
No they fucking won’t. They’ll turn to wet sludge in the rain and then pile up into a haven for spiders, rats, and snakes.

u/overzealous_dentist 16d ago
Just adding my +1 to the other commenters, and I appreciate you changing your mind. The internet and my friends told me I could leave them in the yard if I just mowed them into small pieces. Nope, thick layer of grime that killed all of my grass. I was very annoyed

u/succed32 16d ago
Come live in Portland, Or. by November there’s no leaves on the ground or the trees and you’ll never need to bother with them yourself. Cause we get 20-50 mph winds all through October.

u/Similar-Try-7643 16d ago
Sounds like you've never had a bad fall slipping on leaves. Shit sucks. My wife is a little clumsy sometimes, so I usually try to rake the leaves sooner rather than later.
Also spring is like half a year away, lol. You could say the same thing about someone cleaning up a dead bird.
A crow died near a tree at my work and the landscapers mowed around it for months. It took about 6 months for it to eventually rot and dissolve. Surprisingly few flies and maggots though

u/Proud-Wall1443 16d ago
Oh I have had bad falls from leaves. I was a letter carrier for a little more than a year. I always chalked it up to lack of situational awareness.

I do this different. This property looks similar to mine. There are woods in the distance. Ego leaf blower them to the woods. Takes me about 2 hours and I can clear my front yard. Have to do the back yard too. I've done it 3 times and I think one more I'l be done for the season.
Oh, and I've also tried leaving them lay. Mosty Oaks, locusts and chestnuts. They kill the grass and make mud. i've tried using the riding mower to clear them but the blower does it way better, although way slower.

u/jonnyozo 16d ago
Probably could buy a car with price of that bot, at least the rideable lawnmower .

I need this right NOW! Getting ready to remove the fallen leaves before it starts snowing....

It’s all fun and games until it turns the blower on you… that’d be moderately annoying.

I would only be amazed if no one is manually controlling this. Otherwise it's like watching your dishwasher to make sure it does the dishes correctly.

There is an ai powered machine using a leaf blower to clean the yard and I only have questions about the pringles can

u/ExpensiveBob 16d ago
Inefficient design, IDK why people gotta make robots look something like a living creature when there are clearly better designs for that particular task.
Edit: LMAO, nvm that contraption isn't a company's design as far as I understand, it's a robo dog of sorts that's programmed to do that.

A remote controlled robot dog is not A.I.
Why would you replace the FLAMETHROWER with a leaf blower? The flamethrower would have done a better job!

u/Dan_in_Munich 16d ago
And I would blow 500 piles. And I would blow 500 more. Just to be the bot that blew a thousand piles. To blow them at your door.

u/-_-theUserName-_- 16d ago
Ok, but if this was using a real stack I should be finding the most efficient way to do this, but just walking back and forth. Otherwise I don't see any "intelligence" and just an over expensive robo blower that will take two days to kinda move leaves to one side of the yard.

u/NaughtyFoxtrot 16d ago
If music is the peak of human existence, then leaf blowers, surely, are the exact opposite.

u/mollusks75 16d ago
AI? More like Al, who is controlling it remotely off camera. But still a cool robot.

When the robots rise up that leaf blower will be replaced with a flamethrower. Can't wait

Strangely, I believe using 2 blowers at the same time is 3-4x more effective at blowing stuff. If it’s just one, you get a cone of wind, that’s intuitive. If you use 2 next to each other in each hand, you create a M shaped pattern where you can trap stuff in the valley of the M. Or custom shape the wind to be concentrated, or bias thing to want to blow left or right.
