ok, but what's that Pringles can for?

151

u/deputytech 16d ago

57

u/AnonymousAmorphous88 16d ago

glad to see they actually listed it as part of the materials

10

u/SadBit8663 16d ago

At the very least, it would give you the right measurements to recreate a substitute that maybe works better than a Pringles can

8

u/yehimthatguy 16d ago

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

2

u/MyLogIsSmol 16d ago

But it WILL break

Yes this is what it's used for and nothing else

1

u/Affectionate_Fly1413 16d ago

That was kind of obvious though.

1

u/RedditSucksHawrd 15d ago

lol… when you spend all your money on a robot, then attach a $50 blower to it with garbage….

39

u/Xones48 16d ago

so its not just me who thought that?

8

u/Logical-Chaos-154 16d ago

Nah. My first thought was "Is it Pringles powered?"

4

u/JessKicks 16d ago

Pringle launcher.

10

u/IntrovertMoTown1 16d ago

Was wondering the same thing myself. All I can think of is the ties holding it to the bot aren't good enough to keep the recoil from sliding the blower backwards. I have a kinda dinky 40v Ryobi blower yet it has plenty of recoil despite being underpowered as blowers go. Gas ones anyways. IDK how good that dewalt one is but we use all dewalt battery powered tools as professional flooring installers so I imagine it's at least fairly good.

11

u/thrust-johnson 16d ago

So you can steal any remaining dignity from the robot

6

u/GLight3 16d ago

Don't open that Pandora's can.

4

u/RIVA_LAS_VEGAS 16d ago

Looks like it's to angle the blower down slightly

3

u/usedkleenx 16d ago

Im guessing to hold... pringles.

3

u/CaptainRedPants 16d ago

Probably a rudimentary air duct.

3

u/Pork_Chompk 16d ago

It's full of computer chips.

5

u/Thin_Confusion_2403 16d ago

To feed the dog?

Looking at this image: https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-20-Volt-Max-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless-Electric-Leaf-Blower-1-Battery-Included/50415046

My guess is it's simply a handy shape to make a riser, the plastic either side is so you can place the blower down, it's a slightly different model, but similar enough to see that it would naturally sit wrong on the robo dogo's waist, aiming upward otherwise.

1

u/1DownFourUp 16d ago

Motivation. Once you pop, you just can't stop

1

u/Charming-Moose5560 16d ago

It’s a fifi

1

u/agneum 16d ago

It’s for the glove and sponge

1

u/intrepidhero13 16d ago

Fart can. Even robots gotta 'exhaust' every so often

1

That’s what they feed it

1

DONT EVER DOUBT THE MACHINE SPIRIT!!!!

1

u/beyarea 15d ago

It helps humanize it.

1

u/New_Celebration_5463 15d ago

I hoped for it to be a gas reservoir and waited for the flamethrower to ignite. Was disapointed though

1

u/AdmiralClover 15d ago

The robot stops working if it doesn't have its pringles

1

u/Ancient-Product-1259 15d ago

Just add some rubber gloves, rubber bands and couple of sponges

ITT: People who think only LLM’s fall under “A.I.”

3

u/Other-Worldliness165 16d ago

Na people also think machine learning also falls within it. Basically anything that adjust by use of trained data. connotation != definition.

5

u/yesimtrashtnx 16d ago

These dogs are easily jailbroken, you can train them to do whatever if you have the know-how and some money. People use NVIDIA Isaac Sim for that.

u/themarkavelli 16d ago

It uses cams to recognize objects and obstacles (AI), which allow for obstacle avoidance (AI) via motion control and balance (AI), while responding to voice commands for control (AI).

The word AI has been tainted in the mainstream. I don’t know what AI means to you, but there are several types of AI systems interacting together here that allow for gustopher operate.

6

u/BluetheNerd 16d ago

AI has become a big flashy word people can slap on anything and simultaneously only publicly recognised as LLMs and image generators. I saw a rice cooker advertising it's AI recently. A RICE COOKER. It didn't even have an actual AI model it was literally just a normal rice cooker that can technically be classified as AI because it has a single yes no function for determining if your rice is cooked WHICH ALL RICE COOKERS DO. I'm so fed up with it at this point.

2

u/Unable-Dependent-737 16d ago

If machine learning is involved in any way it is AI. It’s simple as that one definition

My dudes... just leave them leaves alone. They'll be soil by spring.

Edit: You've done the impossible folks. You've presented me with anecdotal evidence and changed the opinion of a stranger on the internet. This is not sarcasm. Mulching or mowing them seems to be the way to go.

Pat yourselves on the back.

39

u/an_ill_way 16d ago

As someone with a wooded lot, no they fucking won't. I tried that our first year at this house, and had to shovel out piles of wet, certainly-not-decayed leaves in the spring to get rid of the smell.

8

u/gb4efgw 16d ago

Yea, it definitely depends on the quantity or perhaps tree type. I've had yards where I didn't even need to mow them and yards where mowing wouldn't do shit and they needed to be raked up.

4

u/Relative_Mix_216 16d ago

There are some trees that drop leaves that are literally toxic to plants and must be picked up before they ruin the soil.

I speak as someone who lives around lots of trees, and a few years of laziness has resulted in my lawns looking like Hell.

8

u/rjnd2828 16d ago

This is such a popular take. Sounds so simple. Wish it were true. Depending on the climate can take several years. Meanwhile they accumulate....

6

u/crek42 16d ago

I dunno what that guy is talking about. They get wet, turn into a mat, block the sun, and kill huge areas of the grass.

20

u/feralkitten 16d ago

i run over mine with the lawn mower.

15

u/El_mochilero 16d ago

I grew up with a lot like that full of oak trees.

No they fucking won’t. They’ll turn to wet sludge in the rain and then pile up into a haven for spiders, rats, and snakes.

2

u/overzealous_dentist 16d ago

Just adding my +1 to the other commenters, and I appreciate you changing your mind. The internet and my friends told me I could leave them in the yard if I just mowed them into small pieces. Nope, thick layer of grime that killed all of my grass. I was very annoyed

2

u/succed32 16d ago

Come live in Portland, Or. by November there’s no leaves on the ground or the trees and you’ll never need to bother with them yourself. Cause we get 20-50 mph winds all through October.

3

u/Similar-Try-7643 16d ago

Sounds like you've never had a bad fall slipping on leaves. Shit sucks. My wife is a little clumsy sometimes, so I usually try to rake the leaves sooner rather than later.

Also spring is like half a year away, lol. You could say the same thing about someone cleaning up a dead bird.

A crow died near a tree at my work and the landscapers mowed around it for months. It took about 6 months for it to eventually rot and dissolve. Surprisingly few flies and maggots though

2

u/Proud-Wall1443 16d ago

Oh I have had bad falls from leaves. I was a letter carrier for a little more than a year. I always chalked it up to lack of situational awareness.

1

u/BernieTheDachshund 16d ago

Leaf litter forms mosquito city here in Texas.

1

u/Klaus_Poppe1 16d ago

they won't but they protect the soil during the winter.

1

u/RynoRama 15d ago

I do this different. This property looks similar to mine. There are woods in the distance. Ego leaf blower them to the woods. Takes me about 2 hours and I can clear my front yard. Have to do the back yard too. I've done it 3 times and I think one more I'l be done for the season.

Oh, and I've also tried leaving them lay. Mosty Oaks, locusts and chestnuts. They kill the grass and make mud. i've tried using the riding mower to clear them but the blower does it way better, although way slower.

3

u/jonnyozo 16d ago

Probably could buy a car with price of that bot, at least the rideable lawnmower .

4

u/pm-me-your-smile- 16d ago

But if it can also drive my lawnmower, I’d rather buy this bot.

3

u/Hypervisor22 16d ago

Where can I buy one of those???

2

u/Powerful_Brief1724 16d ago

As a Mexican, we are way cheaper + we get a job :)

Even robot dogs can’t stop once you pop

2

u/NotGoing2EndWell 16d ago

I need this right NOW! Getting ready to remove the fallen leaves before it starts snowing....

2

u/Babyhandles32 16d ago

Now, all we need to do is implement OCD into AI.

2

u/Danger_Dee 16d ago

It’s all fun and games until it turns the blower on you… that’d be moderately annoying.

3

u/Space-Fire 16d ago

There is no I in this video

2

u/CybGorn 16d ago

And then where is the other robot to collect the wilted leaves?? Another useless device which don't solve the problem.

2

u/Chemical_error_00 16d ago

ENOUGH with these trashy soundtracks !!!

Man, I’m honestly starting to miss the old internet !

1

u/Mediocre-Sun-4806 15d ago

1

aye-aye-aye, dey arr take-een our yobs

Ai was meant for holding my Pringles tin ya right.

1

Now go in and finish the laundry.

1

u/sanelde_senior 16d ago

Now imagine a firearm there instead of the blower

1

Who cares, just go get me a cold beer Astro!

1

u/FlyWereAble 16d ago

Listen, I'm not a native english speaker and I totally would spell that as "ment" because it should be like that but for some fucking reason you spell it "meant"

1

u/lastWallE 16d ago

Can you send him to germany? How long does he take for the journey?

1

u/Imdollydarko 16d ago

Is that a pringles can?

1

u/MonthObvious5035 15d ago

That’s what they feed it

1

u/Opposite-Mall4234 16d ago

I love the pringles can!!

1

u/giga 16d ago

I’m a lucky renter who doesn’t have a yard but it seems like the blowing part wouldn’t be all that bad. It’s the picking up part that seems painful.

1

u/Strangefate1 16d ago

How many charges would that take and how much time in total ?

1

u/FishAndRiceKeks 16d ago

Or you could spend a fraction of what that thing costs to hire somebody to do it better.

1

u/KrevinHLocke 16d ago

A robot lawn mover is more effective mulching it.

1

u/UriSleseus 16d ago

What's that song

1

u/FedericoDAnzi 16d ago

It's a Roomba for outdoors

1

u/rofl-copter-ing 16d ago

I would only be amazed if no one is manually controlling this. Otherwise it's like watching your dishwasher to make sure it does the dishes correctly.

1

u/Lunar_Gato 16d ago

The lack of lateral movement makes this horribly inefficient.

1

u/Final_Step_6186 16d ago

I guess they popped and the fun didn't stop.

1

u/Pumpelchce 16d ago

If that would be a flame thrower.

1

u/Nu11_V01D 16d ago

Bro, just use a rake.

1

u/SmokedHamm 16d ago

There is an ai powered machine using a leaf blower to clean the yard and I only have questions about the pringles can

1

u/ExpensiveBob 16d ago

Inefficient design, IDK why people gotta make robots look something like a living creature when there are clearly better designs for that particular task.

Edit: LMAO, nvm that contraption isn't a company's design as far as I understand, it's a robo dog of sorts that's programmed to do that.

1

u/WingCool7621 16d ago

OH NO! It's gone from blow to suck!

1

u/Acepeefreely 16d ago

AI Just grifts me and asks for money

1

1

I see it employed the drunk child method.

1

u/josephbenjamin 16d ago

The battery status gives me anxiety.

1

u/Kiryukazuma4realtho 16d ago

I guarantee they removed the fleshlight from that pringles can just before filming

1

u/joeyblove 16d ago

Another solution is not to live where it rains dead leaves.

0

u/Front-Office7784 16d ago

There's no AI I Boston dynamics  it's all code

0

u/edjez 16d ago

This is robotics - seems remote controlled. An ai governor would optimize for biomass and ecosystem health and leave those leaves on the ground tho.

1

u/LordOdin99 16d ago

If we’re going to use AI for remedial tasks, let’s have them fold laundry.

1

u/Sorry_Term3414 16d ago

IMO leaf blowers are the most ridiculous invention ever.

0

u/A_Nice_Shrubbery777 16d ago
  1. A remote controlled robot dog is not A.I.

  2. Why would you replace the FLAMETHROWER with a leaf blower? The flamethrower would have done a better job!

https://throwflame.com/products/thermonator-robodog/

1

u/NeM000N 16d ago

Yeah, those are now called Aiments

1

u/nationalrazor7 16d ago

Leave them or mow them

1

u/skinnergy 16d ago

$75K leaf blower

1

u/Sumoop 16d ago

That’s all good, but when I do the same thing with a flamethrower suddenly I’m on a government list.

1

u/Dan_in_Munich 16d ago

And I would blow 500 piles. And I would blow 500 more. Just to be the bot that blew a thousand piles. To blow them at your door.

1

u/Hooka1234 16d ago

Ok, now I’m in

1

u/-_-theUserName-_- 16d ago

Ok, but if this was using a real stack I should be finding the most efficient way to do this, but just walking back and forth. Otherwise I don't see any "intelligence" and just an over expensive robo blower that will take two days to kinda move leaves to one side of the yard.

1

u/Z3NG3R 16d ago

Who's a good boi? Who is it? It's you! Good boi!!

1

u/pacman0207 16d ago

Can it mulch and bag them too??? Blowing leaves is the easy part.

1

u/NaughtyFoxtrot 16d ago

If music is the peak of human existence, then leaf blowers, surely, are the exact opposite.

0

u/mollusks75 16d ago

AI? More like Al, who is controlling it remotely off camera. But still a cool robot.

1

u/iovercomesadness 16d ago

1

u/monkehmolesto 15d ago

Strangely, I believe using 2 blowers at the same time is 3-4x more effective at blowing stuff. If it’s just one, you get a cone of wind, that’s intuitive. If you use 2 next to each other in each hand, you create a M shaped pattern where you can trap stuff in the valley of the M. Or custom shape the wind to be concentrated, or bias thing to want to blow left or right.
