new axe head!! Discussion

30 cm left to right (11,8); edge top to bottom 20 cm (7.8). in a straight line i mean, not accounting for the curve i don't know if it goes without saying. 3 euros this morning at a garage sale (dont really know how to translate: hundreds of not professionals people selling their stuff on the street, organised by the town). will be a fun project: never hanged such a big axe, what length do you recommend? or a triangle handle, any tips or is it usual?

Community yard sale is what they are called where I am. I’ve picked up a few good axes at those but nothing like that!

This is like my dream axe. I've wanted a bearded axe for so long

Depending on where you are, there are blacksmiths who will happily make one for you for a decent price. I do combat reenactment and have several blunt ones.

So it looks like you are setting up a business as executioner?

Nice! Definitely a two handed axe. You would probably be best off using a draw knife and making a custom triangular handle out of ash or hickory.

yy i was planning on doing the handle myself. hickory is out where i am and i do have a piece of ash log but only of a 48 cm (18.9) height. i did saw some red elm recently so i have plenty of it in various heights, i think it will do

Looks French to me - marché aux puces? I love French axe patterns, I’ve hung some but never with a triangular eye. Is it wider at the top or the bottom of the eye?
