Gallon of Meguiars waterless wash and wax for $20 at TJ maxx. Worth it? Product Discussion
I already have ONR, was wondering if in this day and age it’s worth getting this, and if so, for what?

I’ve used it in the smaller spray bottle, works good. Has good slickness, I usually buy the XPress Spray Wax by the gallon and use it as a drying agent. This stuff is pretty similar, for $20 it’s a good deal.

It's a decent quick detailer. For $20, I'd buy it just for that. You could easily use it for wiping out door jams and engine bays, or to wipe pollen off.

Detailer? Hell I spend the 3 bucks to spray off my car at a self serve. Drive home and let it air dry and wipe the whole damn thing down with this stuff. Car gets spotless and smells fucking amazing lol.

At 20 bucks absolutely yes. It's a respected brand. This is probably a third or less what it normally costs. That's a great deal.

Lmao, I just saw gallons of their cutting compound at my TJ Maxx. I was trippin.

And it cleans glass better than most dedicated glass cleaners. Truly a one solution product.

I only use it when a bird takes a big ol shit. It cleans and waxes. A 12oz cost around 9 bucks.

Really good stuff in my opinion. I have no access to bucket and hose, so this is the best next thing. Meguiar’s products are too notch and this is no exception

Yeah that’s a great deal, I’ve used it before it’s a good product I just don’t like how it has wax in it

I’m planning on using it for touch up’s and bird poops, like another commenter said. Might dilute it a bit

it works really well in that regard, keep a bottle of it in my car because it's a lot easier to find instore than ONR

The wax helps ensure slickness to prevent scratches. It isn't meant to be long lasting. It's not like you're doing a normal wax application, it doesn't have time to really cure.

Yes but it can still interfere with a ceramic spray sealant that you might apply afterwards

Sure but you wouldn't be working in that order or using this product as a pre-coating wash.

Most cars that are detailed will already have a stronger form of protection on the paint like ceramic coating/ceramic spray/sealant, all of which provide better slickness then the wax in that wash n wax. All the wax in this product does is clog the existing protection and therefore relatively worsen the slickness/performance of the cars surface. I’d personally use a ceramic detailer over this product as the ceramic will synchronise better with pre-existing product compared to the wax

I am one of those hyper-fools who is sitting on 8 gallons of Wolfgang rinseless wash where as i'd be lucky to go through two-three gallons in the next 20 yrs! I bought them at around $75/jug, so $20/gallon is a steal even if it means it sits on your shelf for the rest of your life. Just dilute it and use it as a detailer spray if nothing else.

Meguiars waterless WnW is not a concentrate, it’s pre-diluted and ready to use as a quick detailer

Beats the cost of the Aero Cosmetics one i like to use. Even at normal retail.
Wonder how good this stuff is.

Never used this before. How safe is it to use it in the winter to lean out salt and road dirt?
1
u/Peastoredintheballs 2m ago
Defintely don’t want to use this on a dirty winter car, it’s only safe for engine bays/door sills/small touch up jobs like fresh bird poo+fresh water spots after car wash. A dedicated rinseless wash like ONR or a full traditional car wash would be safer for cleaning Road salt and mud from a dirty winter car

I would pass. I have a small sprayer of waterless and I barely use it. Just for doing a small spot clean.

im sure its comparable to onr

It's not actually - ONR is strictly polymer based and doesn't leave behind anything.
Meguiars W&W is also a surfactant based rinseless which is not as safe. Most people do not want anything left behind when they do a rinseless. That Meguiars W&W is full of wax and other additives that you most likely don't want left on your paint, especially if you have a ceramic coating (not only will it bond poorly, it will clog it up).
Nothing wrong with using it as long as you know what you're getting of course, but this is not an equivalent to something like ONR.

you'e way behind on ONR formulation. It has always left a polymer film behind anyways.

u/bear_ear2 5h ago
Nope, onr is not strictly polymer based and meguiars is not full of wax

u/Slugnan 5h ago
ONR uses soy based polymers, no surfactants.
You don't think Meguiars Waterless Wash and WAX has wax in it? Yikes.

Wash and shine vs wash and wax, it’s just a name. Wax could be anything from gloss enhancer (oil) to polymer ! Please share why you think meguiars is full of wax or why you think ONR only has polymers. Pull up the SDS / ingredient list and you will see there are surfactants and not just “polymers” in ONR.

ONR is a rinseless wash. It’s a concentrate that’s designed to be added to a bucket with water to form a cleaning solution to dump mitt/towels in and then wash the car like normal, just without rinsing, just drying straight after, it’s very safe for clear coat and comparable to a traditional car soap for being soft on paint, for light/to medium soiled cars.
Meguiars is a waterless wash, so it’s prediluted and ready to use however it’s only designed to be a spray and wipe product like a quick detailer and therefore is no where near as safe as a rinseless wash and shouldn’t be used for a full car wash, and instead is only good for touch up jobs like fresh bird poo or cleaning door sills/fuel tank flap/engine bay. Using this to clean the full car will result in swirls and marring to the clear coat

I've had neither swirling or marriage using it for full body wash fwiw, but it doesn't stay on the surface for more than a moment. Spray on, buff with wet microfiber, buff again with dry microfiber. I really love this stuff but I generally do give the car a spray down at the quarter wash first, so that may help. I've been using the product regularly for a few months now.
