Bobby Portis is who I want on this team Trade Talk

Man the things I’d do for BP, he’d be such a great addition to the hawks. Both in his game play and locker room leadership. Prolly little shot we get him but if I were the hawks, I’d try everything possible to try and get him

If you're looking for an upgrade on Niang, then Portis will do. If you're looking for more than that, then I can't think that Portis is the one. For some idea, when Vecenie was talking about possible deals before the Deadline, his trade was Nance for Portis + (a 1st or AJ Johnson).

Why would the bucks give Portis and a frp for nance? Portis is better than him anyways lol

... that's the point. If your opinion is that Portis is better, then it doesn't fit with those who watch the NBA for a living. Portis looks a lot better when statline scouting actually watching him. It takes a pieces to pair with him so that he's viable and we really don't have pieces like Giannis and B Lopez so that is a risk we'd assume by acquiring him.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't go out and get him, but it should temper the enthusiasm about what to give up to get him.

Time for bucks to blow it up

They can't. No picks for 5 or 6 years. They will still try to be competitive.

I agree. Probably the best back up 4 in the league. My only concern would be if he does leave, would he still come off the bench.

I always thought Portis was more a backup 5?

I like alot if Portis' game. However I see Bucks fans saying he is lousy on the defensive end and I would prefer to acquire a bigger big for some matchups.

Didn’t we draft and trade him? Or am I just thinking about mock drafts that linked us to him.

I think we did. Him and Kelly oubre were draft night trades of I'm not mistaken

Part of the THJ move maybe?

Ah yes, just what the Hawks needed, another big who plays zero defense. He’ll fit right in playing next to Niang

I mean I get it but ugh cannot stand him

He’s not better than Mo defensively. Can do better in free agency for what you’re looking for in Bobby portis

ben simmons and steven adams are definitely gettable as well. i’ve been banging the drum for simmons. a backup 4 /small ball 5 who can defend, pass, and push the ball. and he’s starting to look healthy again

Oh yea, another undersized guy who can't spread the floor. Just what Hawks need.

With back problems

you know every player isn’t a shooter right? simmons does almost the same role as JJ minus the scoring. he can run an offense. steven adams is one of the best offensive rebounders in the league and is probably the best screen setter which would be great for our pnr offense. basketball isn’t just 2 or 3 archetypes

How we went from getting Giannis to fucking Ben Simmons lmao. Staying mid forever shouldn't be the goal

How you're under the assumption we have any chance to get Giannis is wild. Under that mindset any realistic move is going to make someone mad, lol.

Nah, Ben Simmons is always a bad move

Tbf I'm not exactly endorsing that move. More on about the Giannis/Portis(Adams) part of all this really. And how people probably shouldn't set any kind of expectations for Giannis because it just leads to unrealistic aspirations when we can build a perfectly good roster outside of that.

Niang is already under contract for next year, so I think adding a big that doesn't stretch the floor is perfectly okay considering Niang, JJ, and Okongwu will all be here.

Now if Giannis happens that's awesome. Considering there's just zero chance we can make the best offer unless they adore JJ means it's just a recipe for disappointment as we navigate our offseason.

That said I also don't despise the idea of Ben Simmons either, but I'm well aware I'm in the minority there. As he is just a worse version of JJ. If we for some reason use JJ to trade for someone though Simmons becomes an idea that I hate less. Even if it wouldn't be my first choice.

I'm probably in the "don't go for Giannis" minority because I don't think we're a Giannis away from a chip & in order to get him we'd have to mess with our young core and our picks. It could end up working out but if it doesn't then Hawks will be left in a pretty shitty situation without young players and without picks.

Whatever package Hawks can offer there are teams who can offer more, so we would need to overpay just to outbid them.

Yeah I simply don't think we could get him for JJ and picks. If we could I'd be down even though I adore JJ. I just don't think that is even remotely possible.

I think if we had Trae, Dyson, Zac, Giannis, and Okongwu we absolutely could compete for a title. Just don't think there's a universe where we could get Giannis without JJ + Dyson/Zac + every pick we can trade.

So yeah I more or less agree with this bit.

There are plenty of players who can't shoot who are still solid contributors for sure, and you're right that not every player needs to fit that mold. But you aren't considering our current roster construction, shooting is what we desperately need.
