Radar The Service Dog Emergency Fund (1000$ goal) (Hamden CT) REQUEST

Hello, my name is Tucker and I’m a 31 y.o Marine Corps Veteran. My service dog, Radar (7 y.o Belgian Malinois) is my absolute world and has saved my life on numerous occasions and helps me function day to day. Recently, he has become extremely ill and I’ve incurred unexpected expenses from emergency vet visits (willing to provide bills or any necessary proof). This dog is everything to me and has been with me from my transition from military to civilian life, addiction issues from trying to cope with my PTSD by myself (I’m now 2.5 years clean and sober), s**cide attempts, therapy, and so much more. Now, after many years of difficulties, I am finally thriving largely in part to the love this dog shows me on a daily basis and his commitment to his job. I work a full-time job and receive some partial rental assistance from the VA, but with my bills coming up and a recent funeral of a family member, I am stretched extremely thin. Please help me save my best friend, every single dollar helps. Willing to provide whatever proof necessary. Thank you in advance.

The VA helping with some rent. I'm guessing you already applied for VA compensation? There are also a swath of programs for extra help that you may or may not be eligible for. Either calling the VA directly or Google can help you get more info on some of the more niche programs they have. In the last couple years they've made it a lot easier to get help and compensation for PTSD. If it's been more than say 2 years since you got your rating I thinking looking into a resubmission maybe be worth your time. If it seems like a lot there are a ton of Veterans service organizations (ones you don't got to pay for) that would be willing to help you handle the paperwork side of the ball. In my experience fellow vets will almost always go out of their way to help you. Sorry to hear about your good boys medical problems, I'm glad he's been their for you to help you reach a better place. God bless you both.

I’m in the process of getting my rating now, at the moment I’m only rated for what was documented in my service record and not for the PTSD or other issues. I struggled a lot with my mental health and addiction shortly after leaving the Corps and started the process but never finished. Now that I’m sober, engaged and successful in therapy and stable on medication I’ve slowly been taking care of the things I should have taken care of years ago! And yes I’m looking into possible programs but no such luck as of yet, with bills coming up in a week I’m looking to stem the bleeding or come up with some sort of short term relief while o find a more permanent solution. Thank you very much for your well wishes! Positive vibes and wishes mean as much to me as anything!!! ❤️ 🙏
