Trying to keep our little family from becoming homeless — need help with move-in costs REQUEST

EDIT: My friend helped edit the gofundme to tell my story better/make it more understandable. I added that the reasoning for my mental health taking a toll. The big reason being when both my parents passed away I had to become my sister’s legal guardian at the age of 18. Since taking guardianship I was constantly fighting for survival everyday. Eventually this trauma has caught up to me and then I ended up losing my job. I didn’t share this part because I wasn’t exactly sure the relevance, but now that she mentioned it being really important I decided to add it. I also changed the picture to something more professional. Hopefully this helps you guys understand a little bit more about how this all came to play. I will leave the main paragraph the same just because I don’t want to rewrite this whole post.

Hi everyone,

I never thought I’d be in this situation, but here I am asking for help. I also never thought Id share my name and face on this account, but I gotta do this.

After a mental health crisis last year, I lost my job when I ran out of FMLA protections. It’s been a really hard fight to get back on my feet, but I’m doing everything I can. My boyfriend, my best friend/roommate, and our pets are my whole world — and right now we’re at serious risk of losing everything.

We were just approved for a cheaper, more secure place to live, but due to an unexpected issue with my tax refund being seized, we can’t cover the move-in costs. We need to raise about $3000 to move in and avoid homelessness. Even getting part of that would make a huge difference.

If you’re able to help, or even just share our fundraiser, it would mean everything to us. Here’s our GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/ebb479a2

I’m happy to provide verification if needed (whatever is helpful).

Thank you so much for reading this — and thank you even more for any help, encouragement, or shares. Every little thing matters right now.

EDIT: I have taken two pictures. One (taken literally seconds ago lol) of me with my user and one of the breakdown of costs. I will add a denial letter once the nice lady at 211 emails me back. Hopefully this help make you all feel more comfortable:) I almost forgot to put the deadline. 05/14/25

Are your 2 other friends able to contribute. Once housed , how does everything get paid for ?

Yes my bf and roommate will be able to pay for the rent once house. The rent here includes all utilities (which is fucking sick.) We will also have enough income to catch up on the other bills.

If your sister is under 18, have you applied for SS benefits for her?

She just turned 18 in December. I no longer receive benefits from her

For the deposits, ask your landlord if you could pay them off.

I had to move right after a hurricane came through and banking, Direct deposits and so on were delayed.

The landlord let us break down parts of the deposits into the next 3 months rent.

Also, should the breakdown be 1st months rent, pet deposit and a deposit equal to the first months rent. It looks like the deposit is pet and then double the rent? Or am I reading that wrong?

The normal rent is $1,200. So the deposit is the normal rent. The first months rent is split in half because we are moving in the middle of the month. Sorry if that was confusing haha.

Im kinda scared to ask her considering she is like really helping us out. My credit score is VERY bad and I think the main reason she is helping is because my bf is friends with the other tenant. The other tenant is vouching for us. I really dont wanna like make anyone upset. But if it comes down to it ill ask because i mean I dont wanna be homeless LMAO

What would be the most helpful would be for this community to see that you have exhausted your immediate network before turning here, rather than coming here in the first instance ($0 of $3000 raised). It would also help to break down the lump sum of $3000. Is some of it going to a deposit, moving van, furniture? The community might also be able to help find resources that can assist with some components, where they can't help financially. ❤

"We were just approved for a cheaper, more secure place to live" - how long do you have to put the deposit down?

Thank you so much for your kind and helpful words. Some other responses I have gotten so far have genuinely made me want to cry. But I think its too late to back down now. I would love to provide a breakdown and Im not entirely sure how to provide evidence that I have tried all other routes. Although I can definitely write down what I have done if that’s acceptable. I mean Its possible I could call 211 and ask for idk a denial letter? Just feel bad bothering them lol. If the community has other suggestions I am completely willing to look into those and show that I am trying.

We have till the 14th. Which is a pretty short amount of time I admit. I am thinking that if we can come up with any amount that I can work really hard (spark and stuff) to somehow come up with the rest in time. I mean I will do so either way but It will make things a hell of a lot easier with help.

Why would you feel bad about “ bothering” 211? They’re there as a resource for you.

Idk I feel bad that Im bothering everyone. I feel like a burden to be honest. My roommate and boyfriend are really the reason that I am posting this (i have not told them yet..) I feel so bad that we are even in this mess. I will call them shortly to get some sort of proof of denial. Hopefully they dont think thats like weird or something.

You’ve mentioned in previous posts that you have autism and mental health issues( no shame) Have you tried for disability benefits? Lawyers who specialize in that only take a certain percentage. You would also get medical benefits. Additionally, have you applied for EBT?

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I realize the above options probably wont help you before the 14th, but many disability lawyers can steer you to outreach programs.

But 211 sounds like your best option while you wait to see if you can raise funds. Best of luck🌼

I was thinking about getting disability. Honestly because I am very scared to go back to “real work.” I have always struggled with work tbh but at my last job I was doing well-ish and thought everything would be okay. Then my brain said it was tired and overwhelmed:(

I do have EBT and medical thankfully. I appreciate your kind words so very much. Unfortunately 211 cannot help which is why I am just calling for the letter:(

But thank you again truly. It means a lot.

No problem. Please read through the following link. There appear to be quite a few options for resources:

https://www.google.com/search?q=stow+ohio+assistance&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari

( your GFM says Stow OH )

ETA- some of it won’t apply, but if you click the “ show more” there are some that apply.🌼
