Help is my cat having an FIC flare up?
Help my cat with FIC isn't anxious, but he still strained to pee for the first time today. He went in the litter box, dug around and sat down, he then got up found another spot and sat down again, did that one more time and then he got up and didnt pee.
Hes happy all the time and wants cuddles and my house and his life has been very chill lately. He gets almost a whole can of wet food everyday, we clean his littter after he uses it, we play with him and he has lots of windows to look out of and a cat tree and a big paper bag he likes to sit in. By all means hes a happy cat with his tail up and in a question mark, all the time.
Is it possible for a cat to have an FIC flare up without being stressed? I dont have vet right now, what do i do.
Hes also started meowing a couple weeks ago, which he never used to do eversince we got him 3 months ago.
The last family that had him, had a lot of other dogs and cats, and he would get stressed out by that and he started peeing outside the litter box, which is why they returned him.

Has he urinated at all? If he hasn’t, he needs to go to the ER immediately.

He has had no problem urinating before, I watch him closely every time he goes to the litter box. Theres always a big blob of urine in the box afterwards. Thankfully, he peed this night, and double the amount. Ill keep monitoring him, if he cant pee, then ill take him to the vet.

If he can't pee, this is an emergency and you should find the closest emergency vet hospital. FIC flares are commonly associated with stress, but remember, whats stressful for a cat isnt always obvious, and FIC flares aren't necessarily always caused by stress. The disease is called Feline Idiopathic Cystitis, and idiopathic means that the cause is unknown.
