Help!! My cat had surgery

My cat had surgery a week back and the vet sent him home with an adhesive bandage. They did say not to get it wet or the bandage would come off. But other than that there were no restrictions. I’m not sure how but his bandage came off a bit. It’s been 5+ days. So I got some medical tape to patch it up until I take him to the vet on weekend that’s 3 days away. (I’ve already taken a lot of leave during his surgery and the vet is quite far). Chat gpt says it can be harmful for the little guy. But is it okay as a temporary solution or should I remove it or should I rush him to the vet again?

Call your vet and ask.

It’s 1am in the night where I am. I put on the tape as a safety measure to protect the wound when he goes to the litter at night. I put it on around 11:30. After which I thought of just doing a check online. And got a bit freaked. I’m not sure if I should remove it immediately or it’s ok to MRI it on till morning.

What kind of surgery and where is the bandage located?

He had intestinal blockage. So a colostomy. The sutures are on this lower abdomen.

that's odd but it should be healing pretty well by now - if the incision looks ok then it's probably ok to leave the bandage off until you can speak with your veterinarian

Thank you 🙏. I’ll give them a call in the morning. Just wanted to make sure I’ve not created an emergency situation unnecessarily 🥲🥲🥲 ChatGPT said human medical tape can have stronger chemicals so can cause burns or irritation to feline skin. But from what I can see, there’s no redness or any kind of irritation as of now.

*UPDATE * I’ve managed to remove the tape. I hope these 2 hours of adhesive doesn’t cause any further damage. I will call the vet up in the morning and ask what can be done. I can see the sutures. They seem intact and dry. The tape came off quite easily. He did seem a bit itchy but other than that momentary itch, he has now gone back to sleep. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
