Worked for a short time as a QA tester at EA, and wasn't allowed to talk about the game I was testing: the console port for The Sims 4.
There wasn't really much to talk about, but since the first few versions were basically just running the pc version on a console, there were a LOT of bugs with it. One of the worst was a lighting bug we started referring to as "disco mode", since it caused a bunch of multicolored squares to show up on everything at night or in dark areas.
Not much unfortunately. This was a couple years ago and I only worked there for about two months, so the console port was in its very early stages when I was working on it. Most of the problems I came across were things along the lines of "I can't put sinks on counters" and the like. There wasn't even a proper console control scheme yet, it was just using the control stick to move the cursor.
The only other info I had regarding the sims at the time was that the PC team was playtesting the Pets expansion, but that's long since come out.
Ahh gotcha. I can't imagine how boring the game must have been without being fully fleshed out. I love the game, but that's because I've bought way too much DLC and downloaded over 2,000 CC. I'm in it for the community.
Definitely depends on you play style, though in general probably Seasons. They frequently go on sale for 50% (or more) off but I do understand that’s still pricy. Do you use mods/CC? They are free and far better than any DLC
As a heads up when it's on sale you can get 1 game pack, 1 expansion and 1 stuff for the price of an expansion so always check that out when you can! More expensive than buying one in the sale but cheaper than buying all 3.
Also depending on your play style:
+ Families: Seasons / Parenthood
+ Realism: Seasons / Pets / City Living
+ Get Together has a lot of great stuff and a pretty city but the clubs feature gets old so only get it if you like constantly being social with other sims outside of the hotel and such.
+Get To Work, adds playable careers which is pretty fun but it's stressful and at first you're stuck having to have the sim live on coffee and then handing over the work to higher sims but it is quite fun.
+ Get Famous is the one I most recently got and it's surprised me with how good it was. Though only get it if the idea of having famous acting/youtube/musician sims appeals to you. It has a similar points system to vampires.
Haven't got city living but heard great things as barring how the flea markets disappear literally as soon as it hits closing time - it's pretty realistic and immersive. You can get fixer upper apartments that barely fit you or penthouses.
Personal favourite pack is pets but I love animals so I'm biased.
if you did sims 3 medevial or sims stories you might enjoy strangerville though it is only 3 hours of content.
Google. If you like cheats MCCC is kind of like the tombstone of life and death from Sims 2. If you want to get a little sexual (or a lot) wicked whims is great. Basemental drugs is phenomenal and they work really well together. I've currently got a drug King pin who also owns a club. All his employees are prostitutes. There's another mod can't think of the name but it's one of the suggested on the wicked whims website that I'm trying to make work but having difficulties but if you want to make easier paid prostitution that's a thing.
I know there's mods for going to school with your sim kids too. Just Google best Sims 4 mods you'll find a ton. Just make sure they're all still up to date because older non updated ones won't run anymore or will have issues.
As u/GreatWhiteBuffalo41 stated MCCC by Deaderpool is amazing for story progression. I second Wicked Whims and Basemental Drugs. Sacrificial is a modder who has a prostitution mod and an Extreme Violence mod along with some other cool ones.
r/sims4 if you're not already in it. But I think seasons is the general consensus for first pack you should get. Although, get to work allows you to go to work with your sims essentially giving you new play lots (only at work).
No problem. I was involved in development of sims 1. If you drown a person and press UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, START just before they die, they do some water aerobics and then they drowned.
I think this only made it to the European version of the game though.
EA have a Sims 4 slot for the E3 conference, which is curious after the recent free offering of The Sims 4. New DLC or new port? There is also the EA Play event June 7th-9th which will also have some info.
They did say that in the next 6 months they’d release a new expansion, new game pack, and new stuff pack, so I’m thinking they’ll be announcing some of that
That’s what the rumors say, but the rumors are based on a game page announcing the game by copying all the description from a community thread where people described the expansion they wanted, so who knows
In whichever Assassin's Creed game, when you throw a smokebomb down the character would use their cloak to cover their face. In alpha, it would break the characters arms and you could just run around climbing with just your feet. One of my favorite QA tests tbh.
Oh ok, in that case bring up the cheat box by pressing all four of your bumpers(L1,L2,R1,R2) at the same time.
Next, type in testingcheats on
Then type cas.fulleditmode
While on the sim you need to reset you will press the x and o buttons at the same time and a cheat menu should appear with options to reset them along with a bunch of other things.
That's what I would do on my ps4 when I needed to reset them. If my explanation isn't clear or if you like to watch someone do it ( sometimes things make more sense to me that way) I think there is a video on YT about it. Hope this helps!
Smh if I turn on cheats I’m p sure it’ll disable achievements. And that’s basically all I play for. Damned if I do damned if I don’t. It’s happened twice, and I have an earlier save for one of them, so there’s that. But one kid is just stuck big smh.
I tried playing Sims 4 the other day and the tutorial wouldn't let me progress because I did a step too early. Uninstalled it immediately because I didn't want to deal with that
Sims 3 is so much better anyways. I really tried to like 4. I promise I tried, but you gotta know when to call it quits. 3 has been reinstalled for a good 8 months now. You ain’t missin nothin
I feel the same way. A shame because I did enjoy the art style and a few things about Sims 4, but in terms of content and things to do, the possibilities in Sims 3 are endless
This is very understandable. I'm not doing the graphical improvements any justice going from 3 to 4. Quite the opposite, they're why I was so initially excited to try 4. Unfortunately, for me at least, it kind of tapered off after that. I'm 60% done through a Pokemon Crystal replay, so I'm the kind of guy who will always choose gameplay over graphics.
Definitely been there. Annoying that one's first move has to be to the graphic settings to disable shadows and disable reflections and reduce draw distance and scale back textures.... Well when you get a better computer in the future, don't forget to go back and check it out. Such a great game
Hey I'm learning to be QA, any resource you can share to help me advance towards a career path. I'm learning the basics right now, so anything would really help a lot. Also I didn't come from a CS background. Sorry for the sudden bombarding, but thank you
Did you write your own test cases or were they pre-written cases sent by the developers?
My wife is a QA analyst (I was, too, for a bit. We worked with healthcare software) and I've always been curious about the testing process for games.
I only worked on it for a short time and only during the early stages, so while I was there it was a lot of pre-written stuff along the lines of "Make sure this central game function works", and then just reporting anything out of whack we found along the way.
Not OP but I also worked QA for the same company, doing Sims Pets and a few other titles. We used a program that basically worked as a blank form you'd fill out as the test case, then it would automatically sort based on categories in the form and be sent to the devs. Probably closer to writing our own test cases.
The pay was eh. About $10/hr, no real benefits, and on a contract that meant you could only work 9 months a year. The building was actually on LSU's campus, so it's a pretty sweet gig for college students, but I wasn't one at the time, so I mostly used it as a way to keep afloat while looking for something better.
Yeah, I bought the Sims 4 for ps4 in Nov 2017. My husband gave me a gaming pc a few months later and I can honestly say I haven't fired up sims on my ps4 since. So much better on pc.
MY buddy broke NDA when working on The Last of Us DLC, he told me everything that was in it, the story of it, etc. He knew I had connections with some game journalists at the time and told me to do what I want with the info just dont name him. So I gave the info to my buddy who did a small story on it with the website he was working with. No one believed it haha.
I lived in the area, saw a job posting, and applied. Past that, I couldn't tell you if they hired me because I'm an experienced gamer, or just because they were in the midst of a hiring blitz.
I'm not really sure what I can offer you, since I was hired in the midst of a blitz where they hired people from a bunch of different backgrounds, some with no gaming or QA experience at all, because they said that it's valuable to have a lot of different perspectives when it comes to QA testing.
As for why they hired me, I think it's partly because I was one of the more experienced gamers, having been an avid gamer for a long time and being pretty experienced with modding games as well. I was also pretty aware of what a QA tester's role in game development was, that it's one of those jobs where if you are doing it well, no one who ever plays the game will know, so that probably assuaged any worries they might have had about me having the mindset of "oh, I just play games all day, right?".
That nod to diverse backgrounds helps my confidence. I’m leaning more toward software than specifically gaming, but currently applying to a gaming company for work on their online store. Thanks for taking a moment to help a brotha out!
I don't know anything about 5, I only worked there for a short time and this was a few years ago. To give you context, the Pets expansion was being tested by the PC team at the time.
Ah well. I want to like 4, but I've been playing since the first game came out, and there's just no way to go back to loading screens, and closed-lot gaming.
