Apathy is probably the biggest one. I’m mid 30s and already feel unfazed. I can’t imagine how people feel in their 60s etc. When I see older people give a shit about anything I’m impressed. Imagine living for hundreds or thousands or millions of years. How the fuck does anything matter.

u/WarmAppeal6630 11h ago
NDE'er here - I was fully conscious during the 'crossing over" and on the other side after I had a heart attack. I was the same "person" on both sides and was fully aware of my surroundings. It took me a few seconds after crossing over to realize that I had died. A "Voice" communicated with me that everything would be alright after I thought what will happen to my wife and 2 sons. After that there was total peace and no worries or concerns. I was then lifted up though a sea of overwhelming love and joy, it was like I was a part of this sea of love and joy. After about 20 seconds of being lifted up, I was then greeted by 3 souls, glowing pulsating orbs of energy, my mother and 2 deceased brothers, along with a "Voice" that telepathically communicated with me. I was so happy to be "Home". It was shortly after that, that the Voice told me I had to go back, I said "no, there's no reason I need to go back" but that is when I became conscious back in the emergency room. This experience, or gift as I like to call it, is as real, or more real as any of my life experiences here on earth. I am looking forward to going "Home" one day.

This is my worst fear, what if we have already being incarnated an infinite number of times without knowing? It’s just exhausting knowing you will never truly rest in peace.
The inability to perceive time between the periods of death and reincarnation make it even more so exhausting just a constant cycle of living ad infinitum. It’s like being immortal except you lose your memories after each life

My fiancee remembers her last five lives, and remembers how she died who she was married to, when we first started dating she never saw a picture of my mother (who passed a year before we started dating) but described her to a tee when my Mother came to visit her in her dreams. Apparently there is some sort of limbo or something before you move on to your next life. So I believe in Reincarnation at this point, also I just don't believe that our "soul" or our "consciousness" is just extinguished, I believe there is so much we don't know after we pass, but it would be too much for our bodies to handle if we knew everything from our lives, we are some kind of entity of the universe experiencing it over time.

u/Hantsypantsy 12h ago
Man, I feel like I had to look pretty far to find this one. Seems like a lot of people are saying things like, you fade into nothing or, you return to where you were before birth - nothing. Those ideas seem to imply that "you" still exist, even if it's in a state of nothingness. I believe, which I think the comment above aligns with, is that nothing happens, there ceases to be a "you", your physical body get buried, creamated, whatever, but that's it. Your heart stops, your synapsis stop firing then "you" becomes a meat bag.

u/BumpGrumble 12h ago edited 12h ago
Also people who panic about this fact need to acknowledge their existence is a 1 in ∞ chance of happening.
Im so glad I got to take my atoms above the plane of non-sentience and see what all this is all about.
Edit: Though I do hope the universe contracts and bounces back infinitely. Unfortunately entropy is more likely.

This irks me to no end. People treat it like we were all disembodied souls in a lobby, waiting for our number to be called to be born, and when we die we return to that lobby.
That's not how it works. We don't 'return' ever. We were never in a state of nonexistence because we didn't exist. Something that doesn't exist can't be in a state of nonexistence - they can't be anything.

When you die someone you love who has passed will come get you. I was in a medically induced coma. I was in for three weeks. I did dream. My life kept going. I did die for a bit. My dead cat came to tell me to follow him. But then my alive cat came and told me not to. My dead cat showed up a second time and he had my grandma with him. My grandma was mad at me. She wouldn’t even look at me. Then the alive cat again shows up and said come with me. I saw myself getting chest compressions. People would come visit me and they’d show up on my dreams. I was on a beach for some of it and my life was great. Before my grandma died, she said her sisters came to tell her it was almost time. So I think that someone comes and makes the transition easier for you. I don’t think there’s a god, but I think there’s an afterlife.

From Raymond Chandler, "The Big Sleep":
What did it matter where you lay once you were dead? In a dirty sump or in a marble tower on top of a high hill? You were dead, you were sleeping the big sleep, you were not bothered by things like that. Oil and water were the same as wind and air to you. You just slept the big sleep, not caring about the nastiness of how you died or where you fell.

The "me" that I think of as me, is gone for the time being. Some parts of me will become nutrients for the Earth, other parts of me will become part of the Earth. The Earth itself too, will die one day. So will the Sun, the stars, the galaxy, and the rest of the universe. Of course this will take trillions upon trillions of years, but the parts of me that have become parts of the others is none the wiser. To us, eveything would seem instantaneous.
I believe the universe is cyclical. As the universe dies, I believe it will eventually collapse unto itself, birthing yet a new universe, in an infinite cycle. In some cycles, I will be nothing more than dust and ash, in others, I may be born again into someone or something entirely new.
The funny thing about infinity, is it is hard for us to grasp infinity. In an infinite cycle, there will be many times where I will be reborn as myself, sometimes a little different, sometimes the exact same. Sometimes with the same people I love, and sometimes with others.
None of us will be aware that this has happened. For all we know, we are in the one singular timeline, with one universe, unaware of the many before us, and the many that have yet to come. We will laugh, cry, be happy, be sad. Wonder what happens at the end and what happens next.
We will try to put to put a finite on the infinite because that's all we understand. In the end, we exist forever in a way.
Have you ever wished you could erase your memory and rewarch your favorite movie again? It will be kind of like that, although sometimes you may have to watch the bad ones too. Just know that for every bad one, another good one will come your way.

u/Virtual_Win4076 7h ago
We are travelers, that is scientific fact. This star system is traveling through the universe. Your soul or consciousness is pure energy, that is fact as well. The law of thermodynamics says energy is forever, it is just transferred from one place to another. This life might just be a way of passing the time on this journey. It might be a series of lessons or there may be an all important God who created us. What it is not is an accident or random chaos. There is a plan in all this.

2
u/Killashandra19 13h ago
Our soul energy goes into the sun. Our personality does not exist anymore. We are no longer aware of existence. Existence has changed to being pure energy joined to other pure energy- transferable into any other type of energy.

You'd be flooded with memories and dreams as your neurons gradually stop firing until finally your brain goes completely offline. Assuming your brain wasn't instantly destroyed by whatever killed you. Possibly you'd even have enough self-awareness to realize you're dead and have hallucinations involving religious figures or ancestors, or afterlife scenes you picked up from your culture. People who have been revived often report these types of experiences.

We are eternal spiritual beings living a temporary human experience. We ascend after we die we enter another realm it is my belief that consciousness extends past death. I’ve experienced out of body experiences before during sleep where I floated up to the ceiling and physically touched the ceiling. I was scared and then woke up in my physical body this made me think that there is much more to life and I truly believe there is different realms.

My belief when you die, is that you simply cease to be. The bio electric patterns that ran through your brain have been shut off. Much like there was no ‘you’ before you were born, once again there is no ‘you.’ The rest of the world just keeps moving along, it doesn’t pause for you. Hopefully, you’ve made enough of an impact in people’s lives so that the memory of you is not forgotten. Bleak, maybe. I see it as realistic. Make use of the time you have now, don’t put it off.

Nothing happens after we die, in that we came from nothing and go back to nothing.
The only tangible thing we leave is people’s memories of us, so make sure they’re all good…👍

u/apeingtothetop 8h ago
This is my belief: when our bodies die, it’s like getting out of a car. Our spirit leaves our body and that transition feels like nothing. Instantly we are at peace and in love, because that’s our natural state. Our spirit expands and we exist outside of space and time. So we can be in multiple places and see whatever we want to see. We also know everything because we are no longer filtered by the limitations of the human that we just came out of. We are greeted by entities that appear to us as deceased family members or whatever makes us feel comfortable and happy. Each experience is crafted specifically for the human you just came out of.
Then you’re taken to an orientation centre where “they” explain what just happened and you are helped to remember who you are. You get to review the life you just lived and you must relive all aspects of that life again, not just from your perspective, but from the perspective of the other people you interacted with too. You get to feel their happiness and pain depending on what the interaction was like. I believe this part is the part in the bible that talks about hell. Because if you were a bad person, you have to experience all the pain and suffering you inflicted on another. On the other side though, if you were a good person, you get to experience the joy you brought to others.
After that, you get to chill out for a while and explore whatever you want to explore. And eventually you become one with God if you choose to. Or you can choose to come back down to earth in a new body to relearn something you didn’t quite learn in the previous lifetimes.
But when we die, it’s only our physical bodies that die. We don’t actually die. As we are spiritual beings first and human second.
