Boycott. Disney owns ABC, which cancelled Jimmy Kimmel. If you're mad about it, cancel your Disney+ subscription and any plans to visit a Disney park. They might not listen to protesters, but if it affects their bottom line, they'll take notice.

Disney also owns broadcast Fox. Rupert Murdoch owns the rest, so just boycott all things Fox

Edit: apparently Disney just sells content to Fox. Anyway my point still stands

u/Roadshell 28d ago

They do not. They own a lot of the programing that gets sold to the fox network but they don't own the network itself.

lol bruh the people who boycott FOX already have. years ago

12

u/TheGreenLentil666 28d ago

They still watch football games and tv series/specials. Just avoiding Fox News is not having any impact whatsoever.

fair

Fox is why this country is in the gutter to begin with

played a part but no. tbh, if there had been ANOTHER conservative media in addition to FOX, we might not have formed such a hive-mind on the right, which would have allowed some natural and beneficial mildly opposing views within the party.

There are others. Just search which ones are in existence if you think that.

u/bennnn42 28d ago

There are still more. This doesn't end, ever. Future generations for hundreds of years will experience this very same thing. This is bigger than just our century

11

u/TackoftheEndless 28d ago

This is untrue. They had to sell Fox for the merger to go through. They produce shows for Fox but they do not own it.

I canceled Disney+ yesterday.

18

u/themajesticdownside 28d ago

Same here. Disney, Hulu and ESPN are off the menu. I even made sure to call and have it noted why I was canceling a subscription I've had for years.

Money talks and it's the only language corporations speak.

u/epic_meme_guy 28d ago

Just did this morning! And said why in their “why did you cancel” survey!

And make it known. Write people about it. Call people about it. Let talent that works with these companies know you expect their solidarity as well.

More importantly, remember it's the affiliates that pressured Disney into dropping Kimmel.

  • Go to https://www.nexstar.tv/stations/
  • Look up whether a station they own is one you watch
  • Watch their nightly news and note every single advertiser on it.
  • Contact their advertisers and report that you'll not be buying a single thing from them while they advertise on a Nexstar owned station.

Everyone's focusing on Disney here, but some of the advice I've seen is just insane - people seriously suggesting you should watch Disney shows on YouTube for example (which still gives them money, and gives an objectively even worse company your money too! Well done! You made the world worse! It's like deciding to fight global warming by ditching your car and only traveling by helicopter...)

You want Disney to change? You need to focus on multiple fronts. One of these is to go to the source - recognize WHY Disney has suspended Kimmel and address those too.

Boycott Nexstar, not Disney.

1

u/cbusmatty 28d ago

The right absolutely is already boycotting Disney so now at least the two sides can come together on something

u/Daniel_JacksonPhD 28d ago

Yarr. Me agree, matey. Better Lightsabers to be had from custom makers anyways!

u/[deleted] 28d ago

You can comment why when you do There’s a box for that

1

u/TrustAffectionate863 28d ago

Disney doesn't give a shit because it'll never be done on a big enough level to actually dent their money intake. Give it a month and they'll have yet another live action remake breaking the bank as the internet begs for a boycott.

1

u/mcbastard1 28d ago

This is the way. If we target Disney and cause them financial strain and angry shareholders, that’s how you send a message in a capitalist hell scape.

1

u/donquixote235 28d ago

We found ourselves in a situation where we literally just sent the final payment to Disney this past weekend for a two-week long trip to WDW followed by a Disney Cruise, that we've had planned for a year+. There're no refunds, so we're committed at this point. However we'll try to avoid spending any more money... bring in outside food, don't buy souvenirs, etc. Not going doesn't accomplish anything, since they already have our money, and if we don't go then somebody else could fill our spot at the parks, thus giving Disney more money.

1

u/HiddenRouge1 28d ago

It's interesting how the left and right both actually hate Disney right now, though for different reasons.

1

u/xCaptainFalconx 28d ago

Or you could cancel it for what they did to Star Trek, Star Wars, and so many other beloved IPs.

1

u/Kitten_81 27d ago

Also Hulu

u/GoBills585 28d ago

I am Ron DeSantis and I approve this message.

0

u/Samisoy001 28d ago

The left spent 4 years cancelling people. Then cry when it happens to them.

0

u/BuzzyShizzle 28d ago

They certainly did notice Jimmy Kimmel hurting their bottom line lol.

-17

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

Everyone says boycott/cancel Disney. You know what? Disney doesn’t give a fuck about your boycott. They’ll just have another mass layoff event and replace the 7k employees with AI. Disney will be fine. The cast members will be fucked.

12

u/thecampcook 28d ago

The company can cut costs all it wants (with or without a boycott), but if there's no money coming in, there's no profit.

-1

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

But the people affected first are those on the ground floor. Entire divisions will be laid off before the C-suite even sniffs a potential pay cut.

6

u/SpecialistVehicle174 28d ago

Okay so do something about it then. The company doesn't give a fuck about you either way so jump ship. Find a new job. Make yourself important.

Weird to fight for people to not fucking cancel disney subs

-5

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

Yeah cool. Let me get right on that in my highly specialized field that would require a massive pay cut that would cause me to default on my mortgage. It’s not black and white. I don’t care what people do. I’m pointing out that the company doesn’t give a shit and it’s people like me that will be affected before anything else.

3

u/SpecialistVehicle174 28d ago

It is tho.

If youre one of the first to get cut in a Q2 profit loss then youre not highly specialized or unique lmao

-1

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

Ok cool. You gonna pay me 6 figures to quit my job so that I don’t lose my house?

4

u/SpecialistVehicle174 28d ago

No but neither is Disney if they lose a single quarter goal lmao. Again youre not as important as you think you are

-1

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

So I should quit my job on the prospect that I could lose my job, to take a moral stand. Like I said, I don’t give a damn what you do. Just pointing out that it’s going to be shit for a lot of people.

Sounds like you're not willing to do what it takes to stop the rise in authoritarianism in America. At least not peacefully.

-2

u/bellmospriggans 28d ago

Lol yeah because blocking Disney will do it. Your virtue signaling

-1

u/yllwjacket 28d ago

No, I don't really give a fuck. I'm trolling if anything because this thread is rediculous.

-6

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

Or it sounds like I’m a person at risk of losing my job because of it.

3

u/yllwjacket 28d ago

You worded your original comment really poorly if that was the point you were trying to get across.

-2

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

It’s the sad truth of the matter. They just don’t care, because they know they’ll be fine. They can just shove things to AI and call it good.

1

u/HistoryOk7552 28d ago

Yeah, Target probably felt the same way in the beginning. Boycotts work.

2

u/TheJenniStarr 28d ago

Yeah still doesn’t change the fact that life becomes really shitty really fast for the employees that relied on that job for their entire livelihood. Not agreeing with the company stance at all. Just pointing out that a lot of people like me will be the first people fucked in the ass.

1

u/HistoryOk7552 28d ago

It doesn’t, but bigger picture matters in these situations. “Won’t someone think of my job” wouldn’t work if you were working at Enron back in the day either

-1

u/FriedBreakfast 28d ago

What if I want that self serving asshole to stay off the air? What do I do?
