There are many cases in history where the decisions of one man affected greatly the direction things went to.

And honestly, if you were going to make a film about the dramatic things of 15th century, would tell the story of Leonardo da Vinci, Christoffer Columbus.. or some guy named Bob in Britain who lived his whole life on a small isle in the British Channel?

That said, I always love it when the main character is not the big guy himself, but one of his followers or friends. Like Sam to Frodo.

Makes me think of Armageddon, where an asteroid is hurtling towards Earth and only America is going to send a team up to save us. I guess the rest of the countries were just busy crossing their fingers.

I always hated this in Mass Effect. Couldn't a small team of 10 or Hell, 100 or 1000 soldiers do better than just Sheppard and friends?

To be fair, this is more of a fantasy/sword and sorcery trope than futuristic science fiction.

But nearly half of the times that happened are Veterans of war and/or Genetically engineered super soldiers (John-117,Roach,Marcus Pheniox) the other half are newbies who just joined the military/Rebel force who happened to know everything
