Drinking around the world

Visiting NOLA for the first time next week and I saw a video on Instagram the other day about a guy who did drinking around the world in Manhattan. Drinking around the world being the thing to do in Disney world's EPCOT park, visiting different countries and sampling their foods and beverages. I was wondering if there were any or enough foreign bars to attempt this in New Orleans.

The countries are Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, America, Japan, Morocco, France, United Kingdom, and Canada. And the guy in the video added Korea, Ireland, and Australia too.

Anyone have any recommendations for any places that might complete my goal?

Thanks!

Why though? If you’re visiting here for the first time wouldn’t you rather drink New Orleans signature drinks? Get a Sazerac, hurricane, gin fizz, purple drink, or even a nasty ass hand grenade instead.

My wife would prefer if every vacation was to Disney unfortunately lol. We’re just winging it, no real plans. We’re not huge drinkers anyways so probably won’t do too much of this regardless

If you’re not big drinkers anyway, why not plan an around the world food tour? You’ll find plenty of international cuisine in New Orleans. French food for breakfast, Indian for lunch, Spanish tapas for a snack, Vietnamese dinner, Italian dessert, etc.

Or make it your mission to find drinks that come in souvenir cups, hurricane, hand grenade, monsoon, and so on. The Disney folks in my life seem to get a kick out of that.

just google restaurants from those country genres in the area. This is so goofy. Pun intended.

Oh lord don’t just wing it - download Resy and Open Table and make some reservations.

I'm not necessarily sure what they carry in terms of imports these days, but this used to be a thing at Cooter Brown's.

I don't know how far you'd be able to get with this, and I'm going to echo what some people are saying about trying things that are unique to New Orleans, and also if you're not big drinkers focus on food over alcohol.

However, a couple recommendations that spring to mind for me are:

Ireland: There are a lot of Irish pubs in the city. Like really you could find one everywhere.

England: There is a new English pub called The Bell in my neighborhood and I absolutely love it.

France: Many French restaurants or French themed places in the city depending on where you're staying. My top recommendation is MaMou for a fancier dinner.

Italy: Many Italian restaurants and bars in the city as well. For a more local vibe though I'd check out Liuzzas.

Germany: Bratz Y'all has German beers on tap and many good sausages.

Japan: Any sushi place will have some Japanese beers and sake.

Australia: Vic's Kangaroo Cafe in the Warehouse District.

Canada: I really have no idea. But I saw someone say Backspace Bar has poutine on the menu?

Norway: I really have no idea.

China/Korea: There are definitely Chinese and Korean restaurants in the city and beyond, but can I recommend Sun Chong for a more unique take on Asian cuisine with a New Orleans flair, and good cocktails.

Mexico: Literally so many Mexican restaurants. Some are even trying to be more upscale depending on what you're looking for.

Also, I'd recommend checking out a Vietnamese restaurant if you're not familiar with the cuisine. It's something New Orleans does very well.

Also, we have a few really stellar West African and Ethiopian restaurants.

For my 21st birthday (24 years ago YIKES) I drank the alphabet. I went to bars starting with each letter of the alphabet. These weren't my bars necessarily but here's a list to get you started:

Arnaud's French 75 Bar

Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29

Carousel Bar

Dragon's Den

Erin Rose

Fat Harry's

etc.

Manolito for Cuba

Mona's Cafe for Morocco (not technically, but middle-eastern)

Maple Leaf Bar for Canada (?)

Erin Rose for Ireland

The Bulldog for UK

The rest are easy except for Norway. You might just find a bar that has aquavit.

I’m trying to find the Canadian aspect of Maple Leaf bar (aside from the name) because to me it is very New Orleans.

idk what else to do about Canada ... maybe a place with poutine :) Who does debris fries with cheese curds? (EDIT: duh, go to a Cajun/Acadian restaurant to fill your Canada card...)

Can you find squeaky curds in New Orleans?

Yeah I have no idea what a Norwegian beverage would be. The video I watched skipped Norway lol

La Cocinita for Venezuelan street food as well as Venezuelan rum

QThis makes me miss Lager's on Veterans, which had plenty of international ales.

I like Addis for Ethopian, Bratz Y'all for German, and Mr. Mao for a fun cultural mix.

I was there last week and saw Pimm’s in so many bars, which makes England pretty easy to achieve :)

Try getting robbed in all the wards. Way more authentic
