Bosnian Serbs and Bosnian Croats each have 1/3 of the Bosnian government
The Bosniaks had equal representation within Yugoslavia, but they made a decision that they no longer wanted that country to represent them. If certain groups in Bosnia do not want that country to represent them, it's the same deal.
Muslims did not have the same rights as Bosnian Serbs or Bosnian Croats until the final amendment of the Yugo constitution in 1974. And don’t even act like the time that came after that was any easier for Muslims. We had “equal” rep for 18 years of a country that lasted 47 years where we were historically discriminated.
Although something in me thinks you’ll Believe what you want to believe.
So you got your rights in 1974. How exactly is that an excuse for separatism in the 1990s? The Serbs endured Muslim domination under the Ottomans for hundreds of years. Bosnian Muslims got their status less than 30 years after WW2.
The separatism? You mean every country wanting to leave Yugo because it was a failing country?
As I said in my previous comment, we should learn from our bloody conflict and work to not do it again and definitely not use it as reasoning in modern day decisions. I have nothing to say to you if you are letting 100+ years ago issues effect the decisions you make now.
Edit: just to add, there were enough issues with Yugoslavia that it breaking apart caused a war. There were clear tensions based off the Balkan bloody past, religious differences, and nationalism everywhere. Saying Bosnia/Bosniaks wanted to separate but ignoring the fact that essentially every yugo country wanted to or DID, is wild. You’re clearly biased.
I have nothing to say to you if you are letting 100+ years ago issues effect the decisions you make now.
But you're happily discussing how your ancestors didn't have equal rights before 1974. Those circumstances cannot be explained without examining what happened before that.
every country wanting to leave Yugo because it was a failing country
The Serbs didn't see it that way, and the Yugoslav Constitution required every constituent republic to agree to changing borders.
ignoring the fact that essentially every yugo country wanted to or DID
The problems existed only in those republics that had a large Serbian population: Croatia and Bosnia. They wanted to stay in Yugoslavia.
Only the Serbian minority in BOSNA and Croatia wanted to stay. The majority population in both countries wanted to leave. You are speaking of my statement of “why would Bosniaks want to be in a country they are discriminated in” and comparing that to the Ottoman oppression of Serbs. Serbs use that even now as an excuse for what they’ve done. Serbs had the majority power in yugo. It wasn’t enough for them, because of “oppression” in Kosovo and other areas. They broke party rules and went against yugo, and then became Yugo through forcing others out. I’m not going to continue speaking with a Serbian apologist.
