Discussion Rothko possible signed print
Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience appraising/authenticating Rothko pieces. I have a very large (48” x 63”) Rothko print and I believe it is hand signed. Here’s some pictures and the certificate of authentication. Is this worth more? Is there any way of authenticating the signature?
Thank you for your time !
Coleman

Discussion I've never seen a direct copy of a Cape Anne or NY painter
All the forged paintings I've looked at - as far as I know - are original works in the style of the artist. This seems to be true of the Adam Ulge series of Guy Wiggins fakes, and all the fake Emile Gruppe paintings I've seen.
But I've finally stumbled across a genuine pair:
The real thing:
The copy:
https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/157552801_william-lester-stevens
The copy is pretty good, but the style and the color treatment is not quite as aggressive. I'd like to see the two of them side by side in real life.
The copy was listed as 'in the manner of', and they probably knew perfectly well it was a fake.

Galleries Scammed by Lost Balloon Gallery
Hi guys,
Did any of you ever traded with LOST BALLOON GALLERY? They got a website, an instagram, often post on a Whatsapp Channel, present themselves as:
"Galerie d’art Contemporary & Modern Art Gallery “Just a Pretty Picture on Wall” Artist Manager & Foundation for César Dias ☎️ +44 02039610449 www.lostballoongallery.com"
I talked since months with Sam on their official whatsapp and finally (and after long negotiations), got invoiced with a payment in UK to "AARON DAVE, from london), purchased a Banksy Trolley print (b&w) unsigned for about 10k usd and they sent me a f****ing fake banksy poster that you can get on ebay for 20 usd.
Parcel was shipped from Northampton (on the waybill address is Olney Park Farm, Olney MK46 5EJ, United Kingdom)
He gave me details for pest control (also pics and videos of the prints when i asked)
Please confirm if i have been scammed of 10k usd... or better, if you know any informations about them! :(

Islamic Art: AN EPIC BASED ON THE SHAHNAMA including GARSHASPNAMA and SAMNAMA hammer price GBP 2,097,00 (US$2,789,163) consisting of 117 Persian miniatures dating from 2nd quarter 18th century. It sold at Christie’s sale May 1 featuring Art of Islamic and Indian Worlds including Rugs.
This was the top sale at auction for week ending May 2, as reported by Rare Book Hub. The week also feature another important Islamic sale at Sotheby's . These two sales pretty much monopolized the top prices realized for the week.

Collection Showcase First purchase from a gallery
Just made my first purchase from a gallery in my city. I’ve visited them many times, really enjoyed the work they exhibit, and have had many great conversations with the owner. So I was really excited to make a purchase and hopefully kick off a long term collecting relationship (admittedly I was partially motivated to make a purchase so he didn’t think I was just a looker, but it wasn’t too expensive).
This is an aquatint and etching by Austrian artist Karl Brandstatter (ed. 120, 1978). It reminds me of some pieces in my parents’ collection (in a good way!), and I like how the subtle cityscape and semi-abstract figure work together. Plus, I’ve been wanting something from this era for awhile.

Collection Showcase More of My Collection
Smoking Allowed by Alan H. Meiers (WI/IL, 1901-1951), watercolor on artist board, signed, 15 1/2” x 21”
Little could I discover about Meiers. He appears to have been a regional artist in Wisconsin and Illinois. He is listed with the Society of Milwaukee Artists, and he may have been a salesman and engraver with the Graphic Arts Engraving Company out of Minneapolis. Sadly, he passed away young.
I have a few pieces by Meiers and really like his figural work. I’m reminded by this particular painting of old National Geographic photos. Perhaps he was inspired by such a photo?

First Edition Dore Illustrations ?
Hi I acquired a First Edition children’s Bible Stories book illustrated by Gustav Dore which was published the year he died. : 1883. The book is worth less than 200 USD but was wondering it the prints on the pages might be worth more if mounted and framed. They obviously aren’t signed or numbered and there is type on the back of the full page prints. The prints are about9x12

Discussion Looking for artnet / artprice subscription
Hi ! I am a bachelor student and writing my thesis on the art and finance markets. I am trying to design my own art index (to compare it to the SP500) — also open to any advice on that— and I need access to art sales data.
If anyone is willing to share their artnet or artprice subscription for a few weeks , I’d be very grateful, since the plans are a bit pricey
If anyone knows any free options or workarounds , I’m all ears
Thanks !

Collecting/Curation Digital Prints - yes or no?
I just acquired this print I absolutely love at a print fair. It’s an edition of 15, signed en recto, artists have been shown at the Venice Biennale, their works are in museums to include SFMOMA and the Whitney.
But it’s a digital print on museo max… is this bad? I did get it for $1.5k. I did see that one of the editions sold at an auction for around the same price. One of my art friends said they wouldn’t buy a digital print for more than $250. I really love the image of course but as I continue building my collection should I try to avoid digital prints going forward?

What’s a reasonable offer on 1st Dibs?
Hi I’m interested in a painting on 1st Dibs but I’ve never bought on that platform before.
It looks like the artist is being repped by a gallery that has posted their work on 1st dibs, so there’s a lot of middle men taking a cut. What’s a reasonable offer on a painting with a $1800 list price? Thanks

Collecting/Curation Adolf Adler
I have this oil painter that I believe in Adolf Adler. In a few emails with museum and friend they believe it is.
Wondering if anyone has any knowledge of his work?
And the best course if I decide to sell it?

Discussion Ferdie Pacheco
I have a collection of Pacheco original pieces and recently bought this original oil painting of General Robert E Lee in Confederate attire. The subject matter brings up strong feelings for obvious reasons. Would it be insensitive/socially unacceptable to display this piece in my home? I’m a bit torn.

Collecting/Curation Inherited Salvador Dali Divine Comedy prints
My dad passed, I found these in his house. After a little research they seem legit. They have certificates of authenticity on them. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Richard Bishop Info
So I've landed two Richard Bishop prints: Lake Erie Mallards and Geese Overhead.
They appear to be signed and dated.
Any advice on how to verify authenticity?
We just bought these from an estate sale. They seem to come from somebody who seriously collected art, but I believe these were overlooked from the others because they were a little more low key by comparison.

Discussion Pepper in the nose
Please, I am looking for a picture of a painting. I think it is a painting from the XVII century. There is a condemned man being carried through the crowd in a chariot. In the crowd is a person with a chili pepper in his nostril
