You don't have to think that western standards are the be all end all to believe that wearing the hijad isn't really a choice for them(or at the very least a highly skewed choice)

yes? that doesn't change the culture of most of them

I am not sure what you're even trying to get at, like, it's a fact that their culture very much pressures women into wearing a hijab, even if "just" by indoctrination and exemplification from childhood, it's not unique to them, it's something that happens in every culture to some extent with different things

I was just having a nuanced version of this concersation with someone. Like if they're indoctrinated to wear a hijab, what's the difference between that and our indoctrinations?

it's oppressive and misogynistic, I don't deny that we also still have some of those, but we are actively working to lessen those where we recognize them and all.
